Where can I buy Disney Dollars? Just at the Disney stores? And what purchases are they good for at WDW? Can I use them toward my resort?

Also- does Disney allow you to get 10% off the purchase of Disney Dollars with a DC membership?

Thanks!

disney dollars are not eligible for the discount. they are considered money.
as for where they can be used~ anywhere at the world. and yes you can use them for the hotel bill.

they can only be bought from disney.

Thanks for the info. I am new to this Disney stuff, but I'm learning quickly! :D

Can you use the DD's for tipping or would it be best to stick with cash or credit card?

I wouldn't want them as my tip, as they can only be spent on Disney things, whereas cash tips can be used for whatever the person decides to use them on.

To tip at the Breakfastasaurus but asked first the CM hostess did not have any problem at all with this.

We have tipped Mousekeeping with Disney Dollars many times. I had a CM tell me once that they could trade in Disney Dollars for cash if they receive them as tips (not sure if this is still true)

... is there any surcharge on the Disney $ or is it even cash for Disney dollars exchange. I imagine most credit cards would treat as cash advance (if you charged the Disney $'s). Seems like some of these would be fun to give the kids for spending money.

I'm go to Disneyland (anaheim) and when I bought my hopper tickets from the Dinseystore they asked if I want any Disney dollars. I wasn't sure if my credit card company would treat it as a cash advance so I declined them. Anyone bought them with a credit card know if that how they see it?

Disney Dollars purchased with a credit card are just like any other purchase you make with you credit card - not a cash advance. I asked about purchasing DD's with a gift card (on advice from other Dis members) and at first they were unsure. However, upon checking the policy, they found that there was no policy against it.

There is no surcharge for exchanging them (like there is with foreign currencies). It's an even US dollar for Disney dollar exchange - at TDS and at WDW.

If you have any left over, you can exchange them back at the end of your trip -- I'm assuming any CM would be able to the same with any Disney Dollars they might receive.

I like to get a bunch whever I go to TDS as a forced savings plan. Also, my kids get them from their grandparents when they send cards and such.

Hope that helps!

We have used purchased Disney Dollars with a credit card before and it is treated as any other purchase. It is like buying a gift certificate with a credit card.

:)

Thanks, that's good to know about no extra charge for using credit cards. I asked because we were just hit for a $5 fee from Discover Card for buying Amer Ex. gift certificate from AAA that we were giving as wedding gift. I would have written a check had I known...

Wow paduncan! That is a shame! Did you ever call Discover and to find out their reasoning for the $5 charge? I would have been REALLY mad!

I purchased disney dollars today for the first time. I am so excited! :Pinkbounc Like a kid with a new toy, I can't stop looking at them :teeth: Anyway, my question is that I had a $25 gift card that I wanted to use to purchase the disney dollars, and the CM would not allow it. She said that the "gift cards are only good toward merchandise, and disney dollars are money, not merchandise". She wasn't too friendly either. :( Anyway, according to mcfrugal, it should have been allowed. Anyone else know? Now I am stuck with all of these gift cards that I bought on ebay with the intention of using them for disney dollars.

Thanks!

You can not get the DC discount on the purchase of DD but you can get the DC discount on the items you purchase with the DD.

Hi twixbar!

I really think that whether it is hit or miss when trying to purchase Disney Dollars with a gift card. I don't think that the stores are SUPPOSED to allow this, but sometimes they do.
You could try another Disney Store, or you could just use your gift cards for merchandise at the stores. Or you could give them as gifts. I think that these are your best options. Because you cannot use them anywhere at WDW.

Hope that this helps!

Thanks, Beth! I think I may have to buy Christmas gifts with the cards I have- even though I wasn't planning on doing much more shopping :) At least now I know!
