Ben Gets Dumped By Disney

benaffleck_grani_75x75.jpg

The curse of "Gigli" strikes again. A month before filming was slated to begin on the Ben Affleck comedy "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past," a nervous Disney has pulled the plug. The film was set to star the overexposed Oscar winner as a confirmed bachelor who's visited by visions of former loves at his younger brother's wedding (and no, Gwyneth wasn't co-starring). No word on why Disney got cold feet, although the Hollywood Reporter says that the film's large budget was a concern, as was "Affleck's tarnished image. The star has taken a beating in the tabloids and at the box office with the failure of his most recent film, 'Gigli.'" Don't cry for Ben, though. He signed a pay-or-play deal, which means the Mouse House will have to cough up his paycheck unless another studio steps in.

Good move for Disney. Affleck is a loser and Disney doesn't need him in their films.

BTW, the pic in your sig is gorgeous!!!!!!!

I agree with mommapoohbear! I no longer think Ben is Disney materieal. Too bad they still have to pay!

I don't think the tabloids can be relied on for anything. Even if Ben's image is tarnished in the tabloids, we should pay no heed to such gossip. I can't believe he gets paid whether or not he does the movie. How can that guy be a loser?

Wow, such harsh words about Mr. Affleck:( Why? In my personal experience working with him on Jersey Girl, he was nothing but nice and polite. What have your experiences been with him?

Gigli was worth it for me just to get to watch him for 2 hours!!!:earseek:
I agree about the tabloids..it has to be tough to live under a microscope.

:teeth: :teeth: :D

That's a good one. Don't you just love how we put down celebrities as if we actually know them personally or something. I have been guilty of this too. :D

Thanks pw2pp, I was hoping someone got the point. Being in the theater, (but not a celebrity), I see both sides. It concerns me when people make negative statements about people that they've never met before. The media is one sided (for their benefit-to sell stories). I just hope that people can put themselves in celebrities' positions sometimes. (Let's see- your local newspaper writes that you're having an affair and neglecting your kids, etc. Suddenly, all the parents in the school start talking to each other and saying what a horrible person you are, even though none of them have ever even spoken to you. And all of this came about because someone saw you hugging a man-your brother-who came to tell you that your mother was rushed to the hospital-so off you rush too-which makes you late to pick up your kids) All that-and now everyone has a different perception of you. Like I always tell my 7 year old- It you don't know about it, don't talk about it.

Thanks, and welcome to the DIS! :smooth:

Hey, goodstarr, lighten up.

Blondie didn't WRITE the story; she pasted it from another source.

It's well established now that part of being a celebrity is having the tabloids pry into every corner of your life. I'm sure Ben is well aware of that fact. Right or wrong, it comes with the territory, and celebs certainly use the media just as much as the media uses them. Publicity comes with public life. And there's that pesky First Amendment, with its freedom of the press . . .

Deb, my comments weren't for Blondie, actually, they were for the responses after her posting. And just because something is "well established" doesn't make it right (underage drinking, cheating on taxes, etc.) I realize that publicity comes with public life, but people should not base their entire opinion upon what the media has printed about someone. Poohbear and flrose were so passionate about statements about Mr. Affleck, but I still haven't seen them post about their personal experiences with him.

"Good" for you goodstarr. I agree, I think as good disney examples for our kids we need to teach them that talking about people in a negative fashion, whom we don't know, is just plain evil! I have been guilty of this myself in the past, and we need to always try and get away from that mentality. I think Ben is a great actor. How do we know what ANY actor/actress does in their private lives, unless like goodstarr said, we know them personally? Besides, what business is it our ours anyway! As long as thy give me my $$$$ worth in the box office, I'm all for them ( no matter what the tabliods claim)! They could all be horrible or very good people! YIKES..... hope no one judges me as harshly as we fans do our actors! YIKES AGAIN!!!

Great statement Tinkinme " hope no one judges me as harshly as we fans do our actors". That's what I was trying to get across. I have worked with quite a few actors and have been pleasantly surprised at the difference in how they really are as opposed to how the media portrays them (both good and bad). And you are absolutely right in setting an example for our children. That said, I will officially retire my soap box.

Well, regardless of public opinion-and I'm of the opinion that no publicity is bad publicity-maybe he was "dumped" bc of his limited range as an actor(my very humble opinion of course).(although I thought he was funny when he did SNL...or was that Matt?)

I agree! I don't like Ben's acting or personality at all. I don't have to meet him to decide that I don't like what I see. I keep picturing him sittling with JLo in the front row at that Red Sox game with a tv monitor in front of them. Why did they need that in the front row? My guess is so they could see when they were on camera.

Just because your sitting in the front row doesnt mean they are the best seats in the house, perhaps Mr. Affleck would like to hear the commentators, I highly doubt he is sitting there going" Look Jen there we are again dont we look great". HE is a die hard socks fan and my guess is that he didnt want to miss a thing. As for disney backing out of the deal it is there loss, sounds like a good film, I dont know where people get off judging others because of mistakes they made. It must be nice being so perfect.

WOW!!! You don't LIKE him??!!!! You must know him well!!!! Who cares IF or WHY he had a monitor in front of him at a game!! He paid for his seat just like the person sitting next to him. AMAZING how involved and judgemental we are towards others lives. It's funny and sad at the same time, actually! I'm with you goodstarr, I think I'm done here!!!!! "Have a magical day folks!!!"

Wow, this thread turned into quite the love fest, didn't it! ::yes::

Well, I don't read the tabloids, but I just wanted to comment that Howard Stern did a racy commentary on what Ben had been up to lately! Way to racy to discuss on here, lol! :o

I listen strictly for entertainment purposes, of course. It certainly makes for an interesting saga!

Blondie, I love your clipart too! :D

Wow. People very defensive of Ben Affleck. LOL Part of being a celebrity is dealing with public opinion. There are ways to stay out of the public eye. I can't stand Ben Affleck and I'm not ashamed to say it.:wave2: :wave2:
