Ok...i have a couple of questions:
1. are they worth it (money wise)
2. what is the "exchange rate"
3. where can u buy them
4. what (at disney) can u buy with them
5. what at disney can u NOT buy with them

Thanks in advance!

I am by no means a Disney Dollar Official. But here goes.
-They are worth it, if you don't go overboard and buy more than you will use on your trip (there neat, but not neccessary).
-The exchange rate is 1 for 1 (American)
-You can buy them at Guest Relations, or any WDW merchant store.
-You can use them anywhere in the parks and The World of Disney store at Downtown Disney.
- You cannot use them to pay for a "street vendor" purchases at a park (i.e. face painitng, beverage carts), or at any of the other stores at Downtown Disney (including restaurants).

Sorry if any of the info above is incorrect, I'm sure someone will set me straight if it is.

They make neat souveniers too if you have a few dollars left over. And you can use them at any Disney Store near you.

Want to know why I bought Disney Dollars for our trip next month? DS11 can't manage his money; as soon as he gets some, he finds something to spend it on, usually a Nintendo game or another controller (right now he wants some funky-looking controller; we already have 3 controllers and 2 kids). Anyway, for Easter, I gave both of my DS's Disney Dollars. This way I knew for sure that DS11 wouldn't spend his money on Nintendo and he'd have some money for souvenirs at WDW. DS13 is just the opposite - he still has money left from Christmas!

I would not buy them for myself to use in the parks but I did buy them for my parents, sisters & brother for birthdays, Mother's Day, etc. because we are all going on a big family trip this December. I thought it was a good idea for them to have some extra spending specifically for vacation.

We have used them at the street vendors--many times. We bought those light up spinning things they sell before Spectro, many ice creams bars, popcorn and etc. They are treated just like cash.

And if you get too many you can exchange them for cash at Guest Services--I think there is a limit on the amount you can exchange at 1 time.

I brought them for my children to use when we go to Disney. I my self will be using the charge to my room card, but I do think that they are worth it in small amounts.

I usually use the room key for most charging but for souvenir money for the kids or to give as a gift, Disney Dollars are great. They can be used anywhere cash is used at WDW.

Disney Dollars?
Ok...i have a couple of questions:

LOL!! I proably would be called a Disney Dollar Expert! ;)

1. are they worth it (money wise)

--->sure why not? There's no extra charge for them.

2. what is the "exchange rate"
---> even money with the us dollar

3. where can u buy them
--->primarily at any disney store and in the parks (see guest relations)

4. what (at disney) can u buy with them
--->anything that Disney sells within the 47 square miles of the WDW resort.....totally good as if they were issued by the US Treasurey Dept.

5. what at disney can u NOT buy with them

--->there isn't anything that you couldn't

My take on this.....there's no expiration dates, you can also use them to buy stuff in disney stores....(but they are not transferable outside DL,WDW,TDS)....you can "budget" your vacation by buying some every week if you live near a disney store....To me they add an extra bit of magic to the trip.....If you have some left over....that's the starting pool for the next trip....they make great gifts for anyone going to a Disney park....One down side is the limited denominations 1,5,10's ....LOL! if you pay for your room(s) meals, purchases with them...they can get bulky! ..... most TDS have SOP's that limit purchases of DD$ to $500 per person per visit.....with a credit card on file at your resort, you can still charge to your room...then pay off your charges with DD$ before you leave....no credit card bills to worry about! Should you ever wish to exchange them back into USD....keep your reciepts from when you buy them. They are collectable and the designs change year to year too!

Hope this helps! :)

we save them up for our trips. we ask for them for christmas birthdays...etc. Whenever we have a free buck, we buy some. We usually end up with a couple grand (believe it or not). i know if i did not do that, I would spend the money elsewhere & not have what i want for WDW.

I absolutely think they're great! Our girls got them for birthdays and Christmas and Easter from several relatives. They saved about $130 each for the trip and had a ball! They were even wandering around the last evening trying to spend the last of it, so we didn't have any left to exchange! I even got some for a few gifts and it didn't feel like money - lots of fun to spend!

We also have the relatives give the kids Disney Dollars for gifts, (This year Christmas) Before we go to the p[arks. It helps when they want to buy that perfect hat for $50.00 that they will never wear again. LOL

I haven't bought them because they would make spending too easy; like using play money. I can see buying them for gifts, much like a gift certificate, but I can't see buying them for our own use.
But, hey - if they would help you or your kids save for your trip, then go for it! Why not?

I don't have kids, but I love using Disney Dollars myself!! Helps to submerge me into the Disney spirit! :)

Like other posters, I use my room key card to charge everything. Other stuff like street vendors, souvineers, & meals at restaurants in the parks, is what I use my Disney Dollars for.

Then at the end of your trip you can exchange any left over Disney Dollars for cash either at WDW, or you can exchange them at your local Disney Store. Or keep a couple for a souvineer. Disney changes the faces on the bills every year and some people like to collect them. (Hummm, don't tell anyone I said that! ;) Don't want to start a debate on that issue

Anyway have fun with those Disney Dollars!!

I love using them! I decided to do some of the character meals during my trip 2 weeks ago. I dropped into the Disney Store whenever I was in the area and bought some Disney dollars and stashed them away towards our meals. It was a nice way to sock it away without dipping into it like we would with regular cash! Have fun!!

Hubby and I have been buying a certain amount every pay day. This weekend we'll have enough to get our family's PAPs at our local Disney store. We plan to keep on saving them to pay for food on our July trip.

This way we can't raid the money for something else - we know we'll have it for vacation.

I really like the idea of saving for your trip by exchanging extra cash for Disney Dollars--I think I will try that--as long as they don't close all the Disney Stores:(

I've done this for years to stash a little extra $$$$. Every time I have to go to the mall, I buy what I can afford and stash it. Usually I buy $50-$100 and usually I have quite a little nest egg when we go. I usually pay for them with my Amex which earns me points and for which I have to pay up totally at the end of the month (hence no interest). Now, would I have made a little interest on the money had I just left it in savings??? Yes...but would I have actually left it in savings...maybe..maybe not!

We've paid for everything from dinner to cokes at stands....the only places you MAY not be able to use them are at places that disney doesn't own like Fultons, etc. Can't remember about this though.

Also, when you pay for something like a coke for $2 with a $10 bill, they usually give you back regular greenbacks or you can change them at any guest services counter. They only make real money when people keep it for souveniers or when they never turn it in.....of course, I'm sure they make money on the 'float', too!
