Disney Dollars

Sorry if this is a dumb question...

I'm thinking of giving DS Disney Dollars as souvenir money. I really want him to count and manage his own money, and last time I gave him gift cards (not the same). If he uses Disney Dollars and gets change, will it be regular money?

I loved letting my kids earn Disney Dollars before our trip. It was a great motivator and they worked hard to earn their money.

When we were actually on the trip, I found the Disney Dollars to be one more thing I had to keep up with. OF course my kids were 7 and 4 so that may make a difference. I did not want them to try to keep up with their money. That would have been too tragic if they lost them.

I found that when we wanted the dollars, they were locked in the safe at the hotel and when we had them, we didn't use them. I only took a little cash, our tickets, id and a credit card with us into the park. I didn't carry a purse or a wallet. I just put those things into my pocket.

They do get change back in real money though.

My daughter and I are taking a mother/daughter trip in June. She is 17 and I am going to give her disney dollars so when she wants a snack or drink she has her own money and she doesn't have to ask me. Of course, I could just give her real money, but I knew she would enjoy the disney money. Also, she obviously is old enough to manage her own money but I can see it becoming one more thing I (the mom) has to manage if my kids were young.
