Does anyone know of a Disney dollar purchase program on the DISboards? We're going in December and I want to let the kids start earning Disney Dollars before the trip. I've checked all the Disney Stores near me in Texas and they don't have them. Ebay is crazy expensive. Any thoughts?

I kept coming across posts from other members wanting to know if Disney Dollars are available, and a variety of answers. I phoned (back April 2011) and this is the info I received:

- Disney Dollars are available for purchase at the Ticket Booths and/or Guest Relations at any of the parks or DTD
- not available for purchase at Disney Stores
- not available in the Gift Shops, for whatever strange reason
- may be able to purchase from your resort at the "front desk" (check-in area)

For those who really want the Disney Dollars and are not near Disney - you can phone WDW Ticketing at (407) 566-4985 to order them.
Press 2 for "gift cards or disney dollars". Press 3 for "ordering disney dollars".

You can order up to $150 for a $15 shipping fee. The only "catch" is the maximum order is $50 Disney Dollars per credit card. However, you can use up to 3 different credit cards to purchase $150 Disney Dollars and only pay the $15 shipping fee once.

Disney Dollars come in $1, $5, and $10 denominations only. No new bills printed since 2009.

Unfortunately, if you are Canadian, Disney will NOT ship the Disney Dollars to us... :sad2:

went to Disney store a couple of weeks ago. They said Disney stop making them because they weren't recyclable. So they now sell gift cards.

It's paper money - it's completely recyclable!

More likely it was too difficult for the stores to keep track of the inventory. (theft, loss, confusion)
Many people kept Disney Dollars as souveniers, so that lowered redemption rates, which meant Disney could use the real money for other things.

As DaniB said, you can still get them from other venues.

I am going in the end of Oct. and if you sent me money I would be happy to pick them up for you and mail them to you when I get back, unless that would be too late for you to get them. You wouldn't get them until Nov.

I know people are leery of sending money to someone else, but I have done favors for others here and am completely honest. Gee, that sounds like I'm trying too hard :lmao: Sorry. Any-who, let me know :thumbsup2

If you really like the Dollars, I would just make up your *own* "scrip", and each time you give some to your kids, put that real money aside. As soon as you get to WDW, go buy the amount you need, and then exchange it out for the homemade dollars.

That way you're not sending *cash* through the mail.

My previous neighbors bought that fake money at the party store and they created a chart that would show how many dollars they could earn for certain tasks/chores and they created a "Family Bank" where once a week they would reconcile their accounts. When they got on property, the kids exchanged their account money for the Disney Dollars. They are home schooled so they used it as a learning opportunity but to me, it seemed like a lot of fun. It was amazing how responsible the kids were with their money too.

I agree with the last two PP. I still remember the fake disney dollars my Mom printed 20 years ago, and they worked just as well to exchange when we got there. Depending on the kids, might even be better to exchange to gift cards later on.

Exactly. Just print out some Disney images off Google and tell your kids they are Disney Dollars that they can use at Disney World. Then when you get to WDW, just figure out a way to make it work.

I am going first week of October. I would be willing to pick some up for you.

Or if you have real disney dollars (or pictures of the real disney dollars) you could just scan them and print them for the kids and before you go exchange them for either a gift card or real money. (of course I mean that you (yourself) exchange them for your children to replace the play money for real money or a gift card for them to use in the parks.....)
