Most cruiselines stopped doing bridge tours after 9/11. Some ships have a virtual tour onboard. I think DCL had one (at least on the Magic when we were on her) on the funnelvision screen.

They use to do bridge tours before the spas were redone on the classics in 2005/2006 and took over the space where the overlook was for the bridge. Bridge tours now are very rare and by invitation only.

I also heard they stopped doing bridge tours but I was lucky to get invited on my WBTA Cruise in September 2010 so they are possible. It was very interesting and the Captain let each of us push the famous horn. Don't asks me how I got invited (that was my first Disney cruise) as I was traveling with friends who where seasoned cruisers. My friend just told me to be at a certain place at a certain time and next thing I notice is we are being escorted on the bridge.

Good luck.

No idea what DCL policy is, but RCCL offers them if you book a suite, especially on their longer sailings; they offer them in a few languages. I think NCL still does them as well.

Wonder and Magic do virtual tours. After 9/11 unless you know someone you aren't getting in. :sad2:

There were bridge tours offered after 9/11 on the Magic because DH and I considered booking it in 2003. They were run just like the tastings and galley tours where you had to get a ticket at GS ASAP. You stood on a walkway that overlooked the bridge area. That space was incorporated in the spa expansion during drydock on the Magic, and then the Wonder, which stopped the bridge tours because there was no longer the observation area for guests.

My husband and I were given a bridge tour on our September 22, 2012 Fantasy cruise last year. The only difference was there was no picture taking allowed compared to when we were given a bridge tour on the Magic in October 2008.
For both tours, we requested one from the Concierge crew and they put our request in to the Captain of the ship.

In March, I went on a bridge tour on Celebrity. It was by invitation only. I was able to go by signing up for the "Meet & Mingle" on Cruise Critic.

We went on a bridge tour of the Magic in 2011, we received an invitation as a platinum amenity--but a bridge tour has never been offered since to us. I'm so glad we went, it was really cool. There was a group of about 12 on the tour including a couple who'd been on over 40 Disney cruises!

seems to be mixed answers to this one.:confused3

He is a Navy Vet and at MK last time he went I was able to sign him up for the Flag ceremony I was really cool and I am always looking for ways to do something for him and I know he would love a bridge tour. Looks like I will be camping out at GS once on board. At least I have a 11-11:30 PAT.

We've sailed concierge 3 times. Every time we've asked about a bridge tour. Hasn't happened yet. We'll keep asking and let them keep telling us no. One of these days we might get lucky.

Holland American offers tours of many backstage areas for $150, at the end they include all sorts of gifts.

Dcl did bridge tours on the Magic/Wonder until 05/06 when they extended the fitness centres.

Now DCL does them only sometimes and to seemingly random people… There is no guaranteed way to get a bridge tour. When DCL does do them, they usually let the guests blow the Mickey horn.

I am hoping being a navy vet who served on an aircraft carrier may be just what we need to get this tour pirate: I will even bring his dd214 like you have to bring for the flag ceremony at MK. I will also have him wear his pearl harbor shirt just to see.. ;)

at the whistle button on Magic - she got the honors departing CC - I cheat .... fellow Captains stick together

I hope your vet gets his tour. My dad is a 24 yr USN vet but he won't leave his house much anymore. The thought of him ever going on a cruise might as well be akin to him going to the moon. I only wish my boys could remember the go-getter their Grandpaw once was. The price paid for the sacrifices our service members make goes on over generations. I really do hope your vet gets to see that bridge. Such a little thing that would mean so much.

Additionally, my husband brought his TWIC card in the off-chance it would improve his chances. He works in refineries with tanker terminals. Basically its a maritime security thing....something with TSA & Homeland Security. Nope, even his security certification (same as all the port workers have) didn't boost his chances. LOL!

HAL recently changed this. They still offer the back areas tour (laundry, crew areas, kitchens, etc). But the bridge tour portion is only offered on port days, for $75.00.

When I did ask for a bridge tour on the Magic in 2008 and the Fantasy in 2012, both times my husband and I were in the Walt Disney suite. I don't know if that is the reason they said yes to the bridge tours or not or we were just lucky.
