Disney Dining Experience

If you are referring to the Disney Dining Card we just purchased it for $60.00 with our DVC discount.

Wait, I'm confused. Is the new perk the Disney Dining Plan or something new called the Disney Dining Card?
The new perk is the Disney Dining Plan (often referred to as DDP).

I think wisbucky is referring to the Disney Dining Experience or DDE. It costs $60 for AP holders. There is no DVC discount on the DDE.

The Disney Dining Experience is a card you purchase that gives you 20% of table service restaurants. The Disney Dining Experience is explained further here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=819460 The Disney Dining Plan is an additional cost you add onto your vacation. The cost of the Disney Dining Plan is $37.99 for adults and $10.99 for children 3-9 years old. This is the cost per night of stay and is required for each night of your stay. The price of the plan includes tax & tip.

The Disney Dining Plan is what is availble to all DVCers staying at DVC resorts after April 1st. The cost is $38 per night of your stay for adults $11 per child 9 and under. Everyone in the room must be on the plan, and the plan must b for your entire length of stay. It includes 1 snack, 1 counter service and 1 table service/buffet meal per day.

The Disney Dining Experience Card is available to all Annual Passholders. It is valid for 20% off at virtually all full service/buffet restaurants operated by Disney, and at counter service places at the Value resorts and Animal Kingdom. Cost is $60 per year for passholders, each card is good for a party of up to 10 people.

Your right LisaS I had meant AP holders not DVC.

Just a quick note on the DDE card...We purchased last April and have used it on a few trips to the World, up until Christmas. We were at Disney from Christmas-NY Day and knew the card could not be used on Christmas, NYEve and NYDay, but assumed we could use it on the other few days we were there. We had lunch at China (Seven Dragons?) on Dec 27th and were told we could not use the card because it was blocked out. We went to Guest Services and they told us the cards were blocked out for the entire week. So, instead of just giving up two days of use, we lost the entire week, which had been figured into our decision to purchase. Needless to say, when the DDE comes up for renewal we will NOT be renewing. Note, Disney is still promoting the card with just select balck out DATES, not WEEKS...so buyer beware....!

We were there the same week arriving on 12/26 and leaving the morning of 12/31. We used the DDE frequently during the week, and had no problems at all. We got our 20% off without question at California Grill, Jiko, Flying Fish Cafe and a couple other places. We also got 20% off on drinks in the AKL's cocktail lounge. The card paid for itself in just those few days.

Did you try to use the card, or just take Guest Services word for it?

NYE and New Year's Day were the only days on our trip that we couldn't use the card. We saved a lot with it! We are certainly looking forward to using the DDE discounts on our March trip as well, with NO blackout days on this trip, and we will get another 10 days to use it in December. We think the DDE is a GREAT discount for meals, and makes a lot more sense to us than the DDP.

We are at BWV right now, and we have saved more than the cost of the card already since Saturday night when we arrived. We do not generally eat at the CS restaurants... so the dining plan would not be best for us. The DDE plan works well. There are a couple of restrictions to DDE such as Japan's Teppanyaki dining... or the Fantasmic package at the Brown Derby. However, if you just order the regular items at Brown Derby... then the discount does apply.

So far we have eaten at:

Sat: Flying Fish
Sun: England Rose and Crown, Japan Teppanyaki
Mon: Brown Derby
Tue: Libery Tree... and heading out now to Jiko's for valentines dinner.

We have 2 TS reservations for almost every day for the rest of the week. For us... DDE is better than the Disney Dining Plan.

/Jim

And even though I forgot it was a blackout date, Captain Jacks at DTD gave us the discount on NYE! Didn't think about it until someone mentioned the blackout dates after our return!
