Disney Day of Service

Did all of the girls parents have to sign them up individually? or were you able to sign up as a groop? I haven't been able to find where to sign up as a troop, it just say's that I must be the parent or legal guardian to sign up children 6 - 17 years old.

I just emailed the coordinator for the Project Linus organization here in Atlanta and she said that she is also the National Coordinator to get a blanket to every child who has lost a parent or sibling in the war and would love it if anyone wants to sign up for this project under her. She knows that there are some other chapters of the Project Linus that have signed up for the Day of Service but she is not sure where they are. If you really want to do this service but can't find it in your area you can put in 30518 as the zip code to search. This is located in Acworth, Georgia and you can mail the blankets to her.

This is a great project to do with kids. I have a 12 year old, 8 year old and 7 year old and had a hard time finding a project that we could do all together due to the age restrictions. This is a great project that we can do all together. I plan on letting my children pick out their own fleece pattern that suites their personality. I know the Linus project needs blankets for kids of all ages so this is perfect for my childrens ages.

has anyone from New jersey been able to sign up???

I have been trying all AM, and it keeps saying invalid state!

Seriously, I can sign up using any state abbrevation BUT NJ!! What the heck?!?!

I am having the same problem with the state of Maine. It keeps saying invalid state. I cant even figure out how to get help with it.

From an email the coordinator send me

5. If any groups want to make blankets as a service activity (girl scouts, boy scouts, etc.), that would be great, but blankets will not qualify for Disney Passes.

Of course YMMV

and for those who mentioned mailing them in.. mine said all family members have to go when you hand them in.
 

Hi, Since your RENEWAL WINDOW begins a month before expiration (I believe) as long as you RENEW earlier than Dec.15th you should be able to use it toward your NEW AP. Joan
 
Also fyi.. like last years birthday promo kids have to bring their Birth Certificates when redeeming.
 
keep checking as I checked this AM and my husband was approved for it but myself and my daughter were not. We have to travel about an hour to get to any of them so kinda disappointed that we were not all accepted to the same one. Also the other opportunities are now full so I guess I should have signed up for a back up.

The people that just contacted groups that wasnt at the give a day get a day site will Disney honor them? If I talked to the woman in charge of the thing my husband was accepted to that filled before it got to myself and my daughter and had her ok us to come in and do ANYTHING would we be able to get the tickets since it is with a group that was on the site? Or was each group given x amount of tickets to hand out and since they are filled do not have the extras to spare.

Also it always says that DD has to be with a parent or guardian...Both myself and my husband are listed...Was there a box I missed in all the refreshing/reloading that needed checked to verify she is ours?

Does this mean vouchers can't be printed ahead of time once everything is completed? :confused3

I think it means that the vouchers you print must be taken to Will Call where they will redeem them for tickets to be used on that same day. HTH

Also, got my family (except the 3yo) signed up to help at a local theatre in March which is extra wonderful because my DS10 loves drama class and will be thrilled to see what goes on behind the scenes of a "real" theatre. :thumbsup2
 
Just wanted to pass along some information regarding the "financial savings" of GADGAD tickets. NOT trying to diminish the value of the volunteering portion of this promotion.:)
IF you need to purchase a package (for dining plan), then the actual $ savings will be very small. You CAN upgrade the tickets but you CANNOT use them in a package.
I ran the numbers 3 different ways. The BEST savings scenario for our family is $13.00 on the entire package and we would loose PH for one of those days.
Here are the general numbers for 2A2C, 7 nights, dining plan, 5 day PH tickets:

1. Hotel + dining + 5 day PH tickets = $3489
2. Hotel + dining + 4 day PH tickets + 1 GADGAD non-PH ticket= $3476
3. Hotel + dining + 1 day non-PH ticket + GADGAD upgraded ticket to 4 day PH= $ 3683
So financial, option #2 is the best by about $13 and we loose PH for a day.

Now obviously there are other benefits to the program like giving of our time, donating the tickets, or for some the Fast Pass option may be appealing. I was only sharing the financial side of my math to help others plan their budget. :)
 
When I try to sign up from the handsonnetwork site, it keeps coming back with a message saying "webservice returned error "error-in-use" . Anyone else having problems with this?

We already have a seven day package booked for October. I am signing up my family (myself, DH and DD) for an opportunity. While we do not need the tix, since we will each have a voucher, I am planning on each of us redeeming our vouchers on separate days of our vacation. It states that each person may redeem their voucher for fastpasses for their entire party (up to 5 people) so 3 of the 7 days of our trip we will each have the special fastpasses to save us very valuable time!

That is exactly what we are doing.
 
I just signed my mom and I up to do some painting inside a community center! It looks like it will take place Feb.21

In our area it just gave a choice of 7 different ones to pick from.

I agree, the Fastpass option can save a family tons of valuable time waiting in line. We are unable to take advantage of the Fastpasses option because my son has special needs and we need to use a GAC card to get him onto attractions. :)
 
My family is doing a blanket for the Project Linus Program. I am glad that program was on there because my daughter was given one of the Project Linus Blankets when she was in hosptial back in the spring and she loved it.
 
We also signed up for Project Linus. I have to drive 1.5 hours to deliver the blankets, but my best friend who just had twins lives 15 minutes from there. So, I will be delivering the blankets on my way to visit the new twins. My dd was so excited to make the blankets. She helped make all 3! I even got my dh in on the act by having him tie a fleece no-sew together.

Dd got a sewing machine for Christmas and this was a GREAT way to teach her how to use it. She made a beautiful patchwork quilt. I almost don't want to give it away. Since she is 6 years old, our chapter told us she can just make a card for a child. I asked her if she would like to keep her nice quilt. Do you know what she said? "No way! I want a little girl in the hospital to get this beautiful blanket and make her happy." I almost cried! Thank you Disney for letting us share this moment of giving. :)

Apparently they are aware of the problem for NJ and are working on it. I heard back from Project Linus and they told us about the problem and to keep trying as they are working on it. He also said that you have 72hrs to complete the registration once they contact you. I hope it gets resolved soon. :surfweb:

Now that a lot of us are doing fleece blankets we need to find a good deal on the fleece. I need to make 6 of them.
