Hi everyone :)

Welcome to my trip report! My parents, boyfriend and I all sailed on the November 4th-11th 2012 Disney Fantasy sailing on the Western Caribbean itinerary and I wanted to do this trip report awhile ago but never got around to it ... and I just found out not too long ago that I will be sailing on another fantasy cruise this october with my parents, boyfriend, and my sister and brother-in-law so I figured I better get started on this trip report so I can make another after that cruise!

Here's a little information to let you know more about us:

My boyfriend and I are 21. At the time of the cruise I had just turned 20. My parents had been wanting to go on another Disney cruise for awhile and I had always wanted to go to Mexico so when we found out that the Disney Fantasy had a western caribbean itinerary we were ready to book it! I have been on the Disney Wonder twice and the Disney Magic once so I was really excited to see what the Disney Fantasy had in store for us.

My boyfriend (shawn) and I have been dating for 4 years now and he had never been on a cruise so I was really excited to take him along on our vacation. In 2011 my older sister (epfootballcutie04 on the disboards) got married in Disney World and we all went to her wedding then got to play in the parks for a few days after and at that point Shawn hadn't even been to Disney World, let alone on an airplane so it was all new to him. He really enjoyed it and so I was really excited to make more disney memories with him and my parents.

Luckily I took notes for my trip report so I can still remember a lot of it, however I did lose a lot of my photos but I will try my best! Thanks for reading it and I hope you enjoy it! If any of you have any questions feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer!

Next Post:

Airport, Orlando, Pop Century, Downtown Disney

So our trip officially started when I got to wake up bright and early to finish packing and to get ready for the airport. I always seem to pack here and there up until the morning we leave for the airport and I never can find the reason ... I'm going to go ahead and say its cause I can never stop watching youtube videos of the disney cruises others have gone on and all the trip report reading I do and of course the thinking ahead to what I am going to do the second I arrive at the most magical place on earth!

After getting to the airport and going thru security I was able to fully get excited because I was only a few hours away from landing in Orlando! When we landed we made our way to the area where you can get in line to board the disney shuttles to take you to the hotels. We were staying at pop century and I remember the line being really long (it always seems to take longer the more excited you are!) but eventually we boarded the bus and we were off!

Once we got to Pop Century we checked in and found our room. I love staying at Pop Century and for a "value resort" I think it is really nice. We have stayed all over disney but since we were only staying one night before the cruise we didn't care where we stayed. Shawn was amazed when he saw all the giant decorations around the hotel and all the shadow box frame things around the lobby of old toys and such (the detail disney thinks of is incredible). We went to the cafeteria and grabbed some lunch and then headed off for downtown disney.

We had front row tickets to see the Cirque Du Soleil performance "La Nouba". It was my second time seeing the show but my parents and Shawns first time and it is truly an amazing experience every time. I highly suggest seeing it if you haven't already! Since I already have seen it it was fun being able to look at my parents and Shawn and see their jaws dropping at all the amazing stuff they can do.

After that we met up with one of my sisters old Disney College Program friends that still lives down there who became friends with my family (Her name is Corinne) and we walked around downtown disney. We went to the Art of Disney store and looked around and I had never been in there before but it is pretty cool in there. The art is all beautiful. And of course you can't go to downtown disney without going to Goofy's Candy Company! I can't believe all the things they can make with food in there. The Caramel apples are so perfect and cute I wouldn't even be able to eat it. We also stopped into the huge disney store and the christmas store and had Earl of Sandwich (yum!) for dinner. We didn't stay too long since we got to wake up early to head to the Ship!!!

Next Post: Pop Century Continued, Disney Cruise Line bus waiting, I SEE THE SHIP!!!! :)

We got on the cruise this day! After we woke up and got ready we headed to the cafeteria for some mickey waffles and other breakfast classics and headed to the store at Pop! for some last minute souvenir shopping. We had a bit of a wait for the disney cruise line bus so we just went and hung out by the pool for a bit and went to the arcade to take a look but we didn't play any of the games. We ended up waiting on a comfy bench for what seemed like forever (once again... we were too excited!!) when we ended up seeing some disney cruise line representatives come and get us all ready to board the busses.

Shawn was loving the fact that they had the little tv screens in the bus that play the movies to get you excited (as if we needed help!) for the cruise. After awhile we saw the ship!!!! We went thru the security and got to the counter to take our pictures and get the room keys and we were then headed thru the mickey ears!

"DISNEY FANTASY PLEASE WELCOME ABOARD THE BYRON-ZIEGELMAN FAMILY!"

yay! we were finally on the ship and what a beautiful ship it is!

we had boarded later than most other people and by the time we got on board our room was already ready for us so we stopped in and looked around. As we did we noticed that the power was out in the ship and so nothing was turning on and the elevators stopped working. Stairs it was to head over to cabanas for lunch! I was sad because I remembered cabanas-like lunch buffets from the other ships and when I got in line they had already started taking away the food so there wasn't much of a choice left. I ended up with some chicken strips and macaroni and cheese (so delicious) and some pineapple.

My mom and I headed over to the spa to book a pedicure for the morning of Grand Cayman to make sure we got a spot. After this we went to the lifeboat drill and the sail-a-way party. I had to get my sail-a-way drink of course (virgin, I wasn't 21 yet) and enjoy the party. My sister was able to see us set sail from the webcam which was exciting!

We ate at animator's palate this night for dinner. We had the rotation of AERAEER. Our head waiter was Depesh from South Africa, our server was Dewayne from Jamaica and our assistant server was Ricardo from Portugal. Dewayne and Ricardo were absolutely amazing. I love the chairs they use, and the adorable butter knives. It was the night where Crush talked to people but we weren't seated by a screen so we just watched. It was a cute show. There was a couple sitting to the table behind us and crush had him speak "whale speak" to his girlfriend which was hysterical but a "you had to be there" moment. Our whole section was laughing so hard.

Then it was time to go to the adult only area - the tube for match your mate. I was so excited that I was finally over 18 because all our other cruises I wasn't able to do the adult stuff and I wasn't a fan of the kid areas cause I was always at the high end of the age groups. Being able to go in the adult area was really nice. If you haven't gone to the match your mate show I highly suggest you go next time because it is so great. They have a couple that is recently married, a couple that has been married for a little bit longer than that and then a couple that has been married a long time. The couples became somewhat "famous" on our ship and everyone seemed to know them when they walked around.

It had been a long day so after that we headed back to our room. Our cleaning lady was Marissa from the Philippines and she was wonderful! She was so friendly and made such cute towel animals. I had requested she make a monkey and that night there was two towel animals, one of her own and a monkey :) We had a lot of fun getting to know her throughout the week.

Next post - day at sea, character meet and greets

I always look forward to sea days, and especially so since it was a new ship, because it gives me extra time to both explore the ship and to relax. I had gone into this vacation just wanting to relax but once I saw the navigators I knew that wasn't going to happen because there was so many fun activities planned!

We started with cabanas breakfast buffet. I'm not going to lie when I say that I was actually the most excited because they had Krispy Kreme donuts! Minnesota either doesn't sell them anymore or if they do they aren't located near me so I hadn't had one in about 4 or 5 years. Needless to say, I grabbed one every morning (it is a cruise after all...) Cabanas is themed so beautifully and is always so clean (as is the whole ship... always see the cast members cleaning!)

We then headed to the adult pool area to take a look around. I never actually swam in any of the pools but I did lay around the small wading pool area quite a bit. I don't know what drew me in to that area but I loved it and there never seemed to be anyone around that area at all. Shawn took this time to go on the aquaduck for his first time. I was nervous to go on it so I let him tell me all about it first.... and after hearing about it we made our way up the stairs to get in line ... and boy am I glad I did! The Aquaduck is amazing and so much fun.

We took it easy for awhile and took time to look around the ship and didn't really do much this day.

The show was Aladdin in the theatre this night... and -insert big shock here- i have never seen Aladdin before.... but I went to see the show and it was, in my opinion, pretty good! I got some laughs from it and it made me watch the movie when I got home from vacation!

Dinner was at enchanted garden, and it was formal night. And I have to be honest ... I'm a picky eater and thought for sure I wouldn't like this restaurant. I loved it. I thought it was beautiful and loved everything about it from the way it goes from day to night, to the decor, to even the wait staffs uniforms. It was perfect. I had the Heirloom Tomato soup and I had never tried tomato soup before but this was probably my favorite thing I had to eat on this cruise, at least in the main dining rooms. So good! I had my first mickey bar for dessert this cruise too!

We are sailing on the Fantasy May 31 but the Eastern itinerary.

Thank you! We are very much a Disney Family :thumbsup2
You are going to love the Fantasy! I've been on the eastern itinerary on the magic or wonder, i forgot which ship it was, and really enjoyed it but don't remember much since I was really young so I'm looking forward to going back in October! You'll have to do a trip report and let us all know what you think after you come home! :)

So the next day was Grand Cayman. I remember this day being pretty low key. We didn't plan any excursions for Grand Cayman because the only one that really caught our eye was the stingrays but I already had booked my Castaway Cay stingray excursion (more about that later!) and the thought of being with wild stingrays scared me a bit.

Our morning started with our daily breakfast trip to cabanas. I had gone with just my mom for breakfast because my dad and Shawn had other plans. My mom and I decided to sit outside, and to be honest I have no idea why we didn't eat breakfast outside more... the weather on our cruise was perfect! Then after we headed over to the spa to get our pedicures. My mom and I both just got the cheaper pedicures done, I don't remember what they're called but it was just the basic one, and we ended up loving it. The two ladies who did them were very friendly and we had a lot of fun talking to them. Our pedicures were ending right about the time that the ship was pulling into Grand Cayman and the view was really nice from the spa so it was pretty cool to see it all.

We got off the ship on the tender boats which was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. The wait wasn't all that long (maybe 15 minutes?) and I was surprised with how many people actually fit on those boats. After waiting a few minutes on the boats for everyone to get seated and to find a spot the boat took off and we only had a minute or two drive to land. While the tender boats were next to the fantasy you really got a good glimpse at just how huge the fantasy actually is!

We decided to grab some lunch at Margaritaville and I'm glad we did. It's a cool restaurant and really good food! I just had the burger and I had my first legal drink there. I wasn't sure about what the legal drinking age was there and when we asked the waitress her response was "I Don't know!" ... I have been told Mexico basically serves anyone whose head comes above the table top and I know this isn't Mexico but wow! Her answer surprised us all but I ended up with a delicious strawberry daiquiri so it's all good!

If you're looking for a restaurant to eat at in Grand Cayman I suggest Margaritaville, it's all open air (that I saw) and I believe they had a pool with a water slide and a bar attached but I could be wrong.

After eating we just walked around and did some minor shopping and headed back to the ship.

To be honest I wasn't really that fond of Grand Cayman. I know a lot of experiences we missed out on since we didn't do any excursions but I just felt like there wasn't much to do in the immediate area outside the ship without taking a taxi somewhere which sort of disappointed me. If I was to go to Grand Cayman again I would definitely do an excursion or just simply stay on the ship for this location... but that's just my opinion. I know a lot of people love it.

Heading back to the ship early was actually a good idea for us because the wait times for the aquaduck were 0! My parents, Shawn and I all got to go on it two times back to back with no waiting at all... it was amazing and so much fun! After that we just hung out around the pool area and relaxed and of course we had to go get some ice cream cones.

I love the ice cream cone station... I just wish that there was some toppings. I think on my next cruise I might get some fresh fruit from cabanas and bring it to the ice cream station!

The show this night was buckets and boards and I have no words that can describe how absolutely amazing this show was!!!! I'll be honest tho...going in I had no idea what to expect and it started a tad bit slow... I was at the point where I was wanting to leave 5-10 minutes into it... I thought it was just two guys drumming. Boy am I ever glad I decided to stay. They do so many different things and call people up from the audience to participate and at one point I was crying from laughing so hard... in fact, I have never laughed so hard in my entire life. These guys are incredible! If they are on your cruise I highly, highly!!! suggest you see them.. you won't regret it.

We also went to the tube and saw John Charles who did cabaret. He was also very funny and really good. I haven't heard of any one else seeing him... but if he is still on cruises I would suggest seeing him as well. The whole tube area was all laughing the entire time and he does song requests too and he gets really into it!

Side note: Before dinner some of the characters are out and about for pictures and meet and greet opportunities which I'm sure most or all of you are aware of. What was a surprise to me was that Peter Pan and Captain Hook were out but they were playing with each other... It's hard to explain without seeing it but Peter Pan would be on the level above Captain Hook in the main lobby and he had little kids help with "hitting" Captain Hook with a newspaper on a fishing line from the level above and doing all sorts of just silly things to him and it was very amusing to watch. He also hid behind curtains in the port holes and would jump out at Captain Hook as he walked by etc... so funny! I love that the characters all spend a lot of time with the children on the cruises since it isn't as large as the themeparks!

up next: costa maya, senor frogs, haggling prices has never been so fun

welcome to my trip report grumpy's wife and my sister lol! i'm trying to find more photos but my computer deleted a lot of them sadly. just means i have to take more in october ;)

This day was Costa Maya, Mexico!!!

This was the day I was looking forward to the most because it was actually considered Mexico and I had been wanting to go to Mexico for a very long time.

We woke up and got ready for breakfast at Cabanas and then watched the ship pull into port. When we got off the ship we rode the tram type of thing into the main area and went shopping and found Senor Frogs!

I was so excited to eat at senor frogs because I had heard so many good reviews about it and of course I wanted to grab a drink since I was finally legal... well at least in Mexico! We didn't want to eat too much food tho because it was free on the ship so we just grabbed some chips and salsa and I had another strawberry daiquiri. While we were waiting our server made us all name tags with very dirty phrases on them... that I won't mention since there may be young eyes reading this! They had us stand up on our chairs and dance to music and then they had the conga line for shots that my dad and shawn participated in... they had no idea it was for shots and all they said was who wanted to win a free tshirt... they were all for it.

Costa Maya is also where I learned the art of haggling prices. This was a lot of fun to me. I could have done better but I think I was pretty successful for my first time doing it. Some of the shops employees were pretty pushy on getting people to buy things (that's there job) but a little bit of it got annoying fast... I don't like feeling forced into shops or into buying anything. I learned to ignore it after a while.

We didn't stay very long at Costa Maya since we didn't have any excursions planned here and it was pretty hot so we decided to head back to the ship.

I have to admit that before I got to Costa Maya I had heard some bad reviews about how people didn't really care for Costa Maya that much and that there wasn't that much to do or that it wasn't that beautiful... but personally, I loved it! It was a toss up between Cozumel and Costa Maya for my favorite cruise location I've been to thus far. I loved everything about it and liked that it was fairly small and the locals were very friendly.

When we got back on the ship Shawn and I played some more mini golf and sat by the pool ... nothing too exciting this day but we were getting prepared for Cozumel the next day which we were all looking really forward to!

Cozumel at last! :)

As usual we started our morning with Cabanas breakfast... today was different than all the other days because it was the only day on our vacation we experienced bad weather. Basically the first 45 minutes we were there it was pouring rain and I mean pouring!! so we decided to hang back on the ship and try to see if it would stop raining at all. All of us went to the adult area to relax ... my parents found some comfy chairs to lay in and Shawn and I sat by the hot tub and soaked our legs for a bit. This was my only encounter with one of the hot tubs on the disney cruises and let me say... I must go in them on the Fantasy in October! They are wonderful and pretty roomy. Granted no one else was in them but I really enjoy that they have a glass bottom in them... kinda cool to look down.

When we finally got off the ship we did some shopping in the immediate area waiting for our excursion time... they were even more pushy in Cozumel than Costa Maya but once again we got to haggle some prices and got to take home some nice souvenirs. After some light shopping we headed back to the ship so we could meet up with our excursion group inside the tube. We ended up doing the dolphin encounter in chankanaab park.

After we made our way through the mall and to some taxis that were waiting for us we were on our way and arrived shortly at the park. It was cute ... there was some stores to grab some souvenirs at and then the entrance. We listened to some employees talk about our excursion and then split into groups depending on what we were doing... We just had the excursion that we stood on the platform and interacted with the dolphins.

Our dolphins name was Helen and she was 20 years old. I got to go first in our group and when they had us raise our hand so the dolphin is supposed to jump up and touch our hand with its nose she wasn't able to... she had to try about 3 different times and the trainers told me that she has been lazy so that was kind of funny to see.

Overall the excursion was cute. They take your photos but the packages are pretty expensive so if you are doing this excursion and want some photos I would make sure to save up some money for them ... I can't remember how much they were tho. This is a great excursion for the whole family to do. I like that the park admission is included in the price so after the excursion you are free to roam around the park. They have a nice little restaurant to eat at as well. We didn't stay too long but we did look around and grab something to eat. We headed back to the ship after this to lay out and get some ice cream but not before we got our picture taken with some lovely little guys!

Tonight was pirate night! My parents and Shawn dressed up however I wasn't really feeling up to it at this point. I had a little bit of sun burn and felt "blah" from all the sun so I just went in regular clothes.. Dinner was fun and everything was pirate related. This night I asked for a kids menu to mix things up and because I'm a picky eater.... and the funniest thing happened. When I received my menu and looked it over I saw something that basically meant Spaghetti something about marinara and mozzarella...... I was ok with that for dinner because I love spaghetti and it sounded good. Our waiter asked me if I'd like an adult portion so I said ok. He came back with I kid you not... 20 mozzarella sticks!!! Apparently the sun had gotten to me or I was just that tired because after I re-read the menu it was obviously mozzarella sticks.... what is someone supposed to do with 20+ mozzarella sticks! haha! I didn't even come anywhere near finishing all them but I got a good laugh.

We went to the pirate show and then headed over to the buffet afterwards. I wasn't hungry for anything but sat with everyone while they ate and had to head back early cause I wasn't feeling well..

Later that night I ended up getting sick and I have a feeling it was the mozzarella sticks catching up to me but luckily it wasn't sea sickness. I feel bad for anyone that is sick on a cruise with an upset stomach. It's definitely no fun!

next post: sea day!

Love the pictures of all the places you visited and the Margaritaville menu. I've always wondered what the prices were like at that place. I'm getting heartburn just reading about those mozzarella sticks.

Thank you! :goodvibes

Sadly, the photo of the mozz. sticks were after my family had already ate a bunch of them and there was still so many left haha.

This day was a sea day.

Instead of heading to cabanas for breakfast, my dad and Shawn ended up bringing me a few things because I still wasn't feeling that well from getting sick. We decided to take it easy for fear it was sea-sickness and decided to just play the midship detective game. I did the case of the missing puppies and Shawn did the muppets one. I loved playing the midship detective game since it was a great way to see some of the ship and it was good exercise too... being we took the stairs because the elevators were pretty slow, and usually the next artwork was just a level above us. :)

My mom, Shawn, and I went to the 50 movie quotes trivia in O'gills and we failed... by a lot. We were thinking it would be a lot easier than it was and Shawn is a huge movie fan but I think we got a total of about 8 or 9? It was fun to see people get really into the movie quotes and do well tho!

We also did the towel animal class. This was a lot of fun. I struggled a bit with some of the animals but they are very helpful when they are teaching it. They also give you a piece of paper that shows how to make a few of the animals. I would suggest this class to families. I know some of the younger kids might struggle a bit but it's definitely a fun family activity. On my next cruise I am going to try to take advantage of some more classes they offer on the ship... I know my mom did the napkin folding class and enjoyed it a lot.

We saw the believe show that night and to be honest I don't remember which show this was but I know that we all liked it. They do such an amazing job with all the theatre shows on the disney cruises I don't think I have seen one that I haven't liked.

After the show none of us really wanted a dining room experience for dinner, we just wanted something quick and easy ... something similar to the dinner in the top deck by the pool (hamburger, hot dog, pizza, etc) so we decided to go to Cabanas thinking it was just a buffet, quick service meal.... when we got to the entrance there was a cast member there asking us how many people we had and took us to a table to be seated. We had a server come over and put napkins on our laps and we were kind of confused... turns out that dinner is served at cabanas but it is the same as it is in the main dining rooms... no buffet. The servers are all training to be in the main dining rooms so that is how they get their experience. It was good service and quick ... but we were sad we missed out on another night with our wait staff.

When we got back to the room we did some minor packing which wasn't fun at all. I don't know of anyone who has ever wanted to get off the cruise!

NEXT UP: CASTAWAY CAY!!!!!!

Castaway Cay!!!

My family always looks forward to Castaway Cay because of how much fun it is and how beautiful it is! We like that it is privately owned by Disney too so no other ships are there.

We started our day in Cabanas and then headed towards the back of the ship where the mini golf is to watch the ship pull into Castaway Cay. The view up there was incredible so I highly suggest watching the ships pull into Castaway from that location. While we were waiting Shawn and I played some fooseball and I lost both games! I hadn't played fooseball in like 6 years at that point so it was a lot of fun.

I remember the line to get off the ship was pretty long .... to be honest I think it just seemed longer because we couldn't wait to get off the ship.

We were sad as we got off the ship because it had just been hit by hurricane sandy and so all the foliage was brown and didn't look like the beautiful castaway cay that I remembered. We still had a great time tho!

As we walked a bit we ran into Capt. Jack Sparrow and we had our picture taken with him. I was also sad that the Pirates of the Caribbean ship wasn't there anymore... it was so fun to see that sitting in the ocean on our previous trips to Castaway. We then took the tram ride to the family beach where we got our tubes and found some chairs. We usually get two tubes and share them throughout the day then when we're finished we either leave them for someone else or give them to people that were sitting next to us. I don't think we're going to get them this next time tho.

We didn't stay at the family beach too long because Shawn and I had a stingray excursion we had to leave for so we took the tram to the stingray area. The stingray excursion was pretty cool if you haven't done anything with stingrays before. They start you in a class and listen to them talk about them and the safety instructions and then you make your way to the water where they have these little stations set up. They give you some stingray food and a mickey head placemat type of thing that you set on the bottom of the station and put your hand on top of with the stingray food between your fingers. The stingrays are trained to find the mickey head and take the food. It's pretty cool because they trained them to go in the station one way and leave the other.

When it was my turn to feed the stingrays when he sucked the food in my finger he came back and put my finger in his/her mouth. It felt so weird and a little bit painful but mostly just felt slimy. After you feed them you are allowed some time to swim with them. Overall a cool experience. I would say this is a good family excursion and is much more tame than the Grand Cayman one that I've heard about. Disney also cuts their barbs so they can't sting anyone so if you're traveling with kids I would definitely let them do this one vs. the wild ones in Grand Cayman! :)

After the stingrays Shawn and I rented a boat from the boat rental beach. This was actually a lot of fun. It is a bit pricey depending on which one you get but I think next time we're going to try the aqua bikes ... I think they'd be a little easier to steer. I definitely recommend renting some kind of little boat/bike tho!

On our way back to the family beach we hit up some of the shops for our castaway cay souvenirs and made our way to the barbecue.

The castaway cay barbecue is delicious! They have a wide variety of things you can eat and it tastes so good after some time in the sun! I grabbed a hot dog, corn, and a chocolate chip cookie. I'm not sure if it's allowed but I have heard of people grabbing two cookies and going to the self serve ice cream station and making an ice cream sandwich. Sounds delicious ... doesn't it?

We went back to the family beach to relax and do some more swimming in the ocean and then made our way back to the ship. At this point we were starting to get sunburnt and wanted to freshen up. When we got to the ship Shawn and I did a few more rides on the aquaduck since there was no wait times.

Dinner tonight was really hard because we were getting ready to say our goodbyes to our waitstaff. We had a blast with our waitstaff. As I stated earlier ... if you're going on a disney cruise I highly recommend requesting DeWayne from Jamaica as your waiter. Our other waiter was Ricardo from Portugal but he is no longer with disney cruise line but he was my favorite!

Dinner was at Royal Palace and the napkins on our plates were supposed to look like peter pan's boat. I had made a comment saying that it was cute and that I enjoyed all their napkins they made for us and he offered to make us all our own napkins that we can take home! Now we have a souvenir napkin from Royal Palace to remember our awesome waitstaff with. :)

The adult activities this night was a magic show which was really good and the battle of the sexes. Both were really entertaining but it was really sad knowing it was the last adult activities before we headed home :(
