Hi folks

We have been to disney a few times and thoroughly enjoy it. We like to try something new each time and after listening to the dis unplugged I am considering a disney cruise. I know very little about this and would welcome any info/advice from anyone that has been on a disney cruise before.

Is there a brochure/dvd that you can get?
I am not a big fan of boats, does it get very rough?

Any info about DCL would be brilliant

Thanks

sorry - forgot to ask. What is the best way to book a cruise?

Had 4 DCL cruises on my 5th next year, they are absolutely great for you, families and kids, great ships lots to do, Disney shows, fabulous kids clubs well run, good food all day, included, free fizzy drinks and free entertainment.

No brochure in the UK, but you can go to their website DISNEY CRUISE LINE, and all the trips are on there.

The WONDER tends to do 3/4 night cruises to Bahamas and Castaway cay, Disney's own private island, The MAGIC does two 7 night cruises Eastern Caribbean and western Caribbean every other week, starting on a Saturday. These also include a stop at Casterway cay.

The MAGIC in the summer months goes on special trips this summer it was the Med next summer west coast USA via Panama.

Generally as they have good stabilizers even if the sea is rough, you do not notice it, I went through the back end of a hurricane once (rare- they try to avoid them) and still was OK.

Really recommend you try one, and as there is so much to do try a 7 night one if you can afford it.

Booking you can book by Virgin holidays but I prefer booking through DREAMS UNLIMITED, a sponser of these boards and the DCL Dissboards, ask for Kelsie Johnson she understands us Brits very well, with thme you pay in dollars so good at this time, you can pay a bit at a time and they support you with enquiries.

I think A D UK covered most of it, also get a price direct from Disneycruiseline.com We have booked our 4th cruise for next Easter direct again, tried DU as well as other companies, direct was same price as any of the agents plus we get $25 onboard credit per cabin, the agents said I didn't:confused3.
I have done RCCL and got sea sick, never a problem with DCL they are both great ships.

i would definitely recommend a cruise with DCL.
We've been on two (a 3 day and then a 4 day)..
we loved both of them.

I was very unsure of what it would be like on the ship, since i have extremely serious motion sickness problems (due to a medical condition).

My daughter has them as well, though not as serious as mine (yet).

I was really really worried we'd have a problem.

But we didn't. Not at all.

and the cruise was great fun. I know there have been other posts on this board about the Disney cruises with lots of comments and advice. You might want to do a search to find them.

we booked both cruises directly with DCL - by phone, not online. I'm not a big fan of online bookings. I prefer speaking with a human being.

We just did our first Disney Cruise in Sept. Had a fantastic time and can't wait to book another one. My husband suffers from sea sickness, but never suffered from it on the cruise, the sea was very calm.
I booked direct with www.disneycruiseline.com and then transferred my booking over to Dreams Unlimited and received extra onboard credits, which came in handy.

I am the opposite, I dont book anything if I can't do it online.:rotfl2:
We go on Vegas/Disneyland trip next week would book Disney tour if I could but its phone only, I have been known to do a 20 mile round trip to avoid a phone call, Online or face to face for me. Our total phone call bill at home comes to between £1-£2/month :)

you could skype.....DH uses skype a lot for his business calls now...
he's reduced our monthly phone bill by thousands...

you're going next week?....i think i forgot to mention to you the fantasmic desert buffet on the balcony of the gallery....but it's probably too late to get a spot (they only have 20 seats i think)....i know you don't like to spend money, but it's so pleasant there....you sit out on the balcony and have a really nice view of fantasmic....and it's eat as much as you like of the deserts and i think there was an open bar as well (we don't drink so i didn't pay attention)....
it's expensive but really lovely.....since you won't make a long distance call, perhaps you could try calling when you get to anaheim....see if by chance they have a few spaces left....

No its not the money (only costs 2p/minute to USA for calls) I just dont like talking on phones(my Mum actually had a phobia of phones, I am not that bad:rotfl2: ) I prefer face to face. dont think we will have time for dessert buffet, evenings all booked up with halloween party and other things, I read about it but 1 slice of dessert is enough for me and we dont usually drink either.

oh that's not all that uncommon.....lots of people don't like to talk on the phone...
the internet certainly is a god send...

my mom doesn't like to call up for information and things like that.....
she would always ask me to do it for her (she still does in fact)..
i was so worried about that happening to my kids, i actually forced them to make calls as they were growing up (for information and things like that), so they wouldn't be afraid of calling....

i didn't eat the deserts either, but i enjoyed the view..and chatting with the other people on the balcony as we waited for fantasmic to start..

but if your evenings are already booked up, no big deal...

be sure to see the disneyland fireworks (when dreams come true? i can't remember what it's called)....although i like wishes better, it was really good too...and what tinkerbell does at the beginning was just amazing...to me anyway....

also there are some other 'musts'.....
--Indiana Jones - an absolute MUST - it's great
--California Screamin (in CA) - since you like coasters

in fantasyland i wouldn't say they're MUSTs, but these are nice (for the kind of ride they are) and they aren't at WDW -
--Alice
--Circus Train (inside fantasyland - not the big train that goes around DL)

if you're interested in any other info, let me know...

check out the DCL boards on here too
full of info
and read a few cruise trip reports
BEWARNED once you cruise you will just want to keep cruising

Thanks for all the replies.:thumbsup2
I think you have convinced me to give it a try!

Ann
