There must be several past and current Disney employess on here. I was wondering what sort of "perks" do you get with working for Disney. Not just Park Cast Members though...Corporate as well. My husband might have an opportunity coming up to work for Disney Corporate in Lake Buena Vista and wondering if we'll get discounts on tickets! hahaha.....you can tell i'm thinking like a Dis'er.

A worker can let a relative in the parks for free. Seriously, my aunt let me through security on my last visit. I forgot how often employees can get relatives in but I think they get a free visit every month or two. I may be wrong.

Forgot to add, she isn't a CM. Her department is reservations so if you pick up the phone and a woman named Betty answers, there's a very high chance that's my aunt!

It all depends on what kind of job he has. There are different types of Maingate Passes (the pass the CM gets to let friends and family in). I had a Blue Maingate Pass as an International CM in WS, that allowed me to let up to 3 people in 12 times a year. You have to work there about 3 months before you get a maingate pass though. You also get discounts, but I believe how much that is also depends on what position you have, like managers get more then just CMs. I had 20% discount in the parks, the dining discounts varied a bit if I remember correctly. There's also a website for CMs where they can book resorts and cruises with a discount, how much the discount is depends on what time of year it is. During christmas the park discounts gets higher, it was 50% from sometime in november to february next year (2008/2009). We also got our CM discount on already discounted merchandise, which was very cool :santa:

Thanks! I appreciate your input!

Right now this opportunity is just in the talking stages. He's talking with the person he'd be working for today i believe. But it would be for a corporate position in lake buena vista. But directly for Disney (not ESPN or any of the other companies Disney owns).

I've only heard good things about being employed by them. They would also offer a relocation package too. Since we'd be moving to Florida if it pans out.

As a Cast Member we do have access to all Disney parks worldwide except Tokyo Disney and water parks (complimentary free admission during off season though) and disneyquest(discount/complimentary tickets) Seasonal/College Program/International cast members are only allowed 6 entries for friends and family up to 3 people. The CM can get their maingate within two weeks of employment because when I joined the company I got mine in the mail within the two weeks. I used to work the main gate at MK :) but anyways Full Timers and Part timers are allowed 16 entries for family/friends. Now as for how many people we can get in depends on how many is in your family and your tenure with the company. They have blockout dates though usually during peak season and holidays. However we do get Complimentary tix that DO NOT have blockout dates so think of it like an annual pass with no restrictions. For Salaried/Corporate will receive a silver main gate pass which has black out dates but no limit on how many times one can use it in my understanding if I can remember from turnstiles training. Everything applies for Salaried/Corporate above with the perks. But anyways on to the discounts. The discount varies with your tenure with the company. For most its 20%. For those who been with the company for a long time its 35%. The holiday discount for merchandise changes every year. Last year it was 40% but there was a surprise last year was 50% in december but not this year unfortunately. We do have coupons for free popcorn and drinks during the holidays and dining. Last of all we help MAKE the magic for guests and I do it everyday I work. It is always the SMALL things that people will remember :) (if I forget anything any other CMs please add!) anyways thats the summary of what we do get!

When I worked for the company -- not in theme parks -- I got a "Silver Pass," that let me and three others in free, except for some blackout dates. After a few years, they gave my wife a Silver Pass as well, although we were still allowed only four total admissions at a time between the two passes (she does not and did not work for the company).

They also gave me a few passes twice a year that I could give away that were equivalent to single-day park-hoppers.

Also, 35 percent off in all Disney stores (in the parks and out) as well as 20 percent off DVC, and 20 percent off Disney dining but not all the time or in all locations. Also up to half off the hotels. Probably a few other things I can't recall.

It was a pretty good deal... but I'm glad I'm also don't work there anymore, even if it means I have to pay for stuff now.

Also, the only problem was I worked for a company that was fully owned by Disney but not called Disney. So inevitably, there would be a CM who would look at my ID and tell me I'm not entitled to a discount and not even try to look it up. I'd have to ask for a manager, in those cases.

. . . He's talking with the person he'd be working for today i believe . . . corporate position . . . I've only heard good things about being employed by them . . . also offer a relocation package . . .

1) First, the "park perks" are OK, but not great
. . . employees get into parks almost any time
. . . can bring in up to 3-guests a specific number of times
. . . a 20% discount on meals, up to 35% on purchases
. . . annual specials on food and purchases
2) The benefits are
. . . excellent and reasonably priced HMO hospitalization
. . . very expensive and only average non-HMO hospitalization
. . . normal dental plan
. . . normal life & disability programs
. . . poor-to-substandard retirement plan for newer employees
. . . just below average company relocation program
3) Employer
. . . remember, after a while, an office job at WDW is just a job
. . . good surroundings and nice work environment
. . . above-normal office politics, sometimes high-level
. . . many managers are well beyond their "Peter Principle"
. . . advancement based on "who you know"
. . . based upon job, the pay could be low
. . . especially compared to East or Northeast

NOTE: Above all, like any work place, it is what the individual employee
makes of it. If you can operate in a politically charged atmosphere, then
you should be fine.

If I remember correctly though (and if it hasn't changed) we didn't get the meal discount at TS restaurants at any time, it would depend on the restaurant and what time of day it was.

EDIT: And when we used our 20% discount on restaurant they would automatically add an 18% gratuity on the bill.

they usually get you one way or the other....especially with our holiday meal coupons. I gulped when I used my 50% off coupon at Crystal Palace for 4 adults and I can't imagine me paying full price tho!

Are you positive it's a corporate job? There are very few "corporate" jobs in Florida.

The Walt Disney Company has 5 different segments: Studio Entertainment, Media Networks, Interactive Media, Consumer Products, and Theme Parks and Resorts. Corporate is above ALL 5 of these areas.

If your DH is looking at a job in Florida, it's probably an administrative job within Theme Parks and Resorts.

The distinction is important because the discounts very greatly based on the segment. People who work for ESPN/ABC (Media Networks) receive different theme park discounts than those who actually work in the Theme Parks and Resorts Segment.

Many people confuse administrative (Backstage) jobs with corporate jobs, but in fact they are quite different.

Hmm...he doesn't have all the details. But it's for Disney Worldwide Services. Was just told in Lake Buena Vista. I guess we'll find out soon.

Disney Worldwide Services is actually a subsidiary, so I am not sure where it falls, or what discounts have been arranged for that group.

Sorry!

I do know that members of this group do attend the Theme Parks and Resorts Traditions (just had 4 in my class today), so my guess is that he would fall under our segment; but I would hate to give you incorrect information.

Thanks so much for all your information. It's very much appreciated.
