Disney Dream 12/29/2011

You remember the crowds from 2008 don't ya? You will practically have the parks to yourself after the New Year.

I would not fly in from CA the day of your cruise. I don't know of any flight that will leave early enough to get you there, not to mention winter delays that are likely. We've done the red-eye also and Mike and I both were sleeping by noon! Wore us out and the kids were chomping at the bit to get to the parks! There are no direct flights from Sacramento so you have to change planes. Sleep is fitful, you might get a 3 hour stretch of sleep at best. A very long day and it took us elderly folks a bit a recover.:rotfl:

At any rate, the girls and I are slated to come in around the 16th or 17th of December. I don't know yet when Mike will fly in. We all will need to go straight to the airport after disembarking from the ship. The kids will miss that first day back to school.

Yeah, I'll have to come in at least a day early. I like the idea of staying the remainder of the week...maybe I'll be able to swing a resort stay so I don't have to deal with a rental car. For me, its too far out to plan. I have my eyes set on my Oct/Nov trip :goodvibes

Hi - we are on the cruise -- it is myself, my friend and her daughter who will be 14 (almost 15) at the time of the cruise. It is our 6th Disney cruise - and the first time we splurged for a suite - just to try it out (we were on the waiting list and they just called a few weeks ago). Glad to join you for the New Years celebration...

All you previous holiday cruisers will have to tell us what to expect on a holiday cruise that's different from the everyday ones.

For instance, are all the Christmas decorations still up for New Year's Eve?

The Christmas decorations are still up. During the 2008 Wonder NYE cruise, there was a balloon drop in the atrium at midnight. Waiters were walking around with trays of hors d'oeuvres and handing out/refilling free glasses of sparkling wine and sparkling apple cider. (Free drinks! Yay!) You can keep the DCL branded plastic champagne flutes if you want. There were small boxes of chocolates left in the staterooms that night. (About 6-8 chocolates per box. Not that I counted or anything. :)) Later on in the cruise, there was also a large lithograph left in the stateroom. NYE themed with Disney characters on it. Have fun getting that to fit in your luggage...

I haven't really thought about my travel dates until now. Since I don't have a kid in school, I'm thinking I might arrive a day before cruise or do a red eye (if I can find one) day of and then stay a few days after the cruise - or is this too risky?

No redeyes out of Sacramento to Orlando. Not even any redeyes out of SFO to MCO. You'd have to connect somewhere on the east coast. If flying out a day earlier is an option, I'd do that. (Even if flying out a day earlier isn't an option, I'd still do that. There are no flights from anywhere day of that would get you in before 4pm.)

How do you get multiple quotes in one reply?

That little button on the bottom right corner of the posts, right next to the big button that says "Quote" on it? The one with the two quotation marks? Click that on the posts you want to quote. It'll change to red. You can even select posts on multiple pages, if you want. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Post Reply" button.

Welcome! Congrats on getting a suite. Because it is still so early, we were able to get a verandah with my mom right across the hall from us in a virtual porthole room on deck 10. We can't wait to check out that virtual porthole.:)

Just read NCL is not charging the single supplement on their newest ship..perhaps the industry will follow suit!

Hi Kathryn,
Where did you read about not charging the single supplement?
I would love to go solo - but the extra cost was not worth it.
So "to save money", I take my family (two sons, three grandchildren).
I am not sure how that saves me anything?? :confused3

iT WILL BE GREAT to meet all of you on the NYE cruise 2011-1012 Disney Dream. Here's hoping it is as much fun as our past cruises with Disney. Also let's hope the weather and oil slick is not a problem. We can't wait to get going even though it's a little wait, I know it will be worth it. Just watching the little faces of grandchildren is a dream in itself. The fish extenders are lots of fun. We'll join in on this as well. See you all soon!!!!:goodvibes:yay:

Welcome aboard! My daughter will be 15 at cruise time. This will be our 5th cruise. Congrats on snagging a suite! You will enjoy the suite and the concierge service. We are booked in 2 connecting cat 10A's with the kids in one room and us in the other. I want to check out that virtual porthole and I wanted to see how it works for us space wise. My sister and niece are staying across the hall also.

Only a year and a half to go now!

Yea!!! party:

I can't wait for the Dream to sail so we can hear the reviews. We didn't get a verhandah this time so I am so looking forward to the room reports! I tried to pick a room that was not too close to the elevators or anything that I thought might be a bit noisy although I sleep through anything, lol.

Let's hope they get the gulf cleaned up by then! I'm up for fish extenders!

I'm up for the fish extenders too!!! They are so much fun for the kids. Actually I love the fun of it as well.:goodvibes

I am on deck 10 in one of those verandah rooms in the back. Hope boat motion is not an issue. Didn't bother me when I went on last cruise but then again we were in the middle. :rotfl:

Hi everyone
we just booked this cruise the other day on the Magic in the Baltic!
It was a great cruise...wonderful ports and so much fun.

There are three of us,
Me...denise
DH....Jimmy
DD.....Eleni who will be almost 22 at time of cruise.
It will be our 8th cruise...so close to platinum....

Hi to Linda and Mike....Linda we have not met but talked in a PM on the boards....I used to work with Mike over in Georgetown...I was the frame tech there....retired now! More time to cruise. DH still works over there from time to time....

Don't know if I will do FE...my FE got attacked by someone on this last cruise. They put blackberries in it and smashed them and stole some gifts/magnets. Ended up taking the FE down. Was really disappointing since it was my first FE exchange too.

I'm sure the board will get more active as it gets closer....Do we have a name yet? or a logo?

I'm so sorry to hear about your bad experience with the F/E. We have been of 5 Disney cruises and always participated with the F/Es and never had an issue! I think our first cruise we lost one door magnet, but honestly, that was a September cruise and all our other one's have been either Christmas or NYE cruises where everyone really decorates more and it is a lot of the same families. I would give it another try! I do think it is unusual for people to be distructive to the F/E and decorations.

Hi Denise! I'll have to tell Mike you guys are on this cruise. How neat is that!

I'm real sorry about your FE experience. I've never heard anything so rude. I've heard of a few things gone missing before or the entire FE being taken (zip tie your FE to your fish), but smashed blackberries is the first I've heard of someone putting food into a FE. Sounds like someone with too much free time. I'd certainly give it another try though as I think FE crimes are few. I've had a few magnets gone missing from my door. I put some real low for the small kids to play with when they walk by. A few of those walked away but that was fine. I had a big chunky foam Disney puzzle that I got from the dollar store and put magnets on the back of each piece.

My sister Susan is on this cruise also. She started this thread and I've informed her that her post will need to be the one that we will need to post our stuff on such as roll call, FE participants/sign ups, cruise meet date/time, activities etc. I've started working on a roll call. We don't have a name or a logo, so anyone with ideas, just post them and we'll see what we come up with.

Welcome!

We've book this cruise. We had to move our cruise from Christmas 2010 to 2011 due to some new additions to our family. We are adopting twin girls who would not have been "official" in time to cruise this Christmas. Looking forward to being on the new ship. We've done a double dip at Castaway in the past, but never done a cruise shorter than 7 nights.

Congrats on the adoption! My sister is on this cruise also with her young daughter whose adoption became official about a year ago. I know she has been waiting for the official documents to arrive. Fingers crossed for a speedy arrival of your final documents. How old are your girls?

This is going to be an awesome cruise! The first New Years on the Dream, double dipping in Castaway Cay...Great people on board! What more can you ask for????

Linda
