Disney Dining Plan question..

Can you add the dining plan without booking a package (room & park tickets). I'm asking because I plan on booking a trip in April and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get free park tickets for some of the days and the other days I'll use my disney dollars for park tickets. So I'm wondering can I book DDP for all the days I'll be there or am I only entitled to DDP if i book a package with park tickets.
I'm not sure if i'm explaining this clearly.

only if you're staying DVC. otherwise a package is required

oh that stinks. So how can I work it that I can use the free park tickets and book a package for the DDP? or am i asking the unimaginable?

You can't. At minimum, you have to purchase a 1 day park ticket for everyone on the package.
