Disney Dollars

I'm sure it's been asked before but by the time I search it out, all you good people could have answered my question about 20 times over .

I know the ship is cashless but can Disney Dollars be used onboard? I thought it would be neat to give the kids DD to spend for their souveniers but don't want to bother if they can't be used in the gift shops onboard.

From what I've learned here, you cannot use the DDollars directly to pay for things in the shops, etc onboard. But you can use them to pay off your stateroom bill. We got a bunch for Christmas, and that's what we'll be using them for.

Our DD had many Disney Dollars to spend - and she did. We gave her charging priviledges, and after every purchase, she asked us for that amount of Disney Dollars from the safe, and she went down to guest services to "pay up"

We went to the disney store last week and tried to purchase DD and were told they were redesigning the Disney Dollar look and were out of them until sometime in May when the new dollar would come out. We were told by the store to call reservation and ask to be transfered to the mail order department. The mail order department offered to send us dollars with a $3 processing fee and Fed Ex charges if we needed them sooner than three weeks out. We are just going to wait until May since we don't cruise until June. I googled a DD clip art and gave it as a gift certificate IOU and will replace when the real thing is available.
