Disney Dining Plan for DVC Members

I don't think $37.99 is a lot to spend on meals especially eating at top WDW restaurants. Annmarie

My wife, daughter and I are looking forward to purchasing this plan come August. We just came back from vacation this December and the whole time we were there, with the exception of a couple of times, we ate in. We had the one bedroom and took advangtage of the kitchen. This time we are going to get a studio and don't plan on eating in once. I figured the money I saved last trip can go into the dining plan this trip. We plan on making reservation at all the good restruants (most of them being at Epcot), some of which we have never eaten at due to cost. I am getting hungry just typing this :rotfl:

Be nice--I'm one of those porkers you see in the parks, and wait until you reach 40, when EVERYTHING spreads ;) For those of you on diets, you can get the DDE card instead, for $50 per year, which gives you 20% off on everything, including drinks. I saved $50 on 3 meals, and it's good for a year, even on small meals. While $38 is a great price for daily meals, if you eat lean it may be cheaper to just buy the card. :)

I asked today and it is 37.99 for adults and I think 10.99 for the kids. That is the number I rattled off for the kids and she said yes.

You must also be staying at a DVC resort, it doesn't work if you are staying on points at any of the Disney collection resorts.

Can you buy the plan, if you are staying at DVC on cash. (weekends) :flower:

$37.99??? If I spent that much per day on food at WDW, I'd come home looking like some of the other porkers I see in the Parks!!!!!!!! :cool1:
Would have to get out my Lard Ashe jeans.

Not only is your comment really mean, it's simply not true. Dinner at a nice restaurant (like Coral Reef, just for an example) plus tax & tip, a counter service lunch, and a bottle of water or soda would cost more than $37.99 for most people regardless of what they look like. I also don't think 2 meals a day is too much food to eat at Disney or anyplace else. Your comments make you sound either really mean or just cheap.

Well, I don't mind being called mean and/or cheap, but have a problem if you think I'm not telling the truth!! As to our typical meal costs; at WDW we typically eat two meals a day---we found that eating three meals daily adds weight quickly. As DVC members for 10+ years, our typical breakfast will consist of bagels, yogurt, orange juice, fresh fruit and coffee. Getting it from Publix, probably runs $5 for each of us. Our second meal is usually early afternoon, most likely from a counter service place, but may be a sit down. Depending on the menu, we might split the entre; again Disney has large portions---more than we need to fill up. That gets us up to $25 to $30 a piece. Under the dining plan, there is a tendency to try a get the most for your money, which leads a lot of people to overeating...Hence, the original comment which, while not polically correct, is true. Two or three times each trip we'll stop in one of the better restaurants....Le Cellier is the favorate, as is Brown Derby, Tony's, Olivia's. --and if you think I'm pulling your leg about them, if you're in LeCellier during the next few months, ask for Carla as your server---she's from Vancouver or Victoria, and she's a doll. If we don't get a main meal at WDW, we hit one of the places at Crossroads, or Golden Corral. All of which gets us well under $37 per day per person. On the other hand, we have the DDE card, which is worth its weight in gold and doesn't motivate overeating. JMHO :cool1:

We are renting points again this year and very excited about the plan. Does anyone know if DVC renters can get the meal plan as well? We stayed on the meal plan last year when we went for vacation. We have two small children (5 and 3) and plan was so worth it. We were able to do a character meal everyday!!!! No waiting in line to see and get autographs just used the meal plan. It includes tax and gratuity. At the Castle alone for lunch our bill ran over $120 dollars for one meal. The plan for the day cost $100 . So infact the meal plan paid for the castle dinner plus a nice counter service meal later on in the day. MOre food than you probably could eat. :Pinkbounc

Early in '06 all meals @ Cindy's will take 2 dining credits. Additionally, lunch & dinner will be character - Fairy Godmothers I believe. Lunch offerings are now quite limited and expensive IMO. We thought the prime rib was satisfactory for dinner, hope it's still offered when they change over.

Obviously, you don't eat at the parks at all, a burger and fries for lunch, and a sit down dinner would run you over the 37.99 a day....so, your comment was uncalled for, and just goes to show everyone here you really don't eat at Disney, or you'd know that $37.99 for a days worth of meals is very inexpensive....try eating at LeCellier, Chef's de France, Tony's Town Square, Liberty Tree Tavern, L'Originale Alfredo's de Roma.
I guess it depends on the choices you make. We don't spend that much per day including tax and tip when we have two sit down meals per day even if some are signature locations. But it's nice to have options for those that it is helpful for.

We just reserved 3 nights at WDW May 28-31. Since it is just the three of us this trip we decided to add the dining package. This is the first time in 13+ years that we have driven from Indiana. We are taken our son to meet a connecting flight to Australia for 18 days. BTW, I'll be the mother CRYING her eyes out because her first born has just left the nest. Our DD (to be 15 May 30) has spent at least 10 of her birthdays at Disney and because we are bringing the DS down we have the opportunity this year to do it again. Two week vacations have had to be moved to July due to high school activities. It is really awful when your kids get older. Young parents, enjoy those babys!!! :)

I was disappointed when I tried to book AKL and was told I couldn't add the package. It makes NO SENSE. The information provided on the DVC website says nothing about having to stay at a DVC resort; if it does I missed it even after reading it twice! So we are planning to stay at BWV due to DD request. "Love that clown pool she says".

PS We get to enjoy the International Flower and Garden Festival this year.

I have some friends going down with me in June (assuming I can change the 1 bedroom to 2 studios, I'll call MS later this morning). While the Dining Plan doesn't work for Mom & I, I'm giving my friends the info and letting them decide for their room. Usually, though, we have similar dining habits.

jctwizzer - Just read your ignorant comment and I'm not going to respond to that as we've already been reminded by a moderator that this topic is not appropriate for this forum, but based on what you say you eat in a day, I must say that your food choices of bagels, coffee and counter service may not be so friendly on your waist either. There are much better food options if you are indeed watching your caloric intake (which everyone should be doing since Diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity are out of control nowadays based on diets).

We were thinking of doing the Dining Plan when we come down in May. Having an accounting background, I did a spreadsheet analysis of what our last trip cost us using the DDE and what it would cost us using the dining plan.

On paper, the meals plan would save us about $50.00. But, we would get a lot more food since we don't ususally have an appetizer and dessert at dinner. However, my DD would not eat her full $11.00 worth of food since she eats mostly pizza and french fries at Disney (we usually bring her food) so I think the DDE works better for us.

I know, what do you do with an 11 YO that onlys eats enough for a bird? $37.99 a day is insane.

I guess I'm confused since pizza and fries would equal up to be $10.99 or more per day. Where do you normally eat? Just curious as we are always making adjustments to our dining plan. Our 2.5 year old eats pretty well, although not breakfast, and we know that she'll eat more than $10.99 per day as we bought her all kinds of her own meals last year at table service restaurants (compared the bills - of course her buffets were free - that was great!)

$10.99 would be awesome-but thats only until 9 years old. Overnight many kids cant suddenly eat $37.99 a day. Maybe at 16 or so.

Sorry, but I was directing my comment to Dizzy4Dizney since she mentioned her child eating at the 11.00 rate. I did see that your child is over 9 as you mentioned the 37.99 rate - that is steep if your child doensn't eat much. For us, it seems as if the child's dining plan at 10.99 for 3-9 is the best deal going as our daughter drinks at least 2 bottles of water per day and that's over 5.00 right there!

I don't want my DD to just eat pizza and french fries for a week. Plus, I don't just want to eat only where I can get pizza and french fries.

Anybody? I have 5 days on points, and a Saturday on cash. Can i get the plan on the cash night too, or only on the 5 nights on points?
THANKS!

I don't want to hijack this thread or anything, but could someone please post the link to where I can read and access the information purtaining to the DDE? Is this a florida resident thing or can anybody buy into it? I don't know much about it other than people keep bringing it up :D

Thanks in advance
