Disney Day of Service

Has anyone ever made blankets for Project Linus before? I have a question. I have a lot of fleece and it is red, orange and yellow. I was thinking they weren't great colors for kids but I have a yudu screen printer so I thought that I would screen print our local sports teams logo on them. The colors are right, I just wasn't sure if I would be allowed to do this. It would definately make the blankets a little more fun and I would make them for teens and then go buy some fabric to make a few baby blankets - any thoughts?

I signed me and my family up for the Project Yellow Ribbon. I'm pretty plugged in to my childrens school so I am looking to get them involved as well. This has turned out perfect! We are taking a cruise out of Tampa in July and with these tickets we'll go a day earlier and go to Disneyworld along the way. Plus - my kids get to help out firsthand with sending items overseas to our troops!

do you have to make the blankets or can we buy one??? i can't even sew a button on a shirt lol no less make a blanket

Are you talking about Project Linus specifically?
From their National website:

"When we say “handmade” or “homemade” we mean something that is not commercially manufactured or purchased. Of course, home sewing machines, knitting machines, etc. are fine. It has always been the mission of Project Linus to donate only handmade blankets. We receive thousands of letters and thank you notes every year from children. Over and over they express how touched they are that a stranger would take the time to make something for them. They really know the difference. Purchased blankets are nice, but handmade blankets are from the heart. If you do not have the time or ability to hand craft a blanket, perhaps you would consider a monetary donation."

They do have directions for no sew fleece blankets on their website. I'm sure you could make them, even if you're not crafty. We did something similar as an activity/gift for one of DD's sleepover parties, and most of the girls (11 & 12 yr olds) had their blankets completed before they left in the morning, and that was with little, if any, help from me.

We also donate to Project Night Night quite often and they do accept both purchased and handmade blankets (as long as they are new and smoke free). I don't know if they're participating in the Disney volunteer program though. I haven't seen any mention of them, so maybe not.

I actually just received a response and they can be mailed to her. That works best for me since I am on the other side of the state. Do you know how many blankets? I didn't see that anywhere. :confused3 I plan on do these this week, we have a trip coming up in February.

I think how many blankets you need to donate to qualify for the free pass is up to each local Project Linus coordinator. Some are just asking for 1 per person, some are asking for 2 per person. Someone posted that their PL contact specified that they needed to do 4 per person if they were smaller baby blankets.

Here's a couple tips...

1) search differently
Put in your town and state instead of your zip code or visa versa

2) Look through the organizations that didn't specify dates:
Search by zip as you did before.... THEN scrolling all the way to the bottom of the page. Below the list of volunteer opportunities there's a blue banner with a link for more opportunities.

It says:
"Not finding enough opportunities? Try broadening your search. Select ALL interest areas.

Click here for information for HandsOn Network partner organizations you can contact that will have additional qualifying opportunities"

I clicked and I found many more of the organizations in our town.

3) Check back

They will also be posting more opportunities. I looks like only the ones in the next 60 days are posted on the main list right now.

I signed up to take down lights at the Columbus zoo; I haven't heard back yet, but it was the weekend. I hope they call today, i'm going to WDW for the princess half in March and buying one less ticket would realy help me out!

DS20 is signed up to make 2 fleece blankets for Project Linus. He will be able to do this before heading back to college. Our instructions were that we needed to include a picture of each person in the family working on one of the blankets and it could be a group photo if the whole family is doing the same thing.
DD15, DH and I decided we would rather collect clothes and small appliances for one of the churches thift sale. We will be bringing in what we can collect from our family and neighbors as well as picking up from a list and packing them.
We are excited to be doing this for our trip and even my sister who will not be going this year is going to do it with her DS7 and donate the tickets!

I sent in an interest for Project Linus OR to make dog beds for shelter dogs!!!! I'd LOVE to do the second one if it's not too costly or far away... it's about 90 miles from me but I"m assuming/hoping it's something I can do from home.

I did not see any info about how many blankets. I am guessing one or two per person depending on size/kind.

We are in northern NH so I will probably end up mailing them too.

I got my email from Project Linus and it is one blanket per person... and at least showing that each person contributed in making the blanket. She gave me dates to chose from on when to drop them off...

Does anybody know when the ticket you get expires though?

We have to each make 2 blankets, seems fairly easy looking at the pattern.

I'm going to ask what is probaly an already answered question, but...
Where do you go to turn in the voucher and get the ticket/fastpass?:confused3 If I already have a PH ticket can we use a voucher in 2 different parks on the same day to get the fastpasses?:confused3

TIA

The way I'm understanding the program is that the ticket has to be used on the day the voucher is turned in. The program expires on December 15th. HTH

Ok so the voucher has to be used by Dec 15 then? Thanks so much!!!! :)

i signed up for my family of 4 adults to work at a jewish adult care center they called me back today and the lady told me she didn't feel my family would be right for the center! no we are not jewish and were not asked if we were i felt really bad maybe we can just donate blood or something:confused3

Project Linus people..... what pattern are you following? Reading through these they all sound pretty complicated. I'm NOT good at sewing. And I want my 6 year old niece to help but not sure how she can if we have to do an afghan type or quilt?

we signed up to do project linus. We each complete 2 blankets and I delivered them today. She said she will validate us tomarrow with disney.:cool1: When she email us back after we expressed intrest she also email us a pattern and directions. it was easy enough my kids really were able to do most of it themselves.

How does the special fast pass work? Is it a one fast pass for each ride, or is it a day long fast pass?

Project Linus is so wonderful!! My husband was the state captain for the Patriot Guard Riders of GA and we are currently ride captains. We have had the pleasure of working with Project Linus on many occassions and they always come through for the children. The goal of Project Linus is to provide a blanket for each child of a KIA. The children and the parent appreciate that someone not even close to their family cares so much about the feelings of the children. Thank you for making the blankets! They will mean so much!!

My group is specific about what they want but luckily it is the fleece blanket. We just need to buy the correct size of fleece in our case 48" x 60". It is super easy because you do NOT need to sew the fleece. It does not unravel like other types of material. We then need to cut fringe on the two long sides measuring one inch wide by 4 inches long. Just a little time consuming to cut the fringe perfectly.

We are also doing Project Linus (I love the name :)) and are required to do 2 non sew double panel fleece blankets for each person. I was lucky enough to get the 1/2 price kits at JoAnns yesterday. I can hardly wait for them to arrive so we can get started!

I signed my family up to work at a local food bank for a 2 hour shift. The available dates didn't start until March.
