Hi - my in-laws gave a nice gift for my b-day of Disney Dollars to use on our trip to WDW. Can I use these to pay for character meals? Thanks!

You can use Disney Dollars just like real US currency at WDW for anything (except probably to feed into vending machines! ;) )

Yes!! Disney Dollars can be used anywhere at WDW. Have a great trip! :)

Disney Dollars are great gifts. My DH and I get them for all occassions when the family cannot think of anything else. I prefer them as you can never have enought spending money.

I give them as gifts thorughout the year to my son, niece and nephew so that they have their own spedning money when we get to Disney to use any way they want to.
I started this about 5 years ago when my son asked for something in every store or stand we passed. Now, when he spends all his Disney Dollars, no more souveniers! It works great!

Have a wonderful trip!

I am new to this, first time poster. :D

A couple questions about Disney Dollars.

Can you buy and/or spend them at the Disney Store?

Can you cash them in for cash if you do not spend them all at any of the parks or at the Disney Store?

Can you buy them on your credit card (Disney Visa, Frequent Flier card, etc.) at the parks, or Disney store? Or do you have to pay cash?

Do they expire?

Thanks,
Emmo

I'll try to answer some of your questions:

You can buy Disney Dollars (DD) at the Disney Store. Not sure about in the parks....

I don't think that you can "cash" them in. I know that when we were in WDW in May, we used them to buy food and if there was any change leftover, we got the change in cash.

We have purchased them at the Disney Store with a Visa debit card before. I have read somewhere that you can not purchase them online because they are considered "money" and Disney doesn't want the responsibility of sending "money" thorugh the mail.

To my knowledge, DDs do not expire.

If you need additional information, check these boards through the search function (if it is enabled), and you can always call your local Disney store with questions.

Hope that helps and again, welcome to the DISboards! :D

I can answer your questions:

You must save your receipt, and then if you want to return them for a refund, you can do so.

Can you buy them on your credit card (Disney Visa, Frequent Flier card, etc.) at the parks, or Disney store? Or do you have to pay cash?
At the Disney Store, you can put them on a credit card with no apparent limitation. I have charged as much as $150 in DDs at a time there with no issues. If you are at WDW, there are some restrictions... they have limited people to $50 at a time, since this is actually kind of like a cash advance, and many CCs have a higher interest rate on a cash advance than on a purchase. We were buying them last year at the F&WF, where it was just easier to give a $10 to the vendors, even if it was a Disney Dollar $10 bill. Because you get US currency for change, they apparently have some concerns about this.

They do not expire!

:D
