Disney Day of Service

I'm trying to figure this out, too, but can't find ANY info on it. For those of you that have the vouchers, does it say anything in regards to how much "credit" you get when upgrading?

You probably get the value or credit of a one day ticket.

According to the FAQ on the Give a Day Get a Disney Day site

May I upgrade my free one day ticket to an Annual Pass or multi-day ticket?

Yes, you may upgrade the free ticket to another ticket type of greater value within the applicable upgrade window. However, you are responsible for the incremental cost and the new ticket may only be used by you. No changes or refunds will be given. The value of the free ticket may not be used to combine or upgrade with a separate single or multi-day ticket.

May I use the value of the free one-day ticket toward the renewal of my Annual Pass or Passport?

Yes, the value of the free ticket may be used to renew your Annual Pass or Passport within the applicable renewal window. You are responsible for any additional costs owed and no change or refunds will be given.

Those of you having such a hard time finding anything, why not just do Project Linus? There are plenty of them that will accept mail in donations. This may be your easiest option.

Our troop all got their vouchers, and we are good to go!

Is that what you did how much do you give? The one I see for my area doesn't say anything about donations on the volunteer site but if you go to project linus site it does. I really wanted to do something we all could do but there are not a lot my DS would qualify for at 9. Most seem to be 14 and up.

We did ours today too! I took DS7 to Dollar Tree on Friday and found GREAT stuff for about $35 (including a few things for us and he contributed $7 so he helped pick stuff out.) Then yesterday we hit the clearance racks at Kohls and stuffed TWO bags of infant and toddler clothes - mostly shirts and PJs - for under $70! I was comfortable with spending about $100 altogether and I was very pleased with what we got. I also put in a few things DD1 outgrew before wearing them.

When we drove down to Wall Township today to drop it off, the kids and I got a bit lost (note to self: ALWAYS call the place you are going if possible; Google Map bites!!) I'm pretty wiped because altogether I drove 90 miles to get to someplace 60 miles away...but at least coming home went better.

They said I should get my vouchers sent out this week! We will do a day at MK on our already-planned August trip to those "other" parks. ;o)

Rachel in NJ

This is where we were! We were the ones coming down to get the stuff and moving it into the big building next door! We filled one whole room full of toys/clothes/personal items...another half a room full of paper products/water and yet another room full of cleaning supplies. It was overwhelming how much stuff was dropped off. There were other duties that too as well...painting, fixing/hanging blinds, putting together shelving and moving furniture, etc. It was a good day and my whole family left feeling good that we were able to help!

This is what our troop did. All the familes made 2 blankets each and I dropped them off at the cooridinators home.
We made 80 blankets at a cost of $4.25 each blanket. Ages 6 and up could do this!

it's not working? I keep inputting my location, and it keeps going to a generic disney page......:confused3

I can't seem to find blanket materials this inexpensively.

My parents completed their day of service yesterday in Wall, NJ. They said it was very will run and were told that they will get their e-mail for the free Disney day in 2 weeks or so.

We got our Project Linus blankets made over the weekend and DH is delivering them as we speak! We had a lot of fun making the blankets. The coordinator said they are not taking any new sign-ups as they've had well over 2,000 responses for this time period but a new time period opens up after March, 2010 and there will be additional opportunities available then.

I'd never heard of Project Linus before but have contacted my local chapter (which is not participating in GAD) to find out about their next Blanket Day. I'm hoping my girls (13, 11, 9) can participate too. If not, we'll just make blankets at home throughout the year and drop them off.

So I keep checking for my area and some things have popped up recently. The girl scouts is looking for Summer camp volunteers to work the entire Summer for 8 hours a day, or even for an entire week at their school vacation break camps. Seems like A LOT of work for one free day at Disney!

We just completed our volunteer hours here in Massachusetts at a MLK day event. It was very well run, but there were so many folks there, some of the activities finished up after less than an hour. We made fleece tied blankets for children, created welcome baskets for children entering homeless shelters, and put together items for the troops. We donated a myriad of items requested. It really didn't feel like we did enough.

DH drove into Boston yesterday to set up the space for a MLK event being held this morning. We are regular volunteers in organizations throughout our community, so I guess we give of ourselves regularly, but I wish I felt like I had given enough to justify our tickets.

yeah, I've noticed the 'expectations' vary a lot.

One of the assignments in our area is to be a Girl Scout Troop Leader then another one (not Girl Scouts) is to sort books for 1.5 hours or for MADD to make some ribbons.

I think the Girl Scouts were over-reaching but maybe they'll get someone who was going to do it anyway...

Has anyone reported back on the Special Fastpasses yet? I'd love to know more info on these...thx

Yes, what type and size of blanket were you able to make at a cost of only $4.25 each? I thought it was your troop that did the no sew fleece blankets. If so, you must have found a killer deal on fabric. :thumbsup2

The best price I've been able to find locally on printed fleece is $5.99 a yard, $7.79 for anti-pill, $10.49 for licensed; which is what I think would be most fun for the Disney/Project Linus thing.

How are you all pulling up the Project Linus thing? I can't seem to find it for my area, the West side of Michigan.

I found a local Project Linus chapter, but I'm sure there won't be participating chapters near-by for everyone.

Some folks are going through PL chapters that accept blankets by mail. Of course you'll have additional shipping costs, but it's certainly a worthwhile charity.

Check out the info on this link:

Looks like they accept all types of blankets, mailing them is OK, and they just require one per volunteer.

FWIW,
Our local chapter also just required one blanket per volunteer, although we did more than that by choice. (they don't accept blankets by mail though)
I have to say I was surprised that some chapters are requiring as many as 6 blankets per volunteer. I think that's a lot!

Joannes had ton on clearence. Not with the regular fleece, but towards the back of the fabric dept. I asked at customer service. It was $3.50 a yard and all sorts of patterns for kids. I did get an extra 15% off for being a teacher. So 80 blankets, $340, or $4.25 each.
I pretty much wiped out one Joannes of fleece, but I am sure the others have this as well. Of course with everyone trying to get in on this it's probably going fast!

we live in the metro St. Louis area, and are finishing our Linus blankets this weekend.

Our contact was very specific about the blankets we make (specific size, fringed on 2 long sides only, etc) and we each have to make 2 blankets.

I found the fleece 40percent off at JoAnns last week. After buying some nice scissors as well it cost around $100.

Since the only trip we take might be in the summer this year, I'm thinking we should use the tickets for the fast-pass option as well since the parks will be crowded.

OK -- This is driving me nuts! First of all I worked for 3 days on Jan 1-3 trying to register. I finally got it to go through. I signed up dh, ds, and I to sort food for a local food bank. I chose my date and it all seemed to go through. I just got an e-mail about a week ago from Disney telling me I haven't yet signed up for anything. There is no record of our event! So now I am trying to sign up again. When I find something interesting, I click "show details" and it takes me back to the home page every time. It has been doing this for days! What do I do? Has it done this for anyone else?

You should receive an email from the organization that you volunteered for. If you didn't, maybe it was full already. Did you check the boxes when you signed up for the task? I have 5 people on my list and signed up 2 for 1 task and 2 for another task. Try going to manage my acct on the disney sight and see if they have any suggestions. Good Luck!
