Did you mention the medical issue when requesting to be placed on the waitlist? Generally, if DCL is aware it's a medical issue they very accommodating.

One tip - being willing to share a table can increase your chances of upgrading once you are onboard. It seemed like everyone in front of us stuck with second dinner once they were told that the only tables left were likely shared tables.



Honestly - not in my experience. We have a pretty obvious and serious medical need on one cruise, I even sent a note from a physician, and I was told they tried, but there was nothing they could do since all the tables were taken. On the one hand, it was frustrating, since that doesn't make complete since because once you board, it's obvious some percentage of availability is held back.

On the other hand, I am sure they get requests for so many people stating a medical need it's really not practical to move everyone who needs it. For example, 20% of adults have GERD, which would be impossible to accommodate if 20% of all late diners wanted to move to early dining. That's why they tell us when we book what dining time we will have. If we can't live with that, we are agreeing to bear the risk. So I let accepted it was my choice to book knowing it was only late dining left, and was grateful to be upgraded once on board. I think your odds are rather high of getting upgraded after boarding, so long as you agree to share a table.

If that fails, you will have to eat at the pool if your mom needs to eat early.

I honestly wouldn't stress too much then. I think you are going to get early dining in my experience. So many people weren't willing to share (I could hear the conversations while waiting in line) that it weeded out most of the move requests. I was nice, mentioned the medical need, mentioned I was willing to share, and they moved us within about two hours of making the request. You will see the change in the app when it's made. Good luck!
