We have a trip planned for July 2014 and I've been looking up disney dollars and how to purchase them. What I've found so far states you can possibly buy them through the on-site hotels. We're staying at the VGC so I'll try that when we get there.
Just wondering if anyone has bought any recently and if so, where. I like the look of the dollars better than a gift card.

Only 299 days to go until our trip :cool1::yay::banana:

Not anymore. They use gift cards now. When we went in 2011, if you had Disney bucks, you could use them.

As of March they were for sale at City Hall in Disneyland, Chamber of Commerce in DCA and World of Disney in DtD. In WoD I had to ask for them in the middle section where they sell the expensive collectibles, figures, framed art, etc and pay at a register. I've bought them in the past at the Emporium, but I think I remember that in the parks they're only at guest services now. I could be mistaken, but they for sure have them at City Hall.

We were there in May of this year, they had them for sale in the gift shop of Splash Mountain.

They are for sale at several places around the resort. They had tightened up the policy for a period of time, and you were only able to buy them at City Hall and a couple other places, but they seem to have loosened up again. There are usually signs in the Star Trader store that you can buy Disney dollars there, and I'm pretty sure I have done so sometime in the last year. You can definitely still get them at the Emporium on Main Street. I've also bought them at the World of Disney and the DLH gift shop. There are places to purchase them in DCA as well. You can just ask wherever you are, and if that location doesn't have them you will be directed to the nearest location that does sell the Disney dollars.

Cool! Thanks everyone for the info. We're not going until July so I'll see where they're sold then. I will keep this list and check these places out when we get there.

Silly question, but are these 1 regular U.S. dollar per Disney dollar? It sounds like they might be a inexpensive souvenir for the kids. Maybe a cheap souvenir for myself too.

Yes, $1 is equal to 1 Disney Dollar.

Also, some people like to give them as gifts BEFORE the trip begins. You can call DLR & have them sent to you. Last I checked, it was $10 for shipping.

Disney Dollars are never going away. I bought some a few days ago at City Hall. A few years ago I saw Jack Lindquist give a presentation for the Orange County Historical Society. He said that only about 80% of the Disney Dollars sold are ever used, as people keep them as souvenirs. He said that he did the math, and he figures those unredeemed dollars paid for the Indiana Jones ride. Their continued sales will pay for something else. So I don't think they will ever stop selling them.

Awesome. I'm so glad because they look like really cute souvenirs. I wish I would have known about them on our previous trips. This time I'm definitely buying some!

The new 2014 "mountain series" just came out. We got some last week at world of Disney.

Does anyone know if they can be purchased with Disney gift cards? We put a whole bunch of money on gift cards over the holidays to help prepay for tickets ect but I was thinking it would be great to actually get some Disney Dollars for the kids to use as souvenir money.

I am one of those people that bought some to keep. I liked it when the Disney Store carried them in the pre gift card days. I have some fun special edition ones!

You cannot use a gift card to buy them I tried at the Disneyland hotel gift shop. I paid cash instead. I forget why she said I couldn't do that? They had 1s, 5s, and 10s

I figure it is either, if not both, of the following:
1. The Disney dollars are like gift cards, and most places, at least in my experience, don't let you use a gift card to buy gift cards.
2. Unused Disney dollars are supposed to be able to be traded in for cash if you have the receipt. If you could buy them with gift cards and then traded them in for cash, then it would be like cashing in the gift cards.

Ah, well, I will just stick with the gift cards then. Thanks for the info guys!
