I received my Castaway Club card in the mail yesterday! I am now an official member of the club and very proud to be one!

With my card came an application for the Disney Visa card. According the application, you can earn Disney Dream Reward Dollars by using the Visa card. My question is this... What can the reward dollars be used for on the ship? Can you transfer them to your shipboard account before you sail? If you can, then it might be worth it to me to get the Visa card and start saving the reward dollars. Thanks for your help!

Yup! The rewards come in the form of a credit card. This card can have the points transferred to your shipboard account once on the ship.

Matter of fact, I just got my rewards card, with my dollars on it, and will be transferring money to it up until our trip!

Hope to have a few hundred dollars for "on board credit!"

Gotta love it!

I earned my reward dollars through the Visa credit card and then went online and ordered my reward dollars card at the Disney Visa site. The reward dollars card is similar any type of "gift card". It can be loaded when you earn additional reward dollars. I think I had something like $60 or $70 reward dollars on it before we sailed.

Once onboard I went to Guest Service, they swiped the Rewards Card and that amount was credited to my ship board account. Very easy!!! I kept the card because as stated above it can be reloaded when I have earned more reward dollars.

Great!!

The Disney Visa card sounds like a good deal especially since we will be cruising again next February. I will have to apply for the card immediately, so I can start saving Reward Dollars! Thanks for your quick responses!

Stupid question, but...if they swipe your Rewards card on board, does that mean that you have to use the entire amount that was on the card? We will probably have over $600 on ours before we cruise, but since we are only doing a 3 night cruise, we probably (well...hopefully) won't spend that much. Will the balance that isn't used remain on the card?

$600 on a reward card........your Visa bill would be $60,000.......I would hate to pay you bill :teeth:

Am I figuring that right???

You probably are, I don't remember what the percentage is that we get. We own two small businesses here in town...a convenience store & a liquor store. For the convenience store, he has a grocery distributor that comes to the store, but he finds that a lot of the merchandise is actually cheaper to purchase at Sam's Warehouse. So everything that he buys there, he puts on our Disney VISA card and then pays it off when the bill comes in. The Reward dollars have added up pretty quickly doing this.

Cool!!!! My parents own a business and they have been putting some of their purchases on my visa. I thought I was doing well with 120 reward $$$. Have a good time spending all that $$$$.

Hope :sunny:

How long does it take to receive your rewards card after ordering it? I wanted to wait a little longer, so I will have more reward ???. :D

I have not used mine on the ship yet, but at the hotel last year they were very careful to explain that once those points went on the hotel account I had to use them because they could not be returned to the card. They were so serious about it. I kind of laughed because it was only about $200 and we were staying 7 nights! Like we wouldn't spend that the first day!;) Anyway you could let the account grow over the week and then use some points to pay it off in the end, I would think.:D

Rather, then swiping the card when you come on the ship....just give them your 'regular' credit card - but on the last evening of the cruise - go and pay your balance with the 'reward' card?

I have seen people paying the last night with cash - so why not your rewards card?

That sounds like a good idea. I would hate to lose any of the reward dollars that we have accumulated.

mmmouse37 - just keep in mind that the rewards card also has an expiration date (it expires at the end of the year following issue, so, for example, I got mine in Nov - it expires 12/31/04) so I don't wan't to reload this card, but rather wait a bit and get a new one... Once I have moved my balance over to my onboard account, I will probably add it to my "souvenir" cards!

Carol36 - as I recall the card took about a month to arrive (although I believe they tell you to order earlier than that, and you may want to go on the safe side)...keep in mind that once you have the card in hand, you can transfer additional dollars to it on line, and those transfers are almost instantaneous! So, order your card now, and then add to it a few days before you leave!

I'm going to have $250. and I am psyched!:Pinkbounc

Good news - credits you earn but don't have loaded onto a card have a five year expiration date

Gee, I wish our Sams took Visa - would really increase our points - here they just take discover

Honestly, though, if you charge most things (I even have bills automatically paid by the card) it is pretty easy to rack up the credits.

Barbara

PS - the waiting until the end to charge your entire amount to the card might not work, there is an amount (I don't remember what it is - perhaps $200) that when the amount is reached, they automatically charge the card given...I doubt you would have the full balance still waiting to be paid (unless of course you charged nothing but tips)

Thanks Goofy Girl . I was planning to wait until a month before our cruise so we could get as many reward dollars as possible. Since I will be able to transfer $$$, then I will go ahead and order the card. :D
