Disney Doctors?

Hi Everyone - I am not sure if this is the right thread for this question, but........ we have all been healthy for almost 8 months here - not so much as a cold - We leave for Disney in 5 days and the baby is just getting over roseola and my other ds woke up with a cold/sore throat this morning!!! Never fails does it? Anyway I guess my concern is the baby getting sick (plane and all)because his resistance might be down from this last virus (maybe the dreaded ear infection!) .....So if we need a pediatrician (we are staying at CBR) does anyone know how this works? Will the doctor come to you? We are not renting a car this trip. I always pack Motrin/Tylenol, but I want to know we can see a doctor if we need to.:scared:

I would make an appt with the baby's dr. the day before you guys leave. If baby is still showing symptoms, ask them to write a script for you just in case. (I know my dr. would do it in that type of circumstance).

Hopefully all is well and everything will be okay. It is stressful going on vacation - hoping that a baby/kid doesn't get sick!! My DD is only 2, so it is still hard - she can't say - mommy my ear hurts, like an older child can do!!

As the PP said, I always go to the drs. before a Disney trip. He is a dad also and knows how it always happens that someone gets sick. When the kids were little he would give me samples of antibiotics for the kids that I could reconstitute when needed and I would get one antibiotic filled for the adults. Then if something happened, he would have the service call him directly if I called in. Wow now that I write it all down, I think I need to send the DR. something little, as he has been doing this for almost 10 years now.. and never a complaint.

Thanks to everyone!....And great advice! I think I will ask for a scrip before we leave (just incase) Its good to know that I can have a doctor come right to CBR if need be. I am thinking of giving my "big kids" airborne before we go too. It can't hurt. Anyone know if the stuff actually works?

I definately agree with having your child check with their doc if they are still sick.

On the other hand, I totally disagree with the poster that stated she has antibiotics on hand for her trip. Different abx are for different problems and activities like that are exactly why we have bugs like MRSA and VRE. I also wouldn't bring an otherwise healthy child into a dr office for prophylactic antibiotics because of the risk of exposing the child to the virus of the day. An even bigger risk of getting the child sick by bring her into a waiting room with a bunch of other sick people.

If you doc is comfortable with prescribing, or if they refuse, ask if you can call from vacation and the doc will call in a script to the pharmacy in orlando. I hope your child feels better and has a great trip.

I always worry about my son getting sick while away and he always does! this past trip in May he did come down with a fever while in the Magic Kingdom. I took him to first aid and they took his temp and then gave him some children's motrin which was really nice since I didn't have mine one me it was back in the room. I always bring it with me on vacation b/c you just never know! Anyway, the following day I called the front desk and got the number to the doctors on call. It was a weekend and they were going to charge close to $300 to come to the room! He ended up being ok and didn't need to be seen. But my neice fell off the bed while sleeping in Disney and the doc came to see her in the morning and only charged her $160 I believe. So it is more on weekends I guess but the resort will also make arrangements for you to be taken to a local walk in doctor's office. I would try not to worry. Disney is the best place to get sick in my opinion! They are so helpful plus your own pediatrician is only a phone call away! Have a great trip!

There is a great walk in clinic close to DTD. They send a free shuttle to come and get you and then take you back. The staff was very nice and professional. and best of all it was all covered by our insurance.:thumbsup2

The reason I know this....In Jan. both ds developed ear infections when we were there. They had never had ear infections before so it took dh and I awhile to realize what was going on.:rolleyes1 They were pretty sick by the time we went to the clinic. I don't remember the name of the clinic. We called the front desk (pop) and they said they could send a Dr. or we could call the clinic. In an effort to save money we went with the walk in clinic. The entire trip there and back was about 3 hrs. We were very happy with the experience. We even have pictures while at the Dr.. The exam table was in the shape of a polar bear and there were disney pictures on the wall.:lmao:

Just jumping in to say what a helpful thread!

I worry too about the "what ifs" when we and/or the kids may (hope not) get sick while we are at WDW.

Thanks for the info!
