2nd year in a row no cruises out of NY! Sucks but living here I totally get it! Oh well. Leaving out of Port Canaveral Aug 2025! Very excited!
I agree with the dry dock schedules being an issue. I am also thinking that maybe sales were a down a little last time in NY. Maybe because the Dream is bigger and harder to fill in the northeast with school just beginning. I'm hoping a little time off will drive the desire up for the future and DCL will return to NY.I think the challenge has been with first the Dream and then the Fantasy undergoing dry docks following their time in Europe. I was not surprised to see NYC left off the schedule for Fall 2025 but it does make me feel uncertain if cruises out of NYC will ever be brought back in the future.
I could also be logistical reasons. Disney has really committed itself to Galveston and Fort Lauderdale, in addition to Port Canaveral which obviously will never go away.DCL is a small cruise line, after all is said an done, they will only have 8 ships compared to the 29 that Royal Caribbean has and the 27 that Carnival has both with more on the way. Maybe it is just the fact that they have better opportunities sailing elsewhere with their limited fleet.
Shouldn't the huge reductions in crime actually make sailings from New York more likely?I'm sure the crime issue in NYC had nothing to do with the decision.
I believe this right here is the reason. At this point with such a limited fleet the Florida ports are taking priority due to number of ships they are contracted to sail out of there. Disney's bread and butter is also those short Bahamas cruises. They make the most money per day per passenger off of those. Then with the Magic heading to the west coast it also makes it seem like for the near future there likely will not be any NYC cruises. I wonder how well the NYC cruises sold as well, like were they sell outs or not? That also likely was a factor.I could also be logistical reasons. My DD, family and friends have taken 3 cruises out of NYC in the last 3 years. Since they drove in and parked at the cruise port area (paid Disney for parking $25 a day, paid Carnival for parking $50 a day) they weren't impacted by any crime, other than Carnival charging double.Shouldn't the huge reductions in crime actually make sailings from New York more likely?
Best itinerary out of NYC!!! We were on that as well!! Remember the bumper sticker on the ship that first year?! They offered that itinerary again in 2017 and we booked it.I would love to see DCL sail out of NY in the summer, to either Bermuda or Bahamas/FL like they did before. We did the 8 night Bahamian in 2012, with a day in WDW, and loved it. I would do that again in a heartbeat!
