I read on another forum that as part of the proposed Western Beltway Project,Disney may build another resort that would be one step below the Value Resorts called an Economy Resort. While I think the Value Resorts are GREAT,I am just not sure Disney could build a resort with less amenities and less atmosphere that the Value Resorts have and still maintain the "Disney Experience".Does anyone have any opinions on this possible new resort?:)

I don't know how Disney could go any lower than value. Don't get me wrong, I liked the ASMo resort! Like you, I just don't think that they could make another branch of hotel lower on the rung than value and still keep all that great Disney hospitality and atmosphere. (And isn't that a fun part of going?)

The only thing they could eliminate would be the pool. They wouldn't eliminate the food court, I'm sure they make loads of money of the food. :confused3

I wouldn't think Disney would build anything new at that price point until they first completed Pop Century (which hasn't yet been deemed necessary, based on typical onsite occupancy).

But if they did, maybe it'd be like those - oh, I forget what they're called, but you get a bed cubby,,, they have 'em in some airports (I'm thinking Asia), and I've seen one once on Amazing Race...

kaytie - Capsule hotels. :)

I haven't heard about it, but I suppose they could eliminate all of the theming, restaurants, and shops. It's possible to make a bare-bones hotel on-property, but I admit I'd be surprised if they go as far as I'm thinking they'd have to in order to pull it off. lol

Dh read an article on miceage about this. It was sometime in the last couple of months on their website and as I recall, it was supposedly going in near DTD. I can't remember much of the details but do remember thinking something more stripped down than a value didn't sound too good!

They could make it like a prison camp and force you to work?

Hello...the plans have already been leaked on the Intraweb...

I can't believe no one has heard about this

Disney Magic Hostel

A room about the size of the Grand Cayon Concourse at the Contemporary will sleep over 1000 people. It will cost about $7 a night. I can't wait!

Disney Management might consider converting a portion of the unfinished Pop Century into suites, as they converted some of the All-Stars.

I don't care what they do! I just want them to do something. I hate looking across the lake and seeing all those naked buildings. :sad1:

I know this is unpopular but in the real world the WDW value's are economy. Let's face it all the resorts are overpriced and overvalued.

New ideas about how to increase revenues are constanly bubbling up inside WDW. They are, for the forseeable future, the cash maching for the entire company and have been given very stiff guidelines.

The idea of the "Economy" resort is still, as far as anyone can see, still an idea. The major cost for any hotel is labor - the proposal would remove most of the services that even the "Value" offer: baggage service, food service, groundskeeping, merchandise, transportation (probably) etc. It would essentially be a Motel 6, you get a room and nothing else. If you wanted anything as a guest, you'd be directed to the strip mall next door.

The idea, much like the concept behind the "Values", was to attract people staying off property and make them "Disney Guests". The big problem, however, was the Values basically serve as a way for frequent Disney guests to downsize their accomidations.

That is an evil that Disney will not stand.

It's also why the second half of Pop Century hasn't been built. It's not that people were flooding in from International Drive to stare at a the "Do The Funky Chicken" sign - it was that all you people how used to book at the Caribbean Beach or the Wilderness Lodge decided you could save lots of money.

Until Disney can figure out a way to keep all you people from spending less, it's likely the Pop Century and the 'EconoLogde' will remain just a rumor.

Mr. Iger: "How do we get more people on property?"

Leftover Eisner Yes-Man #1: "We can build a Motel 6 and slap some Disney decorations on it!"

Leftover Eisner Yes-Man #2: "You idiot! We already did that. Its called the All-Stars, er, Pop Century! Mr. Iger wants NEW ideas!"

Leftover Eisner Yes-Man #1: "Uh... Motel 5?"

Mr. Iger: "Hmmmm.... I like it. But see if we can knock it down to a 4.5."
