Disney done differently, (BOG dining updates pages 202 and 203)

Back tracking to June 6th...

We just had to check out the Art of Animation resort!! After reading the Disney Food Blog, I ended up with the hugest craving for the surf and turf burger! It was raining. We don't need sunshine to eat, so off we went to enjoy dinner at Landscape's of Flavor.

We arrived at the security gate and a very nice cm ushered us into the resort with directions on where to park.

The parking lot was empty! I guess with only the Nemo section opened at the time, that would account for the empty parking lot.

As we walked inside, we were captivated by the artwork on the walls and ceiling.

We entered the food court. The overhead lights are just captivating.

This is the food report I posted on the AoA thread + pictures that I didn't post.

What an amazing resort!! I had promised a poster on here that I would report back on how dining went with our son who has ASD.

The resort is beautiful!! None of the pictures do it justice. The pictures are amazing, but in person the resort is that much more incredible!!

Back to dining with ASD. Pizza is what my son chose, of course. Almost every hot food is prepared for the individual as you wait. Plan on a minimum of a 5 to 10 minute wait person. Our wait was unusual. It took about 30 minutes from the time of order to the time the last one of us had his/her food. One of the cm dropped my dh's meatball sandwich on the floor. Instead of expiditing the food ahead of others waiting it was re-ordered and placed behind the other people there. My son's pizza was getting cold, so I paid for my Surf and Turf burger and ds's pizza.

I couldn't carry everything so dh helped us get to a table. And I ended up back to get the meatball sandwich. The line and pick up area was packed in that short time. I couldn't get through the people to the pick up area, so I went back in the order line and told Meagan who was taking orders that I was there to get my husband's meatball sandwich which was already ordered and I wanted to order a cheese and pesto bread. I told her twice the meatball was already ordered. She said ok, and did not communicate a single word of that to Rachel who was distributing the food.

When I got up to Rachel, she was very ticked off. Not just about my order, but that pizza's and such were being ordered and she didn't know if they were to be boxed or handed to the people and she was unable to get people's attention to ask them, she was rolling her eyes at people. She was also upset that people were telling her the number of what they were waiting for, like a #4 or #5. She said she didn't know the menu to please tell her what a #4 was, etc. She reprimanded me for not telling someone that I was waiting for an already made meatball sandwich. I told her that Meagan knew, because I informed her. So then she went and reprimanded Meagan about the wasted food, since there were now 2 meatball sandwiches, and she threw the one away. Matt the chef had suggested she get off the serving line and perhaps do something else like attend to the pizzas coming out of the oven. From here, Rachel took a deep breath and went back into character. She expidited the cheese and pesto bread, very nicely asked me if I wanted ceasar salad with the sandwich, and attended to guests.

My suggestion to Disney would be to get pagers for that particular station like they do at POFQ's one station. There was quite a bottleneck at the pick up area since pizza's take some time to bake, the pasta takes time to cook, etc. Several people were waiting at the pick up area with one or two items already cooked on their tray getting cold, waiting for a pizza. A pager would certainly help with the bottlenecking, but wouldn't help with the food orders being served separate as they were ready. Perhaps, a pager going off when the entire order at the station was ready might be in order? Communication between order and pick up needs to be improved too.

That was the bad, now on to the excellent...

I ordered the Surf and Turf burger. I was asked who my favorite character was. About 5 minutes later, a cm announced that Tinker Bell's food was ready!

Wow!!! By the time I got back to my Surf and Turf burger (about 30 minutes) it was luke warm, but I was truely immersed in flavor and texture. By far, this was THE BEST crab cake sandwich I have ever eaten!! I tasted the shrimp solo, and it was very crunchy and spicey. I tasted the crab cake separately and it was kind of plain tasting. Together in the sandwich the crab cake and shrimp created an explosion of yumminess!!! The bun totally complimented the flavor. Without a doubt, I will order this again!!

DH said his meatball sandwich was better than the meatball sandwich at POP. He said the flavor was much better.

20120606_202108.jpg

DS enjoyed his pizza, but he loved, loved, loved the cheese and pesto bread!!

20120606_202101.jpg

We will definately eat there again. I realize our experience was very unusual, and am sure it will be much better next time!

As for sound, my son did not need his ear phones like he does at Everything POP. We noticed the Mermaid section had a bit of an echo that the Lion King section did not.

Would the rain stop so we could explore the grounds?

Yummmm....
Sorry for posting so much! I really only intended to read and catch up - but this looks amazing. All of it! :)

Sorry that ordering/getting your food was a hassle though!

This is what I read in an all ears blog yesterday:
"Those who have been to Disney California Adventure quickly will realize that the Florida version is almost identical to The Little Mermaid -- Ariel's Undersea Adventure on the inside. But the queue here has been greatly enhanced and is much more interactive."

Not sure I can link to it here, but you can easily find it and read the whole blog by Kristin Ford posted yesterday.

With his GAC we enter a different way so I will definately check out the blog. Thanks!

So cool! Love the fireworks/parade pictures.
I've seen bits of parades - I think aside from a high school trip - I've only seen the Jammin Jungle Parade (we were trying to leave the park, it wasn't planned, but we got a great spot on the corner! ) and the ... hmm. I'm not sure what parade it was. The 3 o clock one, perhaps? :confused3 We almost missed our CRT reservation, because we couldn't get across the parade to the castle.. I was not a happy princess.
Never seen ANY fireworks. That's going to change this year, hopefully.

The Merida pictures were so cute, too! Sucks that the CM's disagreed on who/when to let in... but. Worse could have happened! At least you got in that round! :)

I hope you get to see them on your next trip!

I'm so thankful we got in to Merida when we did. He wouldn't have been able to tolerate the heat much longer, and the brother bears are no longer there. The entire cart has been removed.

Yummmm....

The food has always been very good there. We've eaten there a few times since and it's been hassle free. For the food allergies, they gave us a pager to let us know when it was ready.

Are you ready for some New Fantasyland pictures?

Let's see if Petals is right. Does suspense keep you checking the TR?

The costumes for the New Fantasyland are beautiful. I think we counted 6 different costumes, but didn't get pictures of each.

New Fantasyland 10/15/12

Yesterday, our original plan was to go to Epcot to meet friends for dinner at 6pm then see the last show of Air Supply. Those plans changed over the weekend when we heard that they were having dress rehearsals in the New Fantasyland!!

We arrived around 3pm and parked at Epcot. Hopped on a monorail to the TTC and transferred to the Magic Kingdom Express Monorail. The entrance was not busy and we got through bag check and the gate quickly!

This time there was no stopping for SMK cards first. Our first stop was the New Fantasyland area. We were greeted by two cm who advised us to park the stroller before entering the area. We showed Anakin's GAC and were allowed to take the medical stroller with us.

The park map did not tell us what was what back there. We were on our own to figure it out. We soon discovered the area blocked with plantars was Maurice's Cottage. It was blocked because they were filming a commercial. The next thing we passed was Be Our Guest Restaurant. The gate was locked denying access to guests. Cast Members were outside the gate with menus for guests to view. The next thing we passed was Gaston's Tavern. There is a cute water fountain outside with Gaston and LeFou. After this was the rest room. Then immediately beside the restroom was the M&G area for Gaston. Boy is he tall! After this was a gift shop then a popcorn cart. After this was the mermaid attraction!

We rode the mermaid attraction. Met Gaston. Had a LouFou's Brew. Rode Mermaid again. Checked out the BOG, and gawked at the film crew. THEN we went behind the Christmas Shoppe to get the SMK cards, before heading over to Epcot. We made it just in time to meet our friends and enjoy dinner. Anakin could not handle the noise level of the concert as we walked to the American Pavillion. Therefore, we didn't even attempt the concert. Our friends did, and they enjoyed it!

At this sign, we were greeted. This is where stroller parking for the area is.

We could not see Maurice's Cottage. It was blocked by camera crew and plants.

Be Our Guest was gated. However the walkway up to the gate was very interesting. It was a bit intimidating too, as gargoyles greeted us.

UGH!! I just spent a good amount of time on the next update, the mermaid attraction, when I got a blue screen error. Back to the drawing board...but this time writing it in word first.

Ooo it looks great!

Thanks. It is a beautiful area!!

It really does look phenomenal. After we left that area, the rest of the park seemed so plain.

It's been so exciting to see it's progress!

Mermaid attraction, up next.

Little Mermaid

As I mentioned earlier, the park maps did not have this area of the New Fantasyland. So before we left, I took this picture so I could remember the name of the attraction. But as fate would have it, the picture is too small to make out the letters. So I know it’s Under the Sea and Little Mermaid, but the in between escapes me. Maybe it’s a Journey? Maybe it’s an Adventure? I’m sure someone out there can jog my memory.

Anakin was very apprehensive to try anything new. Once we got in the building he began to panic that there was a hill. We found a cm and asked him. He assured Anakin there were no sudden drops, just a gentle slope. The cm was a genius in his choice of words!

Anakin does not ride POTC or HM because of the sudden drops on POTC and the sudden backwards tilt on HM. He also no longer rides Splash MT. Tammie, his ride with you was his last.

Once you get to the boarding area, the wheelchair line continues past it. Here the w/c line and the exit line come to a fork. The exit line stays to the left while the w/c line stays to the right. To board, the cm has to stop the exit traffic to the w/c party may enter to board. This causes a bottleneck at times. It also has the potential to add time for the w/c party’s wait, especially if it’s crowded. Our first time, we got right on after the cm let a group exit. Our second ride, we were second in line, and it added about a five minute wait.

The clam shells were slowed to let Anakin on the first time. The second ride, we tried it with not slowing. He was able to get off and on with assistance from one of us when it was at regular speed.

SPOILER ALERT
