DISNEY DREAMING! A Nov/Dec 2010 PTR *12/9 ~ Hello Again!

Help! Sorry this is a bit rambling.....

I realize the boards are pretty quiet lately but if anyone happens to be out there, I could use some advice from the experts. :worship:

Our day 7 park plans included a reservation at Kouzzina. Being a greek family, I really wanted to try this place out and from the reviews I'd heard it sounded delicious. Also, we've never been to the Boardwalk area so that ressie 'forced' us to finally get there.

I was out and about with Ariana and Demetri at a Playhouse Disney event at our local mall when Alex called me with a phone message from Disney reservations. For a second, I thought... upgrade! But then he went on to explain that our reservation for Kouzzina had been cancelled because the restaurant was being refurbished.

Say what?? Forty-nine days before we're leaving and I'm supposed to find something available for six people?? Ack! :scared1:

The message said to call another CM if I needed help with anything, so I've left her a message which I suppose she'll return tomorrow during regular hours, so I've yet to talk to them to find out if they're going to offer anything for the inconvience.

I've been on the dining reservation system trying to find an alternative dinner reservation in the Boardwalk area but I'm just not finding anything other than the signature places like Yachtsman Steakhouse at the Yacht Club resort (9:20pm - way late) or Flying Fish at the Boardwalk resort (7:35pm - OK) but those are two TS places, unless that can be the offer from them for the hassle? Think they'll do that? Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club resort (7:55pm -borderline late) is available too... Any thoughts on those three places? Oh and Cape May was available at a fairly late 8:35pm but we've been there twice before and not sure if we want to go there again....?

Our park for this day is MK so then I started looking for places within the monorail resorts and while the Wave at the Contemporary briefly intrigued me, all they had was lunch. :sad2: Wouldn't really fit with our plans. Kona is available but it's too late to fit in with our Boardwalk plans and we're going there later in the trip....

Looking within the MK, I was happy to find a 3:25pm spot available at Crystal Palace so while that's an early time for dinner I booked that as a backup. Liberty Tree was available but I'm just not sure we'd like it..... thoughts?

sorry to hear about your Kouzzina ADR! ... we have a reservation there on Dec 15th.. and it should be reopened then, fingers crossed.

I recommend the Captain's Grille at the YC... had a really nice meal there last year, it was quiet & we had a great server :thumbsup2

There's also the Big River Grille - they don't take reservations, walk-ups only, but has a nice menu; although it's a micro-brewery and bar at one end, we saw a lot of families there when we ate there.

We had a fabulous meal at Flying Fish. I would highly recommend it. Is there a "cheaper" TS meal that you could pay OOP for and substitute Flying Fish for?? :confused3

I saw your Help sign!

I'm betting that if you call that CM they will get you a ressie for wherever you want near the time you want. Since ADRs is just glorified call ahead seating. Captain's Grills is going to be closest to the cost of Kouzzina. Have you given any thought to anything at the Swan/Dolphin?

Worst case....you can eat at either Beaches & Cream or ESPN Club because they don't take ressies.

I think you're fine on the 15th. :thumbsup2 Good to hear about Captain's Grille. It's a bit late but would fit with our plans for the rest of the day.

I would really like to try Flying Fish but I'm not sure the oop route would sit well with George. Mr. Grumpy Gills would likely make an appearance.

That's really what I'm hoping for, that they'll do something like that to make up for it. I'm leaning heavily towards Flying Fish if that happens.

I did look into the Swan/Dolphin and in fact was very close to booking Garden Grove -- I was happy to find it was character dining and Ariana would adore Rafiki and Timon but they're not included in the Disney Dining Plan and I had to rule them out. :headache:

Sorry to hear that!!

I've eaten at Captains Grill 3 times in the last 2 years and we enjoy it! I've had both the steak and salmon and love both of them! We found it to be a great alternative to Yatchsman since that is 2 credits and CG is only 1.

If I recall, the desserts were excelent as well! They were never full when we've gone and there were always children in there so you won't have to worry about that! It's very laid back and we've always had good service.

I know on the Dis Podcast, they totally trashed it and I feard going there my first time but we've gone back twice since then and loved it every time!

Wow that's a bummer!!! Hmmm....I am hoping they offer you something good!! I have heard a lot of good things about Captain Cooke's so you might want to try there but that is only hearsay haven't been there myself!

Had a look through my photos from July trip... this is the key lime pie at the Captain's Grille!

Restaurant Board?

I checked the December cancelled ADRs thread, nothing so far but I'll keep checking.

Captain's Grille is really appealing, the only drawback is the later than I'd like ADR time. I'm glad to hear good things about it -- thanks!

I'll be disappointed if they don't offer anything. It was poor planning to close it down this late in the game.

I would book the ADR and you can always arrive early and see if they can seat you early. Like I said, I've been there 3 times and it has never been close to being even 1/2 full and I've gone at different times of the year..spring break, summer, and fall. I guess I've never gone in Nov/Dec but I can't see how it can be any worse than spring break or summer!

If you book at the Captain's Grille, tell the woman you booked just in case, but you would like an earlier time, with a young child, if they can accommodate you, that would be amazing.

For now I have the Crystal Palace early dinner ADR booked if we stay in MK and then head to the Boardwalk later... and I've booked the Captain's Grille later ADR if we decide to keep that instead.

I'm going to continue stalking the online reservation system and the December cancelled thread until the CM calls me back. :surfweb:

Good idea... will defo try the early check in like Megan said too.

Wow, that stinks about them cancelling your ADR. But on the bright side atleast you reminded me that I need to try getting our ADR. I am so on top of things. :rolleyes1

:rotfl: Glad I could help! Gotta catch up with your TR and PTR again :worried:.....

I also just wanna say that it stinks my ticker is on the fritz again. :badpc:

Bummer about the ADR! I was also thinking Dolphin or Swan but the DDP situation rules that out. I hope they offer you an ADR at a better time than you are finding when you finally talk to the CM! pixiedust:
