Disney Dollars Question

We are thinking about going to DisneyWorld for the first time in 2007. I read in a few places that getting the kids Disney dollars for birthdays, Christmas, etc would be a good idea. I was wondering what Disney dollars can all be used for? Can you use them to pay for the Disney hotels, park tickets, soulveniers, food? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use them at any Disney park, restaraunt, or shop. You can tip with them too the castmembers love it.

We've gotten our DD some for the past 3 trips. She has to buy everything she wants except meals. All souvenirs and snacks. It has been great! It definitely cuts down on the "gimmes", and she's learned about how to budget. Our first trip she wasn't able to buy a kimono from the Japan pavilion, but on the next trip, she made sure to earn enough and didn't buy lots of little stuff.

It's funny - my kids have been getting them for all the holidays that lead up to their trip. This time my MIL is going with us and so we just bought her some for her birthday. I figured it was better than another gift card to JC Penny.

I have been buying around $50.00 each payday. It helps me to save for our trips, that way I don't 'dip' into the savings. I am planning on paying for our resort and meals with Disney Dollars. I only wish I had thought of it earlier!!

Let me say welcome to the board, you'll find lots of helpful people and info here.

The resorts are the hotels on Disney property.

Now about your disney dollars. Our kids have been earning them for several months now and will use them on their trip just like all the others have mentioned. Last time they hadn't spent all their disney dollars and towards the last couple days we trade them for real $ and we used them to pay for meals and snacks and such and then they had $ for when we went to the other park US. (oops don't tell anyone we went there )

There are never stupid questions. Keep asking away. Our family had a trip of a life time full of special moments and memories because of all the great people on this board and their helpful thoughts and ideas.

I'd rethink that. I can't imagine anyone wanting to be forced to shop where they work. Wouldn't you rather have cold, hard cash from someone who was thoughtful enough to tip? Seems to me that Disney Dollars undo the kindness.

They can be traded in for cash. If they don't want them I am sure the wait staff can exchange them at the register.

I ran out of cash, but had Disney dollars handy. The employees can trade them in just like we can. So, I gave them Disney dollars. I'll bet a lot of people tip with Disney dollars, so they are used to changing them.

My girls do small, extra chores and earn their Disney Dollars. They start several months in advance of the trip doing things around the house that they normally don't do. I do not buy them any souveniers. We go a few times of year and they know that they have to buy these with their own money. My oldest DD usually trades her Disney Dollars for regular dollars so she can go to the Birkenstock outlet.... She is my daughter. Atleast if I am paying her in Disney Dollars, she can't spend them before we get there.
