Does anyone know how this works or how we can get one? I wasn't sure if it was just for AP holders or Florida residents(we are neither)?
We're going to be visiting with some folks who are moving down to FL right before our trip, but I don't think they'll have lived there long enough by the time of our trip to have proof of residence and they might leave a few days before we do and were planning on leaving the card with us. When we present the DDE card - will they require that person's ID to prove residence?

Here's the scoop. :thumbsup2

I am a AP holder and have a DDE card. The last time I was in WDW (Oct 2006) I must have used the card 10 times and was not asked for ID once. I don't know if is different for people who get thier passes by being a Florida resident.

We usually aren't asked for ID when we use it, does happen occasionally though, but we do have to give proof when we order the card.

the only place we were asked for id was California Grill- but then again Dh and I racked up a #350 bill so I guess over a certain price point perhaps?

We are asked for a picture ID at least once every trip. (Our last trip--last month--we were asked to show a picture ID at the food court at Pop on 3 difference visits.)

For the OP, the last time I gave my daughter my card to use at the resort food court (Pop or All Star) they asked her for ID and of course it didn't match. I was at the table with the babies, so had to get up and hand the card to the CM myself before she would honor it. It was our first year using it and didn't realize how particular they would be. Good luck!

Yes..the DDE card is for FL residents and AP holders only. You do need ID when you use it to prove it is yours.

I was never asked for ID but I did mostly pay with a credit card as I assume most do when dining at a TS with that large of a bill...or with your room key...and all of these would have a name match I am sure. I wouldn't chance it.

THe card holders name is on the DDE card. If it does not match the room key, credit card, the CM will not take it. In fact, when I was a POP and used my DDE in the food court, the CM did ask for ID. I had my room key, but that was it. She told me that they are supposed to ask for a photo ID since someone could have picked up the DDE card as well as your room key someplace. Ah, I don't usually head to the food court with my drivers license or passport on me!!!
I wouldn't take the chance and try to use it. It could be embarrassing for you.

I love the DDE card!! I am an annual pass holder and I purchased the DDE card in April. We just got back in May 24-30 and saved $90 on our dining and adult drinks. Our card will expire next April 2008 and we are going on 4 more trips before then so we will save a lot!!! We have a total of 5 in our group. I highly recommend it!!

We love the DDE. We have used it on 2 trips so far and will be able to use it again in August. It has saved us at least $200 ($265 less the initial $65 investment).

Generally if I pay with cash I am asked for an ID. My credit card of course has my name on it that matches the DDE card.

You can't use someone else's discount card. I have a DDE card and even my HUSBAND cannot use it with his id and credit card. Yes, they check very carefully and I've been told more than once that a manager has to approve the discount. If I recall correctly, discussing ways to cheat Disney is not allowed on these boards.

Just got back recently. Used the DDE card many times.

Right after dinner, I'd let the waiter know about the DDE. He'd take the card, bring it somewhere and return with the bill and the card. The discount was already reflected. Then I'd either give him my credit card, or pay with cash. I was never asked for ID, even when paying with cash, because by the time I paid, the discount had already been processed.

It was a great investment. We had a party of 8 and the card saved us hundreds of dollars over the week. It was actually almost worth getting the AP and DDE just for the meals discounts, let alone the AP discount on the room.

Saved over $600 with family of 10 in 5 days in May.

This is the first time I've heard about this card. Can someone tell me since the discount is good for a party up to 10, I am going with my parents and lets say we have two different bills, can they put the discount on both bills or can you only have one bill and have to figure out how much everyone owes you?

Sorry another question...

This card is good for up to one year? Does that start the first time you use it or when you purchase it?

Is the cost of renewing the card cheaper than the inital cost?

They really are more strict on DDE discounts than they use to be. For whatever reason a manager has to actually approve the transaction.
They very well could ask for ID. And the membership card is for FL and AP holders.
We are rarely asked for ID, but have been occasionally asked for a picture ID. :confused3
More often than not, we pay by debit card. And the name matches between the debit card and DDE card. But we still have been occasionally asked for the photo ID too.
The DDE membership is good from the day of purchase, not activation.
The renewals I think cost the same as buying a new membership. And it seems to raise every year too, and/or have limitations. Separate checks use to be common. Now they refuse to do them. (Just as an FYI.) And the DDE use to be good on all days. Now major holidays it is of no use.

vfinder:
The DDE is good for one check, up to 10 folks. So if there are two checks, the DDE is good for only one. That said--when we went awhile ago and had a similar situation, on OCCASION the server would just go ahead back to the register, combine the two bills, and we got the DDE discount. Happened a couple of times. But usually not--
And depending on what day of the month you order the card, you may actually get almost 13 months use out of it before the expiration date.
