Disney Dinning Plan glitch

We just returned from WDW and I have to report a glitch in the Disney Dinning Plan. Our party consisted of two children (4 & 6) and two adults. We were there for 7 days so we had a total of 28 counter services, snacks and sit down meals. I noticed the first day that they did not keep track of which credits were used for the children and which were used for the adults. So, I asked the front desk at the Wilderness lodge. I didn't want to loose track of which were used for the kids versus the adults. They told me that currently they are not distinguishing between adult and children on the dinning plan. So I asked them directly: "You mean I can use all 28 vouchers for adult meals?" The answer was yes. So we tried it the next few days and there were no problems. We simply paid for the children's meals separately and used the vouchers for ourselves. We also used vouchers for an adult meal and split it among the children. I even asked two more times at the front desk and each time I was told that it was ok to do what I was doing.

This all strikes me as odd. I know half of the vouchers I had only cost $10 each because that is the child rate. Considering this $10 voucher got me almost $60 to $70 worth of food I was thrilled!!! I don't like to take advantage of this sort of stuff but when the representatives of the company tell you it is ok, then I figure what the heck, let's make it extra special.

I don't know how long this policy will be in place before this is corrected in their system. I hope it is soon. The dinning plan is a great service even when using it the way it is intended. I would hate to think they dump the plan because the employees were not regulating the credits properly.

Towards the end of the week, we had to make an effort to use up our credits so half he time we used it for the kids meals. Even this was a bargain. The average kids counter service alone ran $10 by the time you factored in dessert and drink.

All in all, the dinning plan is the best way to go. I think the dinning plan gives you more of a savings than the Passholder route.

This has been reported by many/most who have used the plan. Many of us are planning to do just what you did, pay for some children's meals out of pocket.

I am sure Disney will find a way to "fix" this a some point, but until then, we are allowed to do this.

Great to hear. I have been away from the Internet for over a week so I didn't know if this was known or not.

I'm sure Disney is aware of this and are doing this "on purpose." Trust me, if Disney wanted to fix something...it would be fixed *like that!*

And if a family stays for 7 days and 6 nights...then they would have 24 table service credits...not 28, right? (same for counter and snacks) Doesn't it go by evening spent at Disney and not by days?

Yes that is correct!! :flower: Well that also depends if you are a family of 4.too!!

Even with our two children ordering off the children's menus (as is the intention as outlined in the brochure) it was a ton of food; almost too much, actually. I know lots of people do it this way but I can't imagine wanting to pay out of pocket for kids meals and then order more adult meals. :crowded: Just curious, how did you eat all this food?? :confused3

We arrived Saturday and left Saturday. Stayed 7 nights with 4 people and got 28 credits. You madde me recount on my fingers and toes just to make sure I was right. :earseek:

We used some of the counter credits for breakfast. We have kids that get up at 6:00 AM and are used to having a decent breakfast (eggs, oatmeal, etc) every day. So, we used it for that and we also saved some of the table credits for the Hoopty Doo review. We cashed in 2 credits per adult. After a while, we stopped buying the kids meals when we realized we couldn't eat all of the food ourselves. My wife swears she gined 15 pounds this trip just because of this dinning plan. For her it was bitter sweet. The kids loved getting a dessert every meal though.

That's exactly right. Tell your DW I feel the same way. We used it in January and though it was great fun I'm still paying the price. ;) I love a bargain so it would be tempting to use it on future trips but for health reasons we probably won't. Normally on our trips to WDW and even on the cruise we don't gain weight. But this was different.

Actually, Disney doesn't view this as a glitch or loophole. They explain clearly at their site that all the credits count the same and are pooled together to be used by anyone in your party.

I gained 6 lbs. on our trip ..I have managed to lose 4 lbs of it this past week..THANK GOD!!!!

Does anyone know what they charge for children on the Fantasmic package? We are going to Mama's for the package on the dining plan since so many have said we could and would love to use 2 adult credits and then pay out of pocket for my son. It says on allears menu that kids are only 4.99 but I wonder if they charge more with the Fantasmic package. Anyone know?

Thanks,
Lesley

It's strange Disney will let this happen ...but you can't get a dessert other than the pineapple and caramel at O'hana. :sad2: Pretty soon people will be bringing "imaginary" children with them to Disney. ;)

Are you sure about the Ohana dessert? Every single post I've read about it said that they were able to order an additional dessert besides the pineapple.

The Fantasmic did not cost any more than a regular meal for me. In fact, we used the sit down meal credits of that day for the Fantasmic. I asked if there was an additional charge for the reserved seating and my server told me the reserved seating was a little something extra we got since we had dinner at thier establishment and there was no additional charge.

About the Ohana's desserts: People posted that starting a few weeks ago, only the Pineapple, was incl. In April, we were able to order other desserts, but I guess no more.

I agree- If Disney wanted to fix the "glich", they would. By letting people pay cash for the kids, and using the credits, for more table service, they are increasing the traffic to those restaurants. People are still spending $$ on alcohol, spec. drinks etc. I'm sure Disney has it built into the cost of the plan.

That's ridiculous. :sad2: No one in my family except me likes pineapple. Thanks for the info though.

But then they would have to purchase imaginary park passes for them.

I found another glitch - we went to WDW back at the end of April. Well, this Friday night, my husband and I went out to Outback. I was thinking, "hmm, appetizer each, main course, then dessert." LOL Like I would order that at home when paying out of pocket for every part??? Ah, I got so spoiled...

we were at O'hana's last Wed, the only dessert you can get is pineapple , all other desserts were alacarte @ $5 each.We had a big party and when I noticed lots of people ordering dessert I asked our waiter if he had explained they would be charged for the desserts and he said he had - but when I asked my mother she said he had not - so beware - pineapple free - anything else $5.
Another glitch you really need to watch out for is - my dh ordered 2 coffees on the dining plan and was charged for two cs meals. I saw it on the receipt and had it fixed - but be sure when you order anything you check wghat they are charging you for! I do not know if coffee is a covered beverage or not - but I would gladly pay out of pocket for it rather than use up a counter service meal credit!
