Disney Dining EXPERIENCE question

Although I saved with the DDE, I think that the discounts available thru my AP and DVC card would have saved me more if you factor in the $60.

Additionally, I found myself eating more table service than I would normally (without DDE) so it may have actually cost me more.

We often do two TS meals a day and rarely do CS otherwise so the DDE or using existing discounts is often a better deal for us. Often our best outcome is to use the DVC discounts and AP discounts (actually FL seasonal pass) and not pay for the DDE. But for larger groups, longer trips, much ETOH, etc the DDE can be a much better deal in some cases.

Of note, I almost didn't catch this, the DDE card does not work at Wolfgang Pucks. I was very much interested in trying out this restaurant. Had the reservations and the whole trip planned when I realized the DDE card does not apply here. I'm glad I caught it so I wouldn't have this sudden, "oh man".

Just one person but, I really wish this whole tipping culture/game was different. Ok, let the flames begin.

It would fit the pattern to not discount Mara. And I'm surprised AP still has its discount, I'd have thought that would have gone away when the turf club opened.

GENERALLY CS restaurants are not included in the DDE. Non Disney restaurant may or may not choose to participate. Some do not, some do, but with reduced discounts (I ate at Bongo's which doesn't appear on the list, and asked if they took it, they gave me a 10% discount). At locations where there is not a table service location that takes the DDE, counter service is often discounted - so the CS restaurants in AK are discounted because the Landry's restaurants (Rainforest Cafe and Yak and Yeti) do not take the discount. The CS restaurants at the Values take it because there is not sit down option.

The new DDE plan will give you the 20% off the bill but than a 20% tip is added.

It's 18%, not 20% that is added. That is actually less than what I tipped previously because I DID do the 20% discount as my tip calculation. Made it SO easy to pay the bill.

We've had the DDE card for years and we love it. We also eat dinner every night at a high end restaurant so it is definitely worth it for us. And for the trip with my husband's family last December, we used it for 12 people rather than 10 (only one of te 12 was a child.) I never asked for that but the bill always reflected 20% off for everyone, not just 10 of us.

I chose to eat at Teppan Edo on Easter Sunday, since that restaurant does not accept the DDE anyway. We knew would eat there during our trip, so it made sense to schedule it on a day that the DDE was not valid. We were able to use our card on all the other days, just not on Easter. If there is a restaurant that you plan to eat at that does not take the DDE, perhaps you could schedule it on Thanksgiving. You could then use your discount on every other day of your trip at restaurants that do take the DDE.

When we purchased our DDE card last week, Guest Relations gave us a sheet of all the participating restaurants that we could use the card at. I just checked the sheet and the only listings for AKL are Jiko, Boma and Victoria Falls.

Of course, this is for AP holders not FL residents. I don't think that price decreased.

When we were there in April, there was no DVC discount at the Mara. DDE not accepted there either.
