Some of you wanted to see the Disney Dollar pads I made for each of the grand kids for our grand gathering coming up. Here's hoping this shows up. I padded 20 Disney dollars for each I used using chipboard, although you could use the backing from another pad, and I used a padding press, but c clamps or a vise would do).

Then I made a cover for a clear checkbook, out of cardstock and put the padded Disney dollars inside.

Since I don't own a padding press (or know what one is) do you think someplace like Kinkos could do the adhesive part?

I didn't invent this idea of padding, but I've used it often for all sorts of things, including "real" money.

Most people don't own a padding press, but you could use anything that will hold it firm. Check out this website by Maggie Martin (I'm on page 4, with my homemade padder, thanks to my husbands skills)

for an explanation of using rubber bands. You can also use bricks, or a vise.

That is so cool- I love the idea of doing regular dollar bills too. Giving cash seems so boring- but this makes it much more fun.
Thanks DMRick.

Fantastic idea! You're the best grandmom around!

That is way too cool. Thanks for sharing the web-site.

Can you buy the padding compound at a Craft store?

I don't know. I buy mine at a paper store. If you have a Xpedx near you, they have it. I know many who have used Elmers glue and it's worked fine. A little stiffer, but very workable .

Also
www.EDPS.com has both a small padder and the compound.

Very clever. Your grandkids will be thrilled.

Thanks for link. Had no idea one could do "computer crafts".

Thanks for the neat information. This is a good way for kids to keep their money in one place on vacation without it falling out of their pocket.

Ohh! I was setting here at my desk and just happened to notice a purse planner that I bought last year. It is the same size as a checkbook and has a clear cover that the calendar slips in and out of. Looks like I have my checkbook!

 This would be a cool way to make personal "gift certificates" for family members. My S-I-L is expecting their first (and probably only) child in May. She'll most likely stay up here at their lake house all summer. I think I'll make up a pad of certificates that offer stuff like free babysitting, free homecooked meal, a batch of chocolate chip cookies, laundry help, cleaning help, errands help... I already have a "pic" of the baby since she emailed the ultrasound pic to a few of us last week. This way she'll get help when she needs it and not just when someone shows up.
Similiar certificates could be made for the boys...like a get out of a chore type deal. Sort of like a Get out of jail card in Monopoly.
:disrocks:

They are also often used for Valentine coupons...to your spouse.
One free night of using the remote
Free Backrub
One dishwash
One night out to dinner
and I'll leave the rest up to your imagination

For kids
One night of no vegetables
One candybar
One Story read
etc

I could use this for a grad gift for my neice.

Another great way to give money or gift certifcates, is by buying empty unlabeled pint paint cans from Home depot or a paint store and make a label for them. Or use one of those can openers that open cans on the edge (walmart), fill with crupled dollars, and reglue it on (I like to open from the bottom, and use a pop top can), and label it. I make my own soup labels (over the original), and they go in a basket of items when visiting someone that is sick.

I love creative ideas like this!! Thanks for posting! :)
