I have a question regarding The Disney Dining Experience for annual passholders. I am trying to figure out what the catch is. It costs $65.00 and basically I get 20% off all of my meals when i am there from 6/21-6/28. I even read that this includes alcohol. Can all of this really be true? Because if it is I can't see the downside of buying this.

P.S. I have already checked the list of restaurants and seems to include all the places I plan on eating.

we used it this April and we were a party of 6 and included our alcohol too......we saved alot on our week trip ......our five days in December and our eleven days last May......we were at All Star Movies last May and also in December and Port Orleans French Quarter this last trip and it included all food at those resorts as well.......its a good deal

Thanks for the input. The way I figure is if I plan on spending over $325.00 over the next year on Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner including alcohol then it would be worth while??? Correct?

No, there's no catch that I've discovered yet and I've used my DDE card for our last 2 visits, Last year there were 8 in our party for a duration of 3 weeks. With the saving that I enjoyed, someone try to tell me it isn't worth investing in this great little card.:cool1:

With 8 of us returning on 2nd July (and I know I am unable to use it on the 4th July :sad1: ) for a further 3 weeks, I am expecting the postman to deliver my card any day now.:goodvibes

yes it pays for it's self in no time at all. No catch but to remind them you have it.

The only "catch" is that you can't use it at CS except at the value resorts, POFQ, and Animal Kingdom.

This is a great value. I'd rather have an annual pass and DDE card and the flexibility to stay offsite than "free" dining. The DDE really pays off quickly like you pointed out. :goodvibes

We're leaning towards AP's and the DDE as well, since we live so close and can visit often. Does anyone know if you can use it for the FDP? I'm assuming that you can't use it for holiday events like the CP package, but if it's not Christmas day can you? Just trying to get the specifics, we usually visit early Dec. for dd's birthday, and always do the FDP when we visit as well.

We just got back Friday from WDW and used the DDE card while we were there. Like you said, the restaurants that take the card are the ones that we go to. The card paid for itself in no time. In fact, we went to CRT, a pre-paid meal, and they gave us the 20% discount on a Disney gift card at the end of the meal. Our waitress told us that the DDE card is the best thing that Disney offers.

You can't use the DDE for the Fantasmic & Candlelight packages because it can't be combined with another discount - I don't see how the FDP is a discount but Disney does :)

We used our DDE the last 2 summers for our FDP. So unless they changed it within the last year (which is always possible) then yes you can!!!!

No catch, we used it on our last trip, and we loved it. We got to eat whatever we wanted, and it paid for itself in no time plus some savings for us!

When evaluating the ROI of the DDE card, one has to take into account the ticket element (ergo, do you really need an annual pass?) as well as your dining preferences.

As example, I'm a DVC member who is not a Florida resident. I'm taking an extended family party of five (three adults, two kids) down to WDW next February for six days, and that is the only trip we will be making there that year.

The cost of a 6 day park hopper for me will run about $246. A basic annual pass (with my DVC discount) is $334, and to get a DDE card, I need to buy it. The DDE card is $65.

So, my total "additional" investment for my trip to get access to the DDE discount would be $153 (the $88 difference between the 6 day park hopper and an annual pass, plus the $65 cost of the DDE card). To get a positive return on that $153 investment, I'd need to get at least that much (preferably more) in dining savings over our six day visit.

Given the 20% DDE discount, in order to make my investment back my party would need to spend at least $756 on seated meals over our six day visit.

Now many here might say "with five people, that's easy." But not so fast: I know from our prior trips that because we are staying in a DVC villa with a full kitchen, we will likely eat almost all every breakfast, several lunches and at least one dinner in the villa (using groceries we willl have delivered by an outside party upon our arrival). As a consequence, getting to over $750 in seated dining expenses may be a stretch, and even if we go beyond that, the DDE savings would likely be minimal (e.g., is the extra effort involved in buying an annual pass - which I would have to go pick up at WDW on arrival -- worth saving $50-$60?)

Bottom line - DDE works well for many....

...but not for everyone.

As DVC members, we buy an annual pass every other year and we get two sometimes get 3 trips out of each pass. (we are in Ohio so not very close) We go about 14 days over the duration of 2 years so the pass pays for itself (and we get $100 off :) )

As well we have also bought a DDE card. We have saved a lot of money.

We have even just gone to the Wilderness Lodge to sit and have a glass of wine and still got our 20% off so its been great for us. Some trips its just myself and my hubby, other times its my two boys also with us.

I think its a good deal myself.

Esmerelda :)

Ours paid for itself after one night at California Grill (we had some killer bottles of wine!)

Uh oh - I feel another Fantasmic DP/DDE card debate coming on.

This was discussed in numerous threads, as I remember, last year. The conclusion in short was that officially the DDE card is not available for use with the FDP but, quite often it seemed, some servers didn't concern themselves with this rule and were quite happy to give the discount. As Marivaid said, the FDP is not discounted so it is rather a puzzle why this card limitation exists. Anyway the bottom line is that it is worth presenting the DDE card and you might just get lucky.:thumbsup2

I'm planning to order the DDE card for my September/October trip but I don't have my AP yet. Can I order my AP and use the voucher number to order the DDE card? Will Disney give me the AP voucher # over the phone so that I can call the DDE office right after. And how much time should I allow myself to get the card - I think I remember reading 6 weeks?

TIA :)
