Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Hello Fellow Cruisers!!!

I hope this finds everyone safe and warm! What a wild weather week this has been!! We have about 5" of the white menace on the ground and it is a flurry outside right now. schools been out the last 2 days. I am hoping we are just on a 2 hour delay tomorrow. I am "suppose" to work a 9 hour shift tomorrow, but with the kids home, I'd rather be home. I am sure they will need me tomorrow. I was thankful to be off today!!!

Steve and I were talking last night and came to the realization that 2011 will be his parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary. They were married July 22, 1961. Since we are going on this cruise just a month before, he thinks he'd like to ask them to go with us and share our rooms! It will be a little crowded, but we can do it! Then he called his brother and he is going to look in to it too. (We would ask his sister and her family, but as of right now, her DH is without a job and they are stretched to the max. If they get back on their feet, maybe they can join us too!) It's all in the "Maybe" stages right now, but we could be adding 2-11 people to our group! They all better decide soon though. In looking at rooms last night, it appears that the only thing available is a family stateroom with verandah. All inside staterooms are booked. I'll keep you posted as this unfolds!

It's great to see the new cruisers joining us and sad to see some leave. We are a good bit away from this cruise taking place, so I am sure we'll have families come and go! I can't wait to meet everyone in person though!! As I look outside, I can't get to Castaway Cay quick enough!!

Again, stay safe, stay warm and keep Dreaming!

We sailed on the Magic the week of Christmas and celebrated DH's parents' 50th wedding anniversary! It was very special for them since they have never been on a trip that nice and never on a cruise. They really enjoyed it. My SIL and her family went, too. We all had a good time. Hope it works out for your family!

I think that's awesome!! Hopefully, it works out. I can't believe the reports of the snows this year! The weather folks are telling us in Atlanta to brace for a couple inches starting on Friday. Hope everyone stays warm! :grouphug:

We are getting gorgeous fat flakes here in Dallas -- unusual for us! Normally we only get a few flakes and ice. Now, since we aren't use to it, it creates a lot of problems in driving, clearing roads, but right now, because it's not freezing yet it's beautiful to watch. (And yes, I know some of you have feet of it and are sick of it, so I hope you all have electricity and stay warm and safe!)

Any of you been on a celebrity cruise? We are going on one with my DH's college buddies this summer to celebrate most of them turning 50. (and no, I'm the "baby" of the bunch) We've done Royal four times and Disney five, but never Celebrity. The boards I can find for that cruise line aren't nearly as comprehensive as the DIS, so any help would be appreciated!

Update from another in the Dallas area -- we had over 8 inches at our house yesterday! This is really just unheard of for us here. There was school yesterday for the boys, but they are home today. They are a little bummed to be missing Valentine's parties, but certainly happy to have the day off.

:scared1: - 8 inches? Holy cow!! The snow is on the way to Atlanta too. It's supposed to start at around 9:00 a.m. DD's school is not yet closed, but they did a mass telephone call last night letting parents know that they needed to get arrangements made in case school was closed. My guess is that the schools will close school at around noon today. DD has already missed 7 days of school due to floods in September and snow last month, so I think the school is trying to stay open long enough to count as a full day so the students don't have to make today up too. I have to be at work until 6:30 tonight, and I'm afraid to even begin to think about what a nightmare my hour commute is going to be like. :scared1:

It is gorgeous here! We ended up with around 12 inches. Many trees are down, power lines etc. We lost TV early yesterday and it still isn't back on. Lost power for a little while this morning but it came back on. We have lots of huge trees on our acre and these huge clumps of snow are falling out of them now. The boys are loving it!

We have a winter wonderland here. I really do love it when it snows here. All the neighbors were out taking pictures and the kids were all throwing snowballs and trying to sled using laundry baskets! DD got out of school 1 hour early today. My students left at their normal time as it fit in the bus schedule as the others were closing a little early. Tomorrow will be messy as it all freezes into ice on the roads. Atlanta just doesn't have the equipment to handle much snow. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

the weatherman says we are going to have flurries off and on through Tuesday with accumalations of up to 8 more inches on top of the 4 we have out there already. this has been a very snowy winter for this area as well. Usually we get a snow, and within a day or 2, it melts and is gone for a while. This winter it has stayed cold and the fronts keep coming and coming....like a train...one right after the other. we are in the "Snowglobe" affect again this morning! I am so eager for spring to arrive!

Today is Colton's birthday! He turns 15!!! where has the time gone!? It seems like just yesterday I was bringing home my newborn son!! Planning on dinner out and going to see Avatar in 3D. (I really have no desire to see it, but whatever, it's his day, right?)

Stay warm and safe!!!!!

Hi all. We just changed our cruise from 6/7 to 6/12, mainly to be sure that school with be out by then, so add us to the list!

On this trip will be myself, Cody (30) (a female Cody...yes, I have a guy's name - don't even get me started!!). Also DH Ellis (34), DD Zoe (9 at time of cruise), and my Dmom (70 going on 50!). My Dsis, her hubby, DS (10), DD (3) are planning on coming too, but haven't booked yet :scared1: (they have a big WDW trip next month they have to get through first). We are all so excited - all of us 1st time cruisers!! :cool1:

The Bio's: We live in Northwest Arkansas - home of Tyson Chicken and Walmart. I am an analyst at Marshalltown Co. (we've got trowels). I am the one obsessed with the DIS boards and all things Disney! I graduated with my B.A. in Math a couple years ago (you teachers are saints - I figured out REALLY fast that I could not do what you all do everyday!!), and now its hubby's turn to finish school. He has been a graphic designer for over 10 years now, but is going back to finish his degree in Art. He does NOT do math!! Our daughter Zoe is a very outgoing and fun loving. She is already all of your kids' friend whether they like it or not! She loves the Wii, music (the Beatles, Janis Joplin, Queen are her fav's!), and drawing/painting. Dmom is fiesty and tough, and enjoys reading, spending time with her grandchildren, and loves Survivor, Jeopardy and American Idol! I don't think you'll catch her on stage on karaoke night though:rotfl:

...I forgot to post that we will be in cabin 7582. My daughter, Taylor would love to "meet" other kids going with us before the cruise.

Bairdbeth - looks like we are going to be neighbors! We have stateroom 7584! Sorry, no teens for Taylor to meet, but Zoe loves hanging out with older kids (I'll go ahead and apologize to Taylor now!!).

I've read through page 3, then realized that this thread has 20 pages! Yay, something to do for the next 16 months!!! I can't wait to get to know everyone before our Dream double dip!!! :woohoo:

Yeah, we have a DIS neighbor! Taylor says no problem. She likes younger kids as well as her own age and older. She doesn't have much of a choice as I have always dragged her with me to help in my classroom or help with events my students were invited to. Looking forward to being your Dream neighbor! :mickeyjum

Really I expect Zoe to be in the kids clubs a lot of the time (by choice - we'd never MAKE her stay). I've been showing her the pictures, or the renderings or whatever, and she says that that's where she'll be if we need her. I'm sure we'll have to drag her out of the oceaneers lab kicking and screaming just to get a little family time in!

Can't wait to meet you guys! Looks like a lot of deck 7 will be DISers!

Welcome to you, Ellis, and Zoe! I'll get you added to the first page.

I hope everyone is having a great start to this week. DD is off school for the week and, on a typical week, I would be hanging out with her Monday and Tuesday. However, I switched my days with my co-worker (who I job-share with) so I'm working Monday-Thursday, and then will be off Friday-Tuesday. Not too bad...provided I can make it through Thursday - LOL (we are gearing up for trial at work so things have been insane at my job). Also, Atlanta was supposed to receive another 1-3 inches of snow, but (THANKFULLY) the forecast changed this morning to rain this morning with cold temps. The snow that blanketed us on Friday is already outta here (can't say I'm too sad about that). Anyway, hope everyone has a great day. :goodvibes

welcome to more fellow cruisers! It's going to be so much fun!

We need to add folks to our group!!!!
Ed and Barb Cunningham....my inlaws....they will be staying in our cabins with us. They will be celebrating thier 50th wedding anniversary while on board. this will also be thier first ever cruise!
Gary, Jenny, Alexis (10?) and Brendie (8?) Cunningham...they are my BIL and his family. They will be in cabin 7124. It's thier 2nd Disney Cruise.
I will email them the link to this page, but I don't know if they will be active with it.

Living in a snowglobe again today. <sigh> I am really over the snow this year. I am thinking that we are going to have to start vacationing/cruising in February just to get out of this dolldrum! The lack of sunshine is so depressing! we had sun and blue skies yesterday morning and it was soooooo nice! Oh well....in time.....

well, we are off to run a few errands on this day off of work and school! Then to complete a few projects around the house! Steve's aunt is in town visiting friends for a few days, then she'll be here for a few days!

Dreaming of the Magic and Wonder of Castaway Cay......

I expect my DD9 (Janessa) and Zoe to be fast friends then because they sound like the same person. She's never met someone she wasn't friends with in 5 minutes and will also be in the kids club the majority of the time...on our trip this past June trying to get her to leave for dinner was almost impossible...and when she did she knew every kid on the boat it seemed

It's been a long time since I've been on the boards, looks like I have some catching up to do!

Hi Bill, good to see you and the bananas here :) I was disappointed we didn't get to meet in December...did you go to any of the DISmeets? I was only able to go the first day as I was travel director for my extended family that week and was pretty busy! Hopefully I will be able to put a face with the bananas this time around!!!

I'm excited to hear that there are other girls traveling who will be 9 on this trip...so will my DD! I had to really think hard about that since we haven't even reached our 8th birthday yet...makes this trip seem too far away! My DD makes friends quickly, too, so it sounds like the girls will have a great time. She also loves the clubs and will be so excited about seeing a new kids club on the Dream.

Cody, count me in as another "math person" onboard!!! I used to teach then worked as an educational consultant for a technology company, then an SAP trainer / course developer...in the past 5 years I have come full circle back to teaching, though I do it through my own private tutoring business. It's so rewarding to work with children one-on-one and see their confidence and abilities grow. Classroom teachers are so stretched nowadays trying to keep up with so much paperwork and documentation that really takes away from joy of actually being able to teach...I admire those who are doing it today and thank them everyday for their committment.

Just wondering if anyone has been to the American Girl store in Atlanta? We're going there next month for DD's birthday and would love to hear the scoop from someone who's been. She is SO excited about going and getting her second AG doll. She got her first one from Santa at Christmas. It's funny, my DD was never into dolls but for some reason became captivated by the AG dolls last summer and asked over and over for one for Christmas. I am happy to see that I still have a "little girl"...kids grow up way too fast I think. Maybe it's part of why I love Disney, even I can be a kid!!! I don't wanna grow up either - LOL.

Well, hello to everyone...have a good week.

Kimberly

I can imagine the heard of giggling, talkative, silly girls now! They will have a ball! I'm sure those kids club counselors know what they're in for, right!?!? :scared1:

I have not personally gone (DD is still a couple years away from getting her own AG doll) but our friends who have kids in the 7-9 range say that it's a wonderful experience for their girls. I don't think you can go wrong. :thumbsup2
