I have made dining reservations for the Spirit of Aloha and Hoop-Dee-Doo. My question is will my 4 year old son enjoy these. Would Mickey's BBQ be better?? I loved these shows growing up, but not to sure how they are now.

I have never been to the Mickey's BBQ. In my experience, the HDD is fun for kids. Our last trip, I was there with my kids, almost 4 year old twins and a baby along with nieces and nephews ages 7, 5, and 2 and they all had a blast!

MBBBQ will be your best bet. The food is awesome plus there's burgers and such for kids. There's also a self serve Mickey bar freezer.

A four year old will be bored at SOA and hddr.

I think HDDR is good option with a 4 year old, but I would not suggest SOA. But is does depend on the child. My older son loved it at 4, my younger one (who is much less cooperative at sit down meals) was not as much of a fan at that age. I have never been to the BBQ, so I don't have an opinion on that one.

our grandkids were 3 and 4 their first Luau and they loved it and we took them back again at the age of 5 and 6...they sat in awe the whole time...they did have an alternate food option for them too...chicken fingers and mac and cheese or hot dogs...and they ate mostly off the big platters...they loved the music and the dancing...they had an awesome time and asked to go back

I can't comment on Spirit of Aloha b/c I've never been.
Last time we went to HDD, my daughter was 4, almost 5. she had a good time.
We did MBYBBQ on a different night and she no doubt liked it much better. She got to meet and dance with Chip & Dale, Mickey, and others.

For us adults, we definitely enjoy HDD much much more. Not even a comparison. The food was better, the entertainment was better, and we felt we got more value out of it.
For the kids though, at least my daughter, enjoyed MBYBBQ much more. She even asked to go back there on our upcoming trip. She didn't ask to do HDD, although at the time she did enjoy it, just not as much. The food is only average at the BBQ, but it's more of a good time for the kids rather than the food. BTW, the unlimited Mickey ice cream bars gave my daughter an ear to ear smile all night :-).

We are lucky enough to have ADRs for both on our next trip, but if you had to choose one, I would go with HDD over the others.
In your case, I would swap out Spirit of Aloha for the BBQ.
