Disney Dollars

Hi. I am just beginning to plan for our first Disney World trip for next May and I had a couple of questions about Disney Dollars..... What denominations are they available in? Can they be used in any of the restaurants in the parks or resorts?
Any info would be appreciated, Thanks!

Hi!

They come in $1, $5 & $10 denominations. I find by buying Disney Dollars every week until my trip helps me save up spending money. I am lucky enough to have a Disney Store near me.

You can use Disney Dollars anywhere on Disney Property. Restaurants, Shops, Resorts, Pin carts even the Mobile Gas Station on Property accepts Disney Dollars!

I have not ever had a problem spending them.

Do you get change when using the disney dollar?

I'd like to buy them now for our trip in July just to sort of save some money on other things while we're there but I'm concerned, what if I only have "$40" Disney Dollars and the item I want is $35.99 do they give you change back?

YUP! You get change in good old US currency.

It's treated just like cash, just alot more colorful!

I would think the main advantage would be pre-payment/savings.

If you have a $20 bill you can spend it almost anywhere but if you start to buy Disney Dollars, it kind of limits where you can spend it there for you save it for Disney. ya know?

DISNEY DOLLARS are fantastic!!! I buy them weekly for our annual trips and I put them in the kids stockings at Christmas,their Easter baskets, they get them for their birthdays,any occasion .Really my children love to get them .We usually have at least 500 hundreds just from holidays and birthdays for our trip every year.One year our very first trip just from family my children had over 1,000 saved in disney dollars. They are fun and the kids love to use them their. And its their money from people and they are spending it. Helps out with the cost of your trip alot of times.

I believe that you can only buy them at the Disney Store.
The Tooth Fairy brings Disney Dollars to our house and Santa does too.

We use them as birthday gifts for our kids too.

I have given them for report cards, special events and for allowance. My kids LOVE getting them! Thay way they can save it and only spend it at Disney or the Disney Store.

We just changed our youngest DD's allowance into Disney Dollars for our upcoming trip. A couple years ago we went on vacation and she wanted everything -- of course darling dad can't say no to his princess.....The following year we told her she should save her allowance for vacation. It worked like a dream. The first day of vacation (we were on a cruise) she went into the shop and wanted allot. We told her she could buy as long as her allowance lasted -- once it was gone -- so was her shopping spree. By the end of the week, she still had money left over and we made one more trip to the shop on ship to buy a stuff cow she wanted. She even came home with money

Last year we did the same thing and let me tell you, it is so much easier to let them spend their own money and watch them make decisions as to what they really want.

DD has been stock piling any money she has gotten during the year (birthday, etc.). By the time we leave she will have about $200 to spend (between her allowance and extra money she has gathered during the year.

Note of caution. Save your reciepts. You can turn them in for cash at the Parks without one, but the Disney stores require a receipt. My wife got sick when we were to go feb. 2003 (she passed away in July '03). We had saved quite a bit in Disney Dollars and it was a real hassle turning them back to cash at my local Disney Store. They at first only wanted to give me store credit. I would also check with the manager of the store you buy them at about the return policy on them. Hopefully you won't need to exchange them, but believe me it can happen.

I only have about $300 in disney cash at the moment is there a place in disney you can exchange them for cash if you have extra by the end of the trip? I figured I would use up the disney cash first before I start using real money.

just needed to add that the Disney Store just changed its return policy on May 2nd.... Disney Dollars are now non-refundable

I called and was told the samething. No refund on Disney Dollars at all.I decided not to buy anymore until closer to our trip just incase something happens. April

I have a few $1 Disney Dollars with Mickey Mouse with th e 45years "logo" on it. Do you think these will be "worth" anything? Should I put them in a closet for my grandkids (don't have any now) to find someday after I am long gone?

As a scrapbooker and saver of all things, I say save them ... or make a photo scrapbook with your photos and include the Disney dollars (use photo corners to attach the money to the page).
