I'm going to be booking the Dream while on board the Wonder in March and had a question about the staterooms.

I'd need a room on the Dream that sleeps 5 and I was wondering if most category 4 rooms sleep 5 or is it minimal? Is there a list with staterooms that sleep 5?

Thanks for any help :).

On the Magic and Wonder, ALL cat 4 staterooms sleep 5. That is basically what defines them as cat 4. Sorry that I can't answer about the Dream.

I haven't seen a list of Cat 4 rooms, but have posted a list of Cat 8 rooms that sleep 5 in both the Cat 8 thread and the one asking about differences between Family and non-family rooms.

You can always non-scientifically do it yourself, by searching for cruises on the DCL website using 5 people and seeing what rooms come up. DCL won't show you a room that won't hold the number of people you are looking for so if it shows you a room number, you will know that it will sleep 5.

We are a family of 5 and always get 2 adjoining cabins. I have found it is more cost effective (in most cases) and we get a second bathroom. Not sure if that would work for you but just thought I would mention it.

Great idea :) I'll go try it out and see what locations look good :thumbsup2.

For a family of 5 it can often times be cheaper to book 2 category 11s, 10s, or 9s - than to book one room that fits 5. We have done this on our two cruises and saved lots of money. There are many connecting rooms on the dream and you can just keep the door open between the2 rooms.

Isn't there an age limit on that though, something like have to be over 12 or something?

I also looked into booking 2 rooms, but 1 room needs to have a verandah so we would either have to book two connecting verandahs (which isn't cheaper) or not be connecting (which we may do).

The extra space would be nice though if we book 2 rooms ;).

There must be a list, your TA should have one. It isn't listed on any of the deck plans that I've seen (maybe the newer version).

I can tell you from experience that not all Cat 4s sleep 5 people. We booked early in the fall and I had the same question. I think the deck plans weren't specific if all of them slept 5. I was told that based on the Magic/Wonder that they all would sleep 5. Well, about a month after booking I got a message that our stateroom number needs to change because it didn't have the murphy bed. It wasn't a big deal for us as we got another cabin in the same catagory. Our issue was that we wanted to have 2 lower beds as our kids are younger. I can tell you that cabin 8094 should sleep 5.

I have a category 4A booked for April 2011 on the Dream with five people in our cabin (10610) so I know that some 4A's fit five! We have three adults and two kids (my parents, me, my sister and my son).
Hope this helps!

You must book one adult in each cabin. And you will pay adult rates for the first 2 people in a cabin regardless of age. However, even paying adult rates for a child, it can still come out cheaper to book 2 cabins of a lower category than one cabin of a nicer category depending on your sailing dates. It is worth pricing out!

The advantage of booking 2 cabins vs. a single cabin that sleeps 5 is that you almost double the cabin space, and you DO double the bathroom and closet space! DCL doesn't care who SLEEPS where; they only care that you have and adult BOOKED in each room!

Thanks that helps a lot. It seems only 200 more to book two rooms... so now it is just down to .. is it worth it, the kids are still small enough... but .. more room is nice too. Decisions, decisions! This board really helps a lot though. I think I am obsessed with this. Once I get the cruise set in stone, then to plan the few days at WDW and resort. This is so much fun and the cruise is over a year away! :goodvibes

I talked to a lady through DCL, and she stated that not all the CAT4 rooms sleep 5.. There are a limited number... I have a Cat 4 room sleeping 5 booked on the Fantasy in June 2012.. We did not look at any other rooms because we wanted a Verandah..

We are a family of 5. We are going on the Dream in May. We have a cat 4 stateroom. It is a deluxe family room w verandah. Our room number is 8124. So I know they have rooms for 5 on cat 4 but I have no idea how many. I do know they fill up fast tho I got the last one for May. HTH

We love the extra space. My kids are small 7, 4, and 4. I leave the connecting door open and they sleep in the other room. The bathrooms are a must for us.

DCL does book my husband in one room and me in the other but once onboard we are always treated more like a suite than two rooms by the cabin attendant.

I wonder how the rooms don't sleep 5 then?

Do they not have the bunk bed from the ceiling?...or the pull down from the wall??

We are a family of 4 in a 4B (8594). Dd is REALLY looking forward to sleeping in the bunk.

I guess we wait and see as people share more info about the ship. pirate:

We are a family of 5 on the Dream May 12 cruise. We booked cat 4, Rm 10580, directly thru Disney, so it had better sleep 5. For our dates, booking 2 adjoining rooms was about $500 more than the single cat. 4. For 3 nights, we can sleep like sardines for all I care!

Also, for one day while we were pricing everything out, ALL the cabins that would allow 5 people were gone! Disney said a certain travel agency had reserved them all. But advised us that at midnight every night, all holds on rooms are released, so the next day we were able to get one. Needless to say that is exactly when we booked!

We'll have five in cabin #7646.

The majority of catagory 4s sleep 5 but some don't have the Murphy bed and thus only sleep 4.

Per the Disney site:

"Room Configuration: Queen-size bed, single convertible sofa, wall pull-down bed (in most) and upper berth pull-down bed, split bath with round tub and shower

So if is still a Cat 4 and doesn't have the Murphy bed... that leaves a ton of extra room in the cabin if you only have 4 people...Hmmm.
