Good morning all,

Despite all the other "ifs and buts" at present, I am trying to get a bit of a straw poll if I can.

I paid the balance in full last weekend for a 7th August sailing.

This was done based upon the feedback I got, by calling DCL a couple of days prior to PIF due date, explaining to me that failure to pay the balance would cause the booking to be cancelled and therefore a loss of deposit (several hundred pounds). Having paid the balance there is now over a couple of thousand pounds at stake ...eek!

I admit I'm a little disappointed to discover this week, that some were offered to cancel and have received refunds for the same trip.

Of course, I am not disappointed for the travellers, but disappointed at the differing policy and service from DCL.

I guess it may depend on who you speak to and what time of day you call and possibly these decisions are being made on the basis of goodwill. But am interested to get a feel for the circumstances.

so the straw poll. N.B. I booked direct with DCL online.

Have you cancelled and had all your money back for the specific Disney Dream cruise due to sail on the 7th August?

Have you cancelled and lost your deposit?

If you had PIF, did you get a full refund when you cancelled?

As always, Thank you in advance.

P.S. I am of course aware of policies, t&c's etc etc, so please, this is not the thread to point these out, much appreciated.

You have the right to cancel your cruise and receive everything you had so far paid before your paid in full date. After the PIF date then there will be a percentage that is withheld by disney if you choose to cancel.
If you wanted to cancel the cruise with no penalty then you should have just asked them to cancel it for you before your PIF date.

But you probably have a delayed PIF date, right? My cruise was August the 31st and my PIF date went from June 2nd to July 2nd.

I'm unsure why you are disappointed people were able to cancel before the PIF date, when you also had that option?

H Harriet! I could be reading wrong (I haven't had my coffee yet)! I think the OP was upset because they were not told of that option.

the OP points out that they’re clued up on the policies and t&c’s etc etc, so they surely knew that was an option?

Yes, but he also says he's aware of the policies, so he knew it was an option. From what I'm reading, he asked, what happens if I do nothing and was given the correct answer (if you don't PIF on/before the PIF date, your cruise gets cancelled and you loose your deposit)

Thanks for clarifying! Having my coffee now!

Thanks. I am embarrassed to admit I have discovered this after PIF.

I did have a delayed PIF, until last weekend 8th June. I called DCL a couple of days prior and was told if I don't pay the balance I would lose my deposit. Not entirely the case I have discovered.

I never said I was disappointed for others, I am disappointed for myself that I did not fully understand the refund without penalty prior to PIF date.

Ah, it sounded like you were disappointed in DCL. It's really unfortunate you only learned the policy after PIF, but I think there might be a good chance they still cancel your cruise, and as of now, they have been refunding peoples deposits, so maybe not all is lost yet

I just called to cancel, so 2 weeks before delayed PIF, cruise is about 10 weeks away. And the lady on the phone said I could get a full refund of my downpayment. But what we decided to do is just to move it ahead as far as we could, and when the new cruises are released I can move it again.
