Disney Divorces Duff

Sounds like Lizzie got a little greedy. I will be surprised if she is around in a couple of yrs.

I think it is her Mom -

I agree, and she isn't on the same level as Frankie Muniz, but that is probably a tough lesson to learn.

I think I'm on Disney's side after reading this. Disney offered her $4 million for the movie, pretty close to the 5 she was asking (she's not one of those actresses who garners 10 million per movie after all, although she could be eventually), and she could have maybe bargained Disney up a little on the television series, and then if it was a hit the first season, THEN she could come in and demand the 100,000 per episode. I think that wasn't really smart on her part to demand that without having big 3 network ratings history to back it up. I think that's the way a lot of the TV stars get to be that way, isn't it? - by taking what the networks give them the first year, and then if it's a big success, they can come back and ask for a huge raise. I don't think it was that long ago when Cosby? wasn't it?, was the first one to make over 100,000 per episode. Of course, if it's a top 3 show or something, then after a couple years they end up getting the megabucks like Seinfeld or the Friends people, but I don't think most of the TV series people make that kind of money- maybe I'm wrong?

I read the article and then had my 14 year old daughter read it (who has always loved 'Lizzie). Her take? She LOVES the 'Lizzie McGuire' show and character but she doesn't think Hilary is particularily talented, pretty or cool and certainly can't sing. She thinks the continuation of the 'Lizzie' series would have been great but thinks Hilary has no future without 'Lizzie'.

In the eyes of a kid from that particular demographic this looks like a move that will hurt both parties. Also I'd like to note that my daughter too thinks Hilary looks incredibly greedy...

Only time will tell if she made the right decision, but when it comes to greed disney isnt one to cry foul in that regard!!!!
O dont blame her for trying to get as much as she can, as for disney their only concern is too milk her for what they can get and then dump her if she isnt needed. And this attitude is why many in hollwood dont work for the mouse.

Well, it's just my opinion or my morals or whatever, and I may be old fashioned or something, but if a certain company had gone out on a limb and made me the star of my own cable show, without my having had any real television experience before, I would probably have some loyalty feelings toward said company, which would be worth something. Disney has made a lot of young people stars, even much bigger stars than Hilary, and most really had no prior professional experience. Then they act like a very nice salary isn't enough. Ok, I'm getting off the soapbox....

But she is a LIZZIE fan not a HILARY DUFF fan. There in lies the problem for Ms. Duff. I do not think it will be an easy transition for her from Lizzie to other roles. And while my dd would not want to watch someone else being Lizzie, she also would not want to watch Ms. Duff being someone else.

Snow Brite, I agree and that was the point I was trying to make...Lizzie isn't Hilary and Hilary isn't Lizzie. The question now is can Hilary be Brittney?

Bob O, we all know Disney is greedy...What corporate entity isn't? But in this case (as pointed out by freediverdude) it appears that the talent has gone out on a limb and yes only time will tell but I think the vehicle to stardom (Disney) was pretty generous in their offer this time....

FWIW, my 13 Yr old son, a Hilary Duff fan for obviously hormonal reasons, liked the Cody Banks movie because of Duff AND Franky Munez (sp?). He didn't like the Lizzie movie at all. It could also be possible that Lizzie franchise has run its course as well. Don't know if the Disney Channel going after the 11-14 demographic has worked well for them or not. I know the line up was very popular with DS. So I hope they have a decent replacement for the Lizzie thing......

Gee, how hard can that be? Brittany can't sing either.
Don't know how hard that can (or should) be but I suspect Brittney's bank account is larger than mine...So she's done something right and I suspect that whatever "it" was, Hilary would be happy following suit...Just not sure she (Hilary) has "it" ... Whatever "it" is!;)

I tried sooooo hard to find a way to say that very thing but you were able to do it! Way to go my friend! ...

... But still there is a doctor out there who knows something...

 Gee, where did she learn her greediness from? The best in the business.... Eisner! :p

Peter Pirate, I agree that disney is greedy, just like any copmany and most stars for that matter. And i have no idea if she will be a star or not, but she is just another example of a star or company that disney cant come to agreements with, Be it the trouble they have had with Pixar/relatives of Pooh/Unable to come to an agreement with lucas for new star wars film/Ron Howard as examples that disney doesnt play well with others and doesnt realize their are many others in the industry who will be happy to take what disney is unable to come to terms with. She is a symptom of a problem that disney has had when trying to hammer out agreements.

I think people fall in love with charactors more so then the actors. Look at how many "big stars" never moved beyond their first big role,( people were Hawkeye fans, not Alan Alda fans). I think Hillary falls into that catagory. And to say Disney's failure to sign her is somehow systemic of recent media events IMO is a huge stretch. She was asking for 5 mil, they went to 4 mil, she wouldn't accept it,they wouldn't go higher, time to part company. Maybe she was greedy, maybe Disney was cheap, maybe none of us will ever know the true facts. Maybe Disney feels they took a nobody and made her a Lizzy, they can do it again. Only time will tell on this one.
