Disney Dining World of Color Seating Question

Hey all!

Taking my kids to the park for the weekend and I'd love to take them to World of Color. I was thinking of trying to get a reservation for dinner at the restaurant next to Blue Sky Cellar (forget the name) as I hear they do World of Color seating there (and my kids like Italian food).

My question is- assuming I can get a short notice reservation- as I recall the location is pretty far from the World of Color location so is this really a good place to catch the show?

Is there a better Disney Dining location to try to get a reservation for so I have a pretty good shot at my kids seeing the show? I'm by myself and can't put them both on my shoulders (not that people want me doing that anyway).

So maybe the BIGGER question I'm getting at is: if I am willing to pay- and I am- what is my best option to allow my two little kids to see World of Color from a 'good enough to enjoy the show' spot?

Thank ya'll!

You have several misconceptions here.

First, the restaurant of which you are thinking is the Wine Country Trattoria (WCT).

Second, there is no "seating" for World of Color. There is only standing (with a few minor exceptions).

Third, you do not watch WOC from WCT. You eat there and they give you special passes to get into the preferred dining viewing area for WOC later in the evening.

Fourth, if you want to go this weekend the preferred dining reservations are likely taken already. You may be able to get a picnic reservation.

For more info on all of the above see "World of Color Superthread" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=37986447

Hydro- thanks for the info. Appreciated.

One more question then: so we eat at WCT (assuming we get in) and then we get passes to go stand and watch the show. Do you know if those passes put you in a good place where little kids can see or are the chances of you being behind lots of people- even with those passes- still pretty high?

My biggest issue is I don't want to get my kids all excited and then they spend the show looking at people's legs and every now and then seeing a spout of water in the distance because they can't see over anyone :)

Thanks!

David

The WCT/Ariel's option will get you into the best section. But all the sections have big flat areas where people have to stand behind other people. I haven't done the preferred area but have done the ones you get with the picnics, just to either side of it. The best way to do it is to line up as early as possible for your show and get a spot so that your kids are up along the railing (then you can stand behind them to see over the top). I think the preferred area also has some steps that you could stand on to see over the crowd, but that still might not be enough for the kids.

The fountains do go up pretty high in the air but there is still a lot of action along the waterline. If you have ponchos or don't have a problem with getting wet, you can also get a good view from the splash areas (easier to get along the railing).

But I have heard others say that the show is best viewed from farther back so that you can see the fountains that are inside the viewing area also.

Sorry, that probably confused you more than helped

Look at the link Hydro listed.

WCT and AG put you in the best area. Picnic meals put you in the second and third best areas. People who get in the FP line in the morning get a FP for the 2nd-3rd best areas. After that it depends on what spot in that area you get. If you read in that link you can get some of the strategies.

How can I be sure to get a good viewing spot for me and my younger children?

Guest feedback on WOC has been mostly positive with a bit of not-so-positive. In retrospect it appears Disney did not do a very good job of designing the viewing area. I am sure they tried hard, but some things are hard to know until you have finished.

The viewing area is all designed for standing with a few benches. It was originally designed to handle 9,000 people per show. Eventually they realized they could only fit in 4,000 per show.

The bottom line is that there are some great viewing spots and many average and poor viewing spots - which depend a lot on how tall you are and how early you arrive to wait in line for admission to the viewing area.

When we saw World of Color for the first time from an excellent viewing spot, we were all blown away at how good it is (see my review here). In my opinion it is worth the effort to get a good viewing spot, especially if you have children. If you do not, you may be frustrated with the experience and your and your children's ability (or inability in many cases) to actually see the show.

Further, when there are multiple shows each night I think one's opinion on WOC depends a lot on how tired they are and whether they are seeing an early or later show (on nights when WOC shows multiple times). I posted my personal thoughts on this here. Use the viewing chart thread information by S. S. Columbia to make sure you get a good spot and, if possible, see an earlier show - especially if you have younger children.

Cool. Much appreciation to you all! This is very helpful.

I had someone else tell me you can see the show great from Toy Story Mania and there are no lines or crowds but you see the show in reverse?!?

Does anyone know if this is true? I don't mind seeing the images backwards if it means easy to get seating. Anyone have an experience with that? Or is my friend mistaken and they block that area off?

Thanks again!

This is the view from the backside near Toy Story.
Very limited number of spots to stand on the backside.
You also only see small parts as there is a lot of stuff in your way..... Not worth IMO.

This is the view from front in the Blue area next to the Fastpass entrance. This is one of the easiest spots to get without fighting the early crowd. Get Fastpasses at 9:30am the day of the show by waiting in line about 10 minutes. (Easy)
This is much much better.

Any spot from the front is much better. The sound is better, the screens are better, everything is better. Many have only seen it from the back and were thrilled, but did not realize they only saw a small part of the WOC Show.

Love that picture!!! When my family and I went..I really didn't get to see anything. I'm short and all the people in front of me were tall. I was disappointed, so we lingered for that last show near Ariel's Grotto and I was happy. I got a better view there and no fast pass was required!
