Are they still around and available through the Disney Store? We used them back in 2006 and I'd like to do that again for our DS8 when we go back next year.
Word is Disney has stopped making the Disney Dollars. You can call the closest Disney Store to you and inquire if they have any 2009 Disney dollars left in stock.
As far as I know, they've stopped selling Disney Dollars at Disney Stores outside of WDW. On Disney property you can still get them. My parents made my niece a homemade "gift certificate" for Disney Dollars in May, and then purchased the actual Disney Dollars once on property in June.
I've heard this too. I've also heard some were able to purchase at their local store that had leftover stock, so it can't hurt to ask.

As far as I know (I am a CM at a Disney Store) none of the stores sell them, and all "left overs" have been returned to corporate. Another alternative is the gift cards, you can put any amount on them, up to $1500 I think.
ok, the real truth is...the Disney stores no longer carry them( since Oct 2009), BUT you can get them in the Magic Kingdom ( they do still make them). They are a Disney park exclusive. They can be ordered thru WDW merch, with a $15 dollar fee for the shipping.
They do still make them, but being that Disney is trying to go more eco friendly, the money takes a lot of ink for something that is used once. There is also the factor that people tend to "save" the money instead of using them.
So with the Gift card, you have to use it. And yes, the Gc can be bought for anywhere from $5 to $1500 dollars and are reloadable at anytime.
The other day I happened to watch an old Simpsons episode where they go to Itchy and Scratchy Land. At the gate Homer is informed about Itchy and Scratchy Dollars, and how you spend them just like real money in the stores (Theyre just like real money but fun!). Homer says Ok, Ill buy $1500.00 worth.
When they enter the main street every single store has a sign: We do not accept Itchy and Scratchy Dollars.
I liked the idea of the Disney Dollars b/c they are easier to keep track of how much you have left compared to a gift card. However, DH likes the idea of the gift card better. DS does, too. He's already asked for $50-$100 worth
As far as saving the Disney Dollars, ok, I'm guilty . We have a few left, I believe, that we didn't get to use the last time.

well, other reason why the gift cards are good, are because you get a receipt for them. if there is any issues with them, or lost, you can have a chance to re cop them...but not if it was the dollars! Also, every time you use it in disney, on the bottom of the receipt you just received, it will have the amount you have on your card. or it can be taken to any register at any time just check balance!
