disney dining plan any good?

I have been to wdw in August for the last two years, I never noticed it being any more crowded because of the dining plan.

In our experience we certainly found Magic Kingdom busier in August the last 2 years.

Now is it just me, or does 3 weeks food for us 5 costing that much seem a bit high. We could live at Marks and Specer food hall for way less than that.
It would cost us a tad over £1600.00 for the dining plan for 3 weeks, roughly £80.00 per day.

Maybe its just me and obvioulsy you spend money on hols that you would not normally, but I just cant see that it is worth it. But a lot of you seem to think it is real good value.

Steve

Does sound expensive, though it is not something we have costed as Josh hates eating out, maybe you need a really healthy appetite to make it worthwhile!

Hi All

We are getting very excited here about 3 and a bit months till we head out for 3 weeks to POR.

We are still talking about the dining plan. But we are going for 21 nights and I am still struggling to get how it is worth it. I know we all have our different ideas of expensive and so on, but for us 5, 2 adults 3 kids although Beth is 10 so an adult in Walts eyes. It would cost us a tad over £1600.00 for the dining plan for 3 weeks, roughly £80.00 per day.

When we went in 2001, staying at the AS Movies (3 off us), we ate on site everyday (2 weeks) NOT on the DDP. Some of the days we didn't have starters & puds and the total bill for our food for the 2 weeks came to just over £1200.

In 2003 we stayed in the Holiday Inn on I-Drive and except for 2 days ate off site. This came to approx £975 (not including tips) for 2 weeks.

In 2006 we were on the DDP, booked through BA, which came to £966 for the 3 of us for 2 weeks. IMHO good value for money.

Went in 2005 kept reciepts, the reciepts added up came to the same as being on the plan for 2006, we ate at a lot nicer places in 2006 so yes it was worth it for us.

We went August 2005 and hardly ate anything as it was just so hot, we (me Dh DD9 & DD7) also shared a lot as the portions are huge. We spent way less than the DDP but as we've got it free this year we're having it and I've already booked a ton of ADR's

I think for it to be really worthwhile you have to be spending a lot or all of your time onsite. We like to eat offsite a lot and so it would not be worth it for us.

Just rambling now, have a good Easter Sunday!

Steve

Hi steve we got the ddp for free so we are looking forward to some good adrs but if we had to pay for it we probably wouldnt go for it because we also like to try other places to eat outside disney, like on i drive, happy easter to you all too.

Hi All

Hope you all had a good and sickly Easter Sunday.

We went in 2002 18 nights at ASMovies, we spent approx 2000.00 overthehols, but not all on food. I know what you are all saying, I think it is just the fact that 1600.00 on food and drink for 3 weeks. I bet the Beckhams live on less! ha ha!

I think we will give it a miss to be honest, we are allowing 2500.00 spending (plus the inevitable card purchase) for the 3 weeks.

3 months and counting woo hoo!

Hi Dave tcd had a offer on last year from mid august,if you booked a disney hotel and park tickets through tcd you got the free dining plan for everyone in your party as long as you were going after august 12 2007 so it sounds good value, we will see when we go, can,t wait.
cheers David.
ps whats the legroom and meals like? and finally have a great holiday:)
have you tried bahama breeze and race rock cafe on i-drive,do you recomend any restaurants?let us know how your hols went.

Hi All
It would cost us a tad over £1600.00 for the dining plan for 3 weeks, roughly £80.00 per day.

i take it that its free(well cost of park tickets) so its good value. We did the free ddp last year and we eat over £2000(inc tips) of food on it(noted what was on reciept before they took it away to have ddp aplyed).
Granted if we hadent done ddp we would have spent £1400 on food mostly ofsite. It gives the convinance of eating all things disney. This aug were paying 7 nights and free 5nights.Would do it again next year only if tips are included (loads of rummors tip to be removed)
As we have visited florida many times(no mad park days) we look forward to our food experance and have found the ddp enhances it
If paying cash for the same food in the disney resturants the food prices are inflated compared to of site. But with the ddp theres no nead for car to go of site.
Also havent found parks too busy during free ddp just the resturants

We paid for DDP in February and thought it was worth every penny. We have done the same for November.

Some people think it ties you down but for us it was not a problem. On the days we were out and did not want a table service meal we just booked a Signature resturant for 2 vouchers.

Hi Dave firstly leg room im 5/5 and found it be ok my son is 6ft and found it a bit cramped, next meals i think i read some were on the dis boards that race rock is closed:confused3 ,if your going to i-drive you have to go to the ponderosa its a all you can eat steak house,if you like mcdonalds and you have kids i-drive has the biggest mcdonals in the world they have a massive play area up staires. As for travel city we have never had any problems with checking in. touch lucky this time we have upgraded to sunshine premium with the extra leg room and with out kids under the age of 3.
