They could have put okw renovation pics in or construction photos of alauni or paddock pool. Actual THV pics. Sales stats. Etc. January 2011 rumors?
OKW photos would have been nice.
Aulani has been covered extensively in prior issues. This is probably the first issue in a year and a half with no mention of Aulani.
Paddock pool refurb starts this week so nothing to report yet.
THV got a cover story back in 2009.
Sales stats will never be disclosed in any meaningful manner. Disney isn't going to make any confidential information public because competitors would get wind.
They won't deal with rumors in an official company mag either.
I'm sure that Disney Files fills some official role for notifying members of program changes and such. Even in 2010, I doubt they can simply post items to the member website and claim that all members were properly notified.
I doubt the cost is a big issue for any one individual. DVC is so large now that just $.01 per point in dues translates into over $500,000 in revenue.
Personally I don't have any great love for Disney Files. I'll skim it and maybe read a couple of stories. But most isn't worth my time.
But truthfully I don't see much difference between Disney Files and the last few years of Vacation Magic. I pulled out a few VM issues dating back to 2004 and they are practically identical in format. Each of the issues I looked at had exactly 2 pages of perks info and 4 pages of DVC-specific material. The rest was just the same old generic Disney stuff.
The DVC material was a little bit more detailed back then. I saw stories on choirs scheduled to perform at resorts around the holidays, special programs at HHI and Vero, comments about storm damage, etc. Those sorts of updates seem to be less frequent these days.
On the other hand, it was rare that VM would do a cover story on an actual DVC resort while Disney Files almost always does that.
The biggest thing missing from this quarter's issue was an interesting cover story. Those I do look forward to reading. Beyond that, both incarnations of the mag have been lacking, IMO.
