Other than for fun, is there a reason to purchase these?

There is a collectors market for Disney Dollars. They all have the year stamped on them like real money and change the photos and stuff. This year's 50th Disneyland bills may be worth something in the future.

I just bought some last night at our DS. They were out of them for a long time. I think I am going to buy some more just to keep for souvinier. They are so cute and fun to look at!
