Disney Dream 12/29/2011

Just curious . . . we have been on several NYE Disney Cruises, and all of them have been on the Wonder, until now. We don't see many single travelers, but I do recall one at the Karaoke bar last year . . . He sang "Take a Load off Fanny" . . . . any chance it was you ? lol

Lord knows why I remember that . . . probably cause me and Theo, and a few of our dinner mates all sang along . . . and it was a lot of fun.

Just curious . . . . :)

This will be my third Disney cruise. Both of the others were 4 day cruises on the Wonder. I strangely only seem to cruise during holidays, the first was over Thanksgiving, the second was another New Year's Eve cruise.

Making my reservation now to hang with Paul and Theo -- you guys sound like way too much fun!!! So happy that you'll be on our cruise. And that you can fill us in on some of the special things to look forward to on this New Year's Eve cruise!

Are you in NYC? My hometown! Bring bagels.......

Hello fellow NYer. I am going with my son (11) so I am traveling as a solo adult. It would be fun to hang out with you two and others. Will be celebrating my son's 12 birthday on New Years Day. Staying at BLT and AKV prior to cruise. See ya there.

Bagels . . how can you even think of bagels when you are going on a cruise . . with all that GREAT food around?

Omg, we eat non stop . . . and we don't care! The donuts in the morning are good . . I heard they are actually from Krispy Kreme. We normally hit up the buffet for lunch, or if we are having a lazy day, we order room service for lunch . . the quesadilla salad is pretty good. And we go to our main dining assignment for dinner . . . and then we hit up one of the small buffets in the hall areas around 11pm . . . and of course, Theo loves to also somehow fit in some chicken tenders or pizza up by the pool . . . I don't know where he can fit all that food.

I would bring bagels . . . if I thought you really needed them lol . . but a cruise is the last place you need food hahaha.

Look forward to seeing you out and about . . .

Happy Early Birthday to your son . . and WOW . . you have a jam-packed vacation! We are going to be staying at AKV after our cruise . . we tend to enjoy the parks after cruising to help walk off all that BUTTA . . . lol.

I want to go on the water slide . but I am nervous . . (1) I don't like heights, and (2) I HATE HATE HATE that it goes out over the ocean . . I don't know if I will have the guts . . .can I get a little tipsy first?

For sure . . . come find us!! Especially on NYE . . . we will be up drinking, partying, dancing . . and shouting happy new years until the weeee hours :)

Welcome guys! Or maybe you should be welcoming us since you seem to be the NYE cruise experts? :thumbsup2 I too am a bit nervous about the slide (heights, falling overboard, confined spaces... yep those are my phobias). I'll certainly try it at least once though - if I can manage to parasail... I can try the slide. :goodvibes

I eat too much bad stuff as it is, no wonder I'm Pooh sized. However, I'm not a big meal type person, so I find the food on board to often be too much.

I do, however, LOVE my salmon and capers for breakfast, on a bagel with a schmear but the bagels on board are boring, lol.

I didn't mean for you really to bring bagels (don't want to even imagine how a bag of onion bagels would stink up the airplane, ack! but THANK YOU!), it's just that everyone who knows me, knows that whenever I go to NYC, there's an imperative side trip to Zaro's or H&H for real NYC bagels!

I'll go and be quiet now.....and dream.....about bagels......:cool1:

cmclaura,

I agree with you. Breakfast on the cruise tends to be a bit boring. Lots and lots of food . . but somehow it seems the Ocean has sucked all the flavor out of the breakfast foods. Even the bacon has no taste lol. I typically grab some fruit or a donut. My favorite eating fest is the main dinner. I will go bananas and eat until I bust.

Zaros . . . . now we're talking!! Two words: Challah Bread!! Omg, they have the BEST EVER.

Speaking of food . . . is it me, or has anyone else noticed a funny thing about the desserts on the Disney Cruises . . . they are kinda strange. It looks like cake, smells like cake . . . even taste like cake . but it feels odd in your mouth. And it's not just the cake . . it's almost ALL the desserts. The texture is very off. There is something going on in the desserts, for sure hahaha.

I have a personal feeling of what they are putting in the desserts . . or at least the reasoning of WHY they are putting it in the desserts . . . but none the less . . .

Anyone else find the desserts . . good, but a little bit strange?

OMG, yes! Do they still do the chocolate chunk cookies? I hold them responsible for at least 50 extra pounds.

You're right about the desserts on board -- they are a bit strange. Not so much the ones with dinner as there's a good range of choices, but at the buffets, I can't tell if it's supposed to be cake, mousse, or something else entirely so I usually don't bother. And I avoid chocolate fountains at all costs -- I LOVE chocolate but they put oil in those things and that just makes it icky to me. I'm not a big cake fan, so I tend to stick to fruit and cookies. And Mickey bars from room service:woohoo:, ha!

I was so disappointed in their floating island dessert -- ultra sweet and the meringue is hard as a rock. I make that (although we call it Pavlova, as I learned about it abroad) and mine is to die for.

I will give great kudos for the panna cotta in Palo, though. In my opinion, it puts the chocolate souffle to shame! Love that panna cotta!!! :worship:

cmclaura,

I will have to check on the cookies . . we normally only get bread there. Few years back, I worked at a bakery as a cake decorator, and I still enjoy baking and decorating most of our desserts . . . I try not to peek at bakery desserts, or I will end up buying.

My all time favorite dessert on the DC, is the creme brule. It is a safe bet - no funny texture going on there. Last NYE cruise, we were on the Wonder. It was a 7 day cruise and I had the Brule at least 5 nights lol.

How is Palo? In our many cruises, we have never booked at Palo, or any other restaurant on board. I feel . . . well . . cheap LOL! It's just that the main restaurants are fun, and I LOVE our waitstaff, and there is literally so much free food, that I can never seem to get up enough desire to book Palo . . . Would you recommend it though? The other thing, is that I don't usually travel with a suit/jacket . . cause Ughhhh. . . it's too much work. Bad enough my cosmetic bag is 120 pounds ha! :)

One last thing about the desserts . . especially at the buffet center. For anyone who sees all those desserts and can't make up their mind, I will help you. Stay away from the one that looks like Pecan Pie! I have no idea what it is, but it's not Pecan Pie. I got duped !!! I am still wondering what that thing was lol. It was more like something that looked exactly like Pecan Pie . .but was really an old dirty dish sponge.

On the other hand . . . DO grab some of the free apps up on deck at the NYE party. And of course, the champagne . . I am getting excited thinking about the champagne again . . .

My daughter LOVES the creme brulee, so much so that our wait staff tend to bring 2 or 3 of them at a time. One cruise, we had 5 in our fridge, never could eat them all!

We are very excited about cruising for New Year's Eve.....and we'll be celebrating my daughter's 18th birthday, too!

Creme Brulee! Makes me do the happy dance! :dance3: The other desserts just taste ordinary to me-nothing WOW about them.

I'll dance right along with you Wendy.....:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Denise, is the creme brulee the real reason you are cruising two times this year? :goodvibes See you in a week!!!

Wendy....we haven't met and yet you have me figured out.....:lmao:

if creme brulee is on the menu...then THAT is the only choice!!!

See you in less then a week now!!!:cool1:

I forgot to answer this question! :scared1:

Palo is WONDERFUL! We always do it. I think we like the brunch even more than the dinner, but the dinner is fantastic. The wait staff are consummate professionals but without that creepy French waiter feel. They make you feel special but are not condescending -- it's as though they're also having fun on this gastronomic adventure with you.

I think you can wear a nice dress shirt and maybe a tie and pass muster without needing a jacket. Perhaps someone else can confirm. My DH always brings a suit but he loves dressing up. Me, not so much. I bring one long dress that I wear for Palo, formal and semi-formal. And it's washable and crinkled fabric so it twists into a small space. This year my DH has pleaded with me to buy a new dress, lol, as I've worn this one to every wedding and formal event for the past 11 years. He says I look the same in all the photos! Hey, it's a dress I like and I got it for $40 on eBay! :rotfl2:

My daughter wants to bring her prom dress this time and I'm already dreading how much room that will take up in our luggage. I am a master at packing and traveling light. :cheer2:

Denise on our last cruise we found out on night one that if Creme Brulee' is on ANY menu that night (in any of the main dining rooms), you can order it. I had it almost every night. :thumbsup2

Nice.....every night!!! Guess I will be gaining weight on the cruise...:lmao: or I will have to do more laps on deck 4...(or whatever deck the walking/running deck is on on the Dream)

That deck is where we headed every night after dinner. Walking a few miles after dinner made me feel less guilty for eating desserts.
