Disney Deal for Active Military!

Sherry-I sure will post what I learn. I just got ANOTHER reply from WDW that they would be getting back to me soon. This is the second one so perhaps they did not know and will have to call me to answer it, or forward it elsewhere. ??

Hi,

My boyfriend is a reservist, not activated for Operation Iraqi Freedom, but still a reservist doing his job one weekend a month, etc. I called Disney yesterday when I saw the Armed Forces Salute discount and re-booked our trip for August (cancelled the "package" with tickets and ASSp and booked room at POR and will get our hopper tix at the gate). I told the reservationist he is a reservist and she said all we need is his military ID when we check in the hotel and at the gate of the park where we get his complimentary park hopper pass and my $99 pass. No word on having to be activated or required to show military orders.

In reality, all that are active and retired members of the military should be granted the discount. They are all deserving and much-appreciated citizens!

I'm sure that Disney will get a ton of questions around this and arguments, so I don't see a problem wiht active (but not activated) military not being granted this discount.

I would double check this. The info on Disney read that a reservist or National Guard must show a copy of activation orders.

I just read it all last night. My son is with the 101st, I was printing off and e-mailing it to him and his friends so that when they get stateside they can use some of their well earned leave.

Sorry for any confusion caused with my "overseas" statement.

Whew! I was with AFR on this one -- there's a whole bunch of Reservists who are doing the job of our security forces on base, because all the security forces got sent overseas! I should hope these reservists were included!

I'm going to be doing a price comparasion for October between SoG and this offer's rates soon -- probably Monday -- so I'll let y'all know how it goes!

Hi - My DH's coworker and I just got off the phone with Disney. I called first and was given the following information about reservists. As long as the reservist has papers that he or she was on active duty for even one day during the appropriate time period the individual is eligible for the discount. Apparently when a reservist goes to summer camp he/she receives papers for active duty between date 1 and date 2. I asked if this would work and was told yes. Just to verify the accuracy of my CM's info, my DH's coworker called about 10 minutes after I got of the phone and was told the exact same thing by another CM. Both CM's located the rule in the info they were given and read from the materials that Disney gave them to determine eligibiity. Both CM's said that active reservists are eligible as long as they have active duty orders. So, I hope that both of these individual's knw what they are talking about because he just booked 2 rooms at AS Sports for a little over $700. If anyone receives any different info please let me know. Do you think that he should try to get something in writing from Disney so that there are not any problems when he gets there? Thanks in advance for all of your help. Sherry

I was told that my son would have to provide a copy of his active duty orders showing he was activated between September 1, 2002 and December 19, 2003 (the end of the promotion).

The CM read this to me from her forms....so please confirm this before you plan your entire trip around a lot of different stories that you're hearing.

Prior to September 1st, he was activated in July of 2002 for his 2 weeks in Korea. Technically, that activation in July would not count toward this promotion - it HAD to take place after September 1 of 2002. That's why you will have to provide a copy of the activation orders.

Not trying to burst anyone's balloon - just don't want you to have a major MESS at check-in.

Okay, let me get this straight- I assumed that since my DH is an "active National Guardsman" meaning, he serves one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer and has NOT been called up for duty, that we were not qualified for the $99 pass. But now there is a chance I can get that when we go in October? My DH isn't going to go with me in Oct. but I have my card as his dependent. Hmmmm....Thanks for any clarification! These boards are the BEST.

Both CM's that DH's co-worker & I talked to said all you need are active duty orders for even one day between 09/01/02 and 12/19/03. If he has orders for a summer camp, I would think he is eligible. I recomend that you call Disney yourself to confirm. I don't want to mess up anyone's vacation. DH's coworker went ahead and booked based upon what CM told him. Sherry

Just called today about AS Sports resort pricing for July. 5 nights the second week of July is $333 total. That includes taxes. Prices were a little more for rooms closer to pool, transportation, food courts, etc. Hope this helps!

I am still waiting for an "official" reply from WDW. They have e-mailed me 3 times that they will be in touch with me. A normal reply usually takes no more than 2 days. This has been a week!
Will post when/if I learn anything. Too many people are being told different things by CM's.

I wish I was at least told SOMETHING by the SoG CM's when I was there last week. When DH and I got our Stars and Stripes passes, we were actually overcharged... We were given 3 days instead of 2 like we asked (this is on another thread, but I just wanted to lament here real quick:p ). When we went to complain about them on May 12 when the promotion began, they did not tell us anything about the promotion. And they told us the tickets we bought were nonrefundable, so basically we got screwed. Still trying to get through to the SoG office... it's always busy when I have time to call. Good luck to everyone else! We are considering going again for Labor Day.

Trinity-Try the fax number for SOG. I have done this twice and one time they called me back in 15 minutes, the next time was 2 days. BUT they did call me and the person who was appropriate for the question was on the phone!:D Fax your receipts and show them how long you stayed and explain what happened. Good luck! We will be at CR in a little over a week from today!!
Trying to plan November trip now:p ! Just waiting to hear from WDW(not SOG) for eligibility for that reservation.

i'm not sure if this is timely or not...guardsmen and reservists "ARE" eligible for this promotion. I called WDW diectly and gave them countless scenarios in which reservists or gurardsmen can qualify. The bottom line is this...if you performed some form of active duty...(Annual Tour included) you are authorized. One caveat though...if you did 3 or 4 days of active duty it may not look as nice as 3 or 4 months...But the 2 week stint that most reservists and guardsmen perform should qualify you...Any active duty order that shows you did an "extended" period of active duty in support of the numerous conflicts will get you in...make sure you bring it with you to the ticket window...AN ABSOLUTE MUST!!! LES'S will not cut it...having said that I am sure it will depend on the CM you encounter at the ticket office...I got a name when I talked to guest services on the phone and she assured me that they are not trying to exclude anyone...just want to give everyone who "qualifies" a chance...A good friend of mine went in April...he is a reservist and did have an active duty order for 7 days and he got in...it may be arbitrary, i don't know... i am going in August with full intention of receiving the deal. I guess i am lucky i have been activated so it's no-brainer...hope this helps...
