Disney Fantasy problem?

Just got off of the Fantasy and will report that it was chaotic and dangerous this morning. I was called over to help a woman who had collapsed and there were people more concerned about the woman blocking their path to the exit. There were literally people stepping on this woman and not stopping. After getting her up, wiping blood and carrying her to the side did people stop and realize their stupid behavior. I also observed several adults pushing or kneeing children trying to get off of the boat instead of remaining patient and being good examples for the children. Having been on numerous cruises thru the years, I will say that I was greatly disappointed by the behavior of numerous passengers during the debarkation process. In the future, I would kindly advise fellow passengers to think about how actions affect more than just themselves. Remember this is Disney not professional wrestling or rugby. Thank you and happy sailing!

I will say that when we were just outside the Disney World gates just before the fireworks and people were wrangling to get a good view. One of my five year old daughters darted across a sidewalk to get to me (she was with my husband). It was totally her fault for darting in front of people. But, the result was that she was knocked down onto the pavement and at least four adults actually stepped over her rather than stopping to allow her to get up. It wasn't even that crowded - people could have easily gone around her or just stopped. My 6'1" former football player husband had to insert himself into the crowd and pick up our terrified child who was just frozen at that point. I was so disgusted. The people are very lucky that my calm natured husband was closer and got there first.

I can't believe Disney would DARE to inconvenience you or be off schedule by two hours during a Category 5 hurricane.

Being off schedule isn't what ohio is talking about, though.

I was trying to think of reasons they wouldn't have queue directing systems like ropes or chains.

Because DCL is allergic to ropes and chains. On our first cruise, after noticing problems caused by the lack of obvious line "holders" (like ropes or chains), I spoke with Christiaan about it. In my case it was a princess meet/greet that really UNobviously closed the stairs (or maybe it was princesses downstairs and Mickey upstairs?), but they had no signs, ropes, chains, or even CMs there to indicate it until you were right up at the stairs. It was silly. If you're not into meet/greets, you don't know they are there. If you are short, you can't see through crowds well and you have to go up to things to find out what's going on. And then it's just embarrassing to be turned away, when it wasn't needed in the first place if they used Disney's time-honored methods of making obvious lines.

if there weren't inconsiderate guests who don't believe that lines and ropes apply to them and their schedules.

It's also possible to be a considerate person and simply not see where things are starting. If you're short, you know that you can't always see what others see. And you don't always know what's going on when you enter an area, so having people (who know) stationed all around the area, to keep order and to keep people safe, is a good thing.

Do people complain when the fire department shows up at their home and they don't have time for pictures and autographs?

That's not what ohio was complaining about. They weren't complaining about the cruise ;they were complaining about the chaos happening once they were docked and everyone was there safe and sound. Seriously, Disney should have procedures for this. There's no need for them to be reinventing the wheel. This should be Procedure "H(urricane) S(afe) S(ound) P(ort)". Or something like that.

Fwiw; 10/27/12 after Sandy. Fantasy debark around noon to 1pm.

Yaaaaaaaghhhhhh.

I went in Feb once and found it to be too chilly. Is this variable?

Absolutely variable.

My cousins went on an early weekend in Feb 2012 and they were cold cold cold. It was cold in FL that day; we had been cold in Orlando, and when we drove to Daytona to see them on their disembarkation day I (who didn't have any long pants left) was turning blue!

We all went the same weekend the following Feb 2013 and it was something like 80 degrees on Castaway. Lovely lovely cruise.

Debarkation this morning was handled very poorly.

Glad to hear it wasn't just one person feeling that way.

Communication was almost non-existent and the CMs we encountered seemed to be operating on word of mouth.

Yikes. That's really unfortunate.

In 2012 it was grey and chilly the whole way (we live about 2 1/2 hours away from the port). We stayed inside the whole time. It was just too cold to use the pool or anything else.

Sounds like you were on the same cruise my cousins were on. They were on a 3 night on Dream. But like I said above, the following year it was lovely on that same weekend.

Controlling a crowd of a couple of thousand people, a good number of whom are angry, frustrated, and anxious, is next to impossible without a show of force (think law enforcement and a riot).

I have to strongly disagree with that. A great amount of the anger, frustration, and anxiety was caused by the lack of direction. Imagine of in the WDW parks you had attractions with no queues, and just an entrance just before the loading platform, and it was up to the guests to figure out how to organize themselves. What would you have? Well, several things: It would be unclear to new arrivals where they are supposed to go. As a result, multiple lines would probably form, with a great amount of unfairness as some would undoubtedly be shorter than others. Plus, a lot of people will take advantage of the situation and try to merge in at some point convenient for them, even though it's obvious they're cutting in front of others that have been waiting longer. Also, the lines of people would probably form in less than ideal directions, blocking off thoroughfares for people not even getting in the line. Gee, that sounds remarkably like the Fantasy disembarkation.
