Is it me or do any other DVC members feel that Disney has done nothing to help us through this recession the same as people on package deals. Over the years our dues have increased as regularly as park admission and our member perks have decreased. Where is our free dining, free Disney gift card, special deals for selected dates. Just because we are DVC members and are a captive audience don't mean we are recession proof or have endless cash to spend. Add to this the cost of transatlantic flights (I'm from the UK) I can know see all inclusive deals at OKW and other DVC resorts including free dining at less cost than my annual dues. Come on Disney cut a bit of slack for your devoted customers.

As a Disney shareholder who also receives NO discounts of benefits whatsoever, I agree with you completely. Disney should recognize their most loyal customers.

I love the $100 discount on Annual Passes, and there are discounts for most of the tours for DVC Members.

I don't own any other timeshare's, but I've never heard of any special deals for people who use their timeshare's regularly. Just me, but I feel that my DVC membership is already a great deal compared to similar accommodations at rack rate with free dining.

Don't get me wrong, I love perks....still, I wouldn't give up my DVC points to get free dining at All Stars. I honestly feel I have a bargain already!

If I knew Disney would be having 40 percent off Deluxe rooms I probably would have never bought DVC. Even though it would be nice for some more discounts thrown our way, I use the current discounts to extend my vacation. Now I can stay in a bigger room and use up my points then swap over to another deluxe resort for the remainder of the vacation at a great rate.

That is a sensible way to do it.

Our first trip was in 2005 there were no discounts and we didn't know we could have re-booked and applied free dining, same in 2006 and 2007 (no discounts) so we bought into DVC.
There may be discounts and offers now but in a couple of years these will probably dry up and (with the UK/USA exchange rate and inflation) DVC will be a 'good offer' again.
You may save a bit of money now but over the length of the contract DVC will be a better offer (although I wouldn't say no to a perk they might offer me :goodvibes). I just hope the cost of flights doesn't go crazy or we would have to sell :sad1:

I agree with that, Sharon. I was annoyed when we didn't get any breaks on tickets, but I was happy when they offered the AP discount. Although I am still paying less than a family, when all is said and done.

I feel that I'm paying Value resort prices over the course of my lifetime for Deluxe rooms. While I would like more perks, I think the ones we have already are pretty good.

Other than the dues each year, I like not actually pulling money out of my wallet to pay for a deluxe room. I know it's not "free", but it feels like it.

I can go on the discounts if I so choose, those are open to everyone.

I'd like to see better perks on food.

When we bought DVC back in late 2008, the discounts were much less attractive. We love our DVC and I love not having to convince DH that we need to book a trip every 6 months, but it does depress me a little that there are killer deals now that we're more locked in. I do think it'd be nice if they upped the perks for DVC members a little in light of all they're doing for other guests, but that's probably just wishful thinking. I guess I just have to remind myself that once the deals go away I can still go on my 2 trips a year!

DVC is a great program. As for discounts DVC members do pay regular dining plan pricing during seasonal price increases. It's not much of a savings, but it does help, and it at least shows they are trying to save us some money.

Could DVC do more...Yes. Could they do less...Yes.

My MIL and FIL are DVC owners and that's the one thing they complain about: Discounts. They loove their DVC and the fact that the rooms are paid for is sweet!! But..they said that they would like to have discounts like 40% off purchases at certain stores on WDW property, maybe for every DVC member in that group can get a one free meal per day or their choice or something like that.

They don't have a lot of money and I can see how they sometimes feel that others get better rates and stuff than they do. But..they just look at it as something they may have one day(discounts) or may not..but at least they don't have to pay for the rooms!! That's what my FIL says!! LOL:thumbsup2

Remember as DVC owners, we don't have to pay the room tax that others pay when paying for a typical room. That can amount to more than $200 on a typical vacation.
