Ok so I know this is a ways out, but I want to start figuring plans out. We'll be heading to stay at the resorts on December 28th to January 2nd. Ive heard the gates close if it gets too crowded, so my question is how can we see the fireworks Nye and let the twins have a break from the crowd at some point that night. Also we want to go to dinner on different days through the week at akl but don't want to not get back in to the park we left. Help!

You get there before rope drop and you don't leave at all if you want to make sure you want to see the fireworks.

Typically mk closes mid morning, and will usually open back up late afternoon or early afternoon, but that's not guaranteed.

Have you thought about watching the fireworks from somewhere else? If you aren't set on being in the park for them you could go have dinner at California Grill or 'Ohana and watch from there. Maybe make sure your AKL dinners are scheduled for days other than when you're planning to be at MK--go on your AK or HS day instead. We aren't going at a super busy time of year like you are but I have my ADRs structured so that they're relatively close to the area we'll be in that day, to save on travel hassle from running all over the world.

If you're wanting to stay in the park to make sure you see the fireworks there, I'd say the PP is right, you probably want to get there by rope drop and stay there...but you could maybe to a TS meal or character meal (or even 2) and use that as a break from the crowds. Good luck and have fun! :)

Yes, rope drop is a must and take a mid day break and then I suggest watching the fireworks outside of the parks

The only day the parks usually close due to capacity during that time is NYE. MK will probably be closed by 10/11am. I would watch the fireworks from a resort beach that night. Every other day will be busy, but you should be fine leaving and reentering the parks.

That is one day I would definitely try my hardest to book a special fireworks cruise or the Wishes dessert party for sure.
