Continuing with Fig Goes Sig (and Food & Wine)
Brown Derby (lunch, 10/30/11) - Figment had a lot of fun trying to figure out the caricatures on the wall. He'd never been to the Brown Derby, so we decided to have a late lunch here and get the Fantasmic Dining package.
Appetizers
Bread and butter - more of the Hawaiian sea salt
Cobb Salad - Figment had to try the iconic Cobb salad! This is how it looked when it's brought to the table...
...And this is how it looks after it's tossed. It was pretty hard to tell what was what in the salad, except the avacados, after it was tossed. Figment liked the flavors, but wasn't to sure about the texture.
Lobster Bisque - it was okay, but Figment liked the one at Les Chefs better
Spring Rolls
Entree
Grilled Loch Duart Salmon
Duck Two Ways - Figment really likes duck and he liked this dish
Sterling Silver Pork Chop
Dessert
Warm seasonal Fruit Cobbler
Grapefruit Cake - Being another one of the Brown Derby's signature dishes, Figment had to try it. It had an interesting flavor; Figment still isn't sure if he liked it or not
Chocolate Three Ways - Chocolate!
Flying Fish - After watching Fantasmic, Figment and company headed over to Flying Fish
Appetizers
Crispy Maine Coast Jonah Crab Cake - Figment was very excited, two of his favorite apppetizers were on the menu: crab cakes and calamari. The crab cakes had a nice crispy outside and lots of crab on the inside
Calamari - Yum!
Shrimp Cocktai
Entree
Potato-wrapped Red Snapper - One of Flying Fish's signature dishes.
Potato-wrapped Red Snapper (Sauce on the side, spinich instead of leek fondue) - Figment tried this dish two ways: the traditional (previous picture) and with a few changes. He liked the fish and potato wrapping, but wasn't to fond of the sauce (he was glad it was on the side).
Oak-grilled Maine Diver Scallop - the scallops were really good and the risotto was really rich
Dessert
Caramelized Banana Napoleon
Spiced pear cake - looked really pretty, but this was probably Figment's least favorite dessert. The cake was pretty dense, but didn't have a lot of flavor (beside being bread-like).
On the Boardwalk - This was probably the most fun dessert Figment had. There was a popcorn mousse (surprisingly good), a cherry-limeade-cicle (very tart), mini-oreo-like cookie, and pound cake "fries"
