My husband and I are taking our very first ever adult only vacation after 12 years. We are celebrating our wedding anniversary, as well, my graduation from my Master's program. We decided to splurg a little and wanted to book the platinum dining plan. I called up member services and was informed DVC is not allowed to book this dining plan. When I asked the CM why, I was told because it is too expensive. Really? Expensive? Do you know what Disney charges per point to buy direct? I am literally at a loss of words. I was so flustered when the CM was trying to tell me about our discounts I couldn't think straight. I had to tell him I would call back later. I think this is the first time ever Disney said they did not want to sell me something.

Think of DVC is an outsider to Disney. They are the middle man who needs agreements/contracts/permission to offer us any discount, ticket deal, AP discount, dining discount, anything.

They will only take the time to offer Disney products that have enough buyers to make it profitable for DVC and Disney, apparently their isn't enough demand for the platinum dining plan through DVC.

Most dining plans are not such a good deal anymore so you can probably save some money by making your own special plan/celebration.

The platinum plan is only available at certain resorts and is much more expensive- I believe that plan is only available when stay concierge level at resorts. Since it includes dining as well as other activities Disney requires you to pay enough during that stay for a room to cover the expenses you are using with it.

Yep, tried to book it about 5 years ago and was told the same thing. DVC can only book the counter service, regular, or deluxe dining plans. No others. Agree with PP, book things yourself and you will likely save money.

If you really want to do the platinum dining plan, rent out your DVC points and book it thru Disney. You do have to book resort, tickets and dining plan thru Disney.

Last I knew, the platinum plan required a Disney deluxe resort package with a rack rate room and tickets. It also has a three night minimum stay.

Those first requirements would exclude DVC reservations by definition.

Disney does not consider the platinum or premium plans as dining plans I believe, but a different category.

Yes, different category because they include tours and extras like that.

It's interesting this is a surprise to you. There was fair amount of time where DVC members couldn't even get any DP options. If you're set on the Platinum plan you can reserve a qualifying option on cash. Otherwise a DVC stay with the Dlx plan and OOP for the other items should be workable.

They want your money. They just want more of it if you want that plan.
